Chapter Text
Twilight Town still manages to amaze her with its dreamlike sunsets. Quiet and peaceful, only a few people here and there enjoying the last hours of the evening. She sits there on one of the many outdoor district tables outside of ‘Le Grand Bistrot’. She contemplates, as she stares at the moving tram leaving her sight.
‘Clack, clack’
“Here you go lassy, hot piping black coffee with one marshmallow, just the way you like it.”
Slowly, Wednesday tears her eyes away from the town activities, now facing to the approaching older anthropomorphic duck wearing a top hat. He sets her coffee on the table, sits on the other side and places his cane on his lap.
Scrooge Mcduck, explorer extrodinare, and an old family friend. He and her father used to adventure around the universe, discovering new places and finding treasures. Now both their families are two of the wealthiest among the stars.
Wednesday takes a hold of her coffee, breaths deeply of its contents and takes a gulp. She sets it back down as she lets the bitter-sweet liquid warm her up. Normally she would reject any sweet abomination, but recently she started to appreciate some sweetness in her life. Especially because of ‘her’.
“Thank you Uncle Scrooge, give Little Chef my compliments.”
“Haha!”, Scrooge chuckles as he lifts his top hat. A rat, ‘Little Chef’, is happily giving her a thumbs up. “He happily accepts them,” he fixes his hat back on his head,“ He’s taking a small break from the kitchens.”
“Now, tell me. Those creatures haven’t been much trouble on the way here, have they?”
Those creatures he speaks of, the heartless, have started appearing stronger as of recently. What used to be small and harmless clean up jobs, now became a serious issue for many worlds. Her Uncle Scrooge had placed a special request at the guild. Asking for her personally to protect his workers from any attacks while transporting goods to a few of his main restaurants. Le Grand Bistrot being the last establishments to receive the final transport.
Wednesday took another sip of her coffee before replying, “There were only two attacks, one at San Fransokyo and another before arriving here,” she gave a look at the distance, watching the last rays of the sun dim down before the night fully swallows the sky.
“Easily dealt with. Although, they have been getting stronger. Neo shadows, Soldiers, even a Metal Troll started to appear, luckily I had arrived in time to assist the so called ‘Big Hero 6’ on their struggle. For the most part they’re unharmed.”
Scrooge relaxed a bit, “That’s a relief, I’ll give them a call later,” he paused for a moment, “ so… any new leads on your pal Enid?”
She holds her gaze up to the night sky, admiring the shining stars,”None at all,” she spots a bright blue star, one that reminds her of Enid's own eyes. She glares at it, as if threatening it would make it say ‘howdy roomie’. She looks back down to her drink, sullen.
She lets go of her cup, then with an outstretched hand over the center of the table, a colorful long key-like blade magically appeared into her hand.
Startled passerby’s gawked at the iridescent colored scythe, with a wolf handle and keychain. They thought that it was a magic trick, few even clapped.
Wednesday ignored them and looked at the long colorful eyesore of a blade. The owner of this blade disappeared three months ago. Enid was scouting the northern quadrant of the galaxy where she was tasked to deal with a group of heartless. A few days later, her keyblade fell from the sky and landed close by where Wednesday was visiting her home planet. As if it was told to land there. Upon inspection, the only tall-tale sign of anything bad happening to Enid was the cracked handle.
She grips the handle tighter. “Her keyblade is the only means for me to find her. They react when they’re in close proximity to the owner, but…” , she gives it another long look and lets go, the blade floats up and disappears.
“I’ve been jumping from world to world, and still no sign of her, not even a trail…”
“Don’t give up…”, Wednesday taken aback, faces her uncle, Scrooge adds on with a sympathetic smile, “She’s out there, you just need to keep trying. I’ve made the mistake of giving up on my niece after many attempts searching for her.”
‘That’s right…’ Master Donald’s twin sister, Della. She disappeared after her attempt to go into space, never to be seen again after being caught in a cosmic storm. Uncle Scrooge even spent a huge portion of his own precious fortune, desperately trying to find her no matter the cost. In the end, Della returned with a ship compiled of poor material from the moon, finally reunited with her family.
Enid once said, after they officially became Keyblade masters, ‘You and I are a pack now’, with a sparkle in her eyes, ‘I’ll be there by your side till the very end…’ Wednesday couldn’t help but smirk, reminiscing that days celebration.
“Now, off you go. Little chef and I must head back in. And don’t worry lassy, she’ll pop up one way or another, you just wait,” Scrooge hops off his chair and while walking way, little chef lifts the hat waving goodbye.
Wednesday, now with a newfound determination, drinks the last of her coffee, gets up and starts heading to the train station. Normally she would head back to the guild with her glider, but she will take her time and recuperate her mana reserves. Instead, she’ll ride the Ghost Train back.
As she leisurely walked through Market Street, she pondered back to when Enid left for her mission.
They had just come back to the guild after a day's vacation from work. Enid was energized for a new adventure, now she’s gone.
Once arriving at the train station, she looks up at the clock tower. Enid and her have visited the tower a few times now. Twilight Town really makes up its name with its beautiful sunsets. She would take glances at Enid, and at the right angle, her eyes would sparkle even brighter.
She enter the train station, walks past the ‘now closed’ ticket booth and stands by one of the platforms. There’s still a few stragglers here waiting for the last train of the night , but that won’t be a problem. This train is magical and is only visible for world hoppers.
She summons her keyblade and with the sharp teeth of her blade, taps the floor with magic sparks. After waiting a few moments, she hears the Ghost train in the tunnel.
‘Click clack, click clack’
As the train approaches, it slows down with a final hiss. She always found this peculiar train awfully ridiculous, purple with a golden frame, and a blue cone hat on its top front.
The train was donated by Master Yen Sid and repurposed for anybody in the guild to use when they’re exhausted from a mission.
The train doors open and with a heavy sigh, Wednesday heads in.
