Chapter Text

Crunches of leaves and the sound of the heavy rain can be heard around the surroundings, a man adjusting his yellow hat before turning his back in a blur, he definitely saw something — A peculiar red and famished entity was behind the tree; observing the yellow man with an intense starvation. Hungry. An entity the man knows all too well.
<Collinlock16> Fuck off starving shit!
The man yelled from afar, the entity could only growl in response, the world glitching with unease.
“Collin…” it muttered under their growl.
The man only rolled his eyes before turning back and continuing his journey. He has been collecting new stocks of food for a while now alongside mining new ores for a new set of armor, after that one incident of a blue player literally stealing HALF of his hardworked items and a literal entity teleporting him into the literal void. That gave him a slight shiver.
Upon walking through another field of flat plane grass, something caught the corner of his eyes, while it was a bit far from him, it was decipherable; a tall black rectangle, jittering around the fields.

The man was surprised to say the least, he has seen the most cursed shit that happens in his world, not to mention the questionable amount of upside crosses and Herobrine shrines. Though, something about this one felt too… off. He wearily checked his files for any signs of a horror mod.
Scarily enough, there wasn't anything.
<Collinlock16> What the fuck?
He finally retorts out before looking back at the eerie figure.
Collin being the tired dipshit that he is, decided to ignore this. He dealt with the worst shit before, a floating black shape will not bother him to death. He immediately continued walking back to the direction of his base, his phase being a bit faster. Something was very wrong.
He could see the silhouette of his house; small but comfortable. The rain continued to fall heavily above him, a growling thunder escaped from its skies. His phase quickened when he held the door knob, in a flash, he was inside. His breath hitching as he gasped for air. He wasn't always like this, was the caffeine getting to him?
He rubbed his face with both of his hands, leaning on the wall for support. What the hell was that new entity? Why was it more different from the previous ones?
<Collinlock16> I'm too tired for this shit, man..
“Hello Collinlock16.”
His eyes flew open, he snapped his head to the direction of the voice. His eyes landed on the familiar figure with the red short hood and wing-shaped horns, the huge single eye standing out in front of him. Oh. He recognizes that.
<Collinlock16> Oh. It's you.
Relief finally filled his mind, easing the thick tension within his body. He then heard something rummaging behind the one-eyed entity. He leaned his body to the left in order to find the origin of the sound. Low and behold.
A sharp blue haired figure rummaging through his chest. AGAIN.
<Collinlock16> HEY!
with urgency, he roughly pushes the taller entity in front of him, he then grabs cyan man by his coat with much strength he has.
<Collinlock16> YOU'RE NOT DOING THAT AGAIN!
He furiously scolded the other like a disobedient dog. Items clattered to the floor; A golden apple, stack of iron, and a single diamond that slid across the wooden planks before stopping near Assimilation’s feet. The entity could only stare at the many items on the floor before finally looking back at the two players.
Collin was arguing with the quiet Android who still has his other arm inside the yellow player's chest.
<Collinlock16> Hey-!!
<Collinlock16> Get your arm out of MY STUFF!! ARE U EVEN LISTENING?!
Andre, who still wasn't listening, still tried to feel around the items. The entity behind them decided to slowly place their dark hand on Collin's shoulder, the yellow player could only look back at them with a sharp and tired glare.
“Collin,”
They started, before pausing to look back at the android.
“I'll handle him, Collin.”
They continued. Their massive iris shifted as it focused not on Collin, but on Andre.
Andre.
The sharp blue-haired android paused mid-rummage. His arm was still halfway inside the chest inventory, fingers phasing through item slots like he was scrolling through a menu only he could see.
The single eye narrowed.
“Andre,” Assimilation said calmly.
Andre’s shoulders stiffened.
Slowly, mechanically, he pulled his arm out of the chest. Iron ingots slipped from his fingers, clinking back to Collin's chest.
“We have an objective Andre, remember?”
Assimilation's voice suddenly grew strict at each pronunciation. P1WW would be lying if he said that he wasn't worried nor even panicking just by reading his chats.
Collin immediately removed his hand away while still maintaining his tired but furious demeanor at the blue player.
<AndreWaWo> srry.
“We'll certainly lose time, Andre.”
SOUPBEGONE31: TIMELOSS ANDRE.
Timeloss. Timeloss. Timeloss. Timeloss. Timeloss. Timeloss. Timeloss. Timeloss. Timeloss. Timeloss. Timeloss. Timeloss. Timeloss. Timeloss. Timeloss. Timeloss. Timeloss. Timeloss. Timeloss. Timeloss. Timeloss. Timeloss. Timeloss. Timeloss.
Andre's head ached at the mention of the word. He pressed a hand against his temple, trying to disseminate the sudden shockwave of pain in his system. Andre abruptly stood up before checking his timer.
10 minutes sharp.
SOUPBEGONE31: Forget about the tools, let's go find the anomaly ourselves!!
SOUPBEGONE31: We need speed!!!
xx_E-G-O_xx: calm tf down bro??
The blue player looked back at the door. He wanted to finish this quickly, but he needed the equipment in order to finish this “anomaly hunt run”.
The timer continued to flash numbers at the side of his vision; the excruciating line of TIMELOSS echoes throughout his hollow systems made nothing out of wires and other mechanical parts. It hurts him more than he could endure. His legs moved on autopilot — bolting out of Collin's house without another word. He was itching to finish that one goal, that new code in him.
Find the anomaly.
The rain droplets soaked his newly designed uniform, the fabric clinging to his frame as if trying to weigh him down. Mud splashed up his legs. Wind tore at his coat. Thunder fractured the sky into blinding white veins. None of it mattered.
SIDIsquish: how stubborn we are.
SOUPBEGONE31: We're programmed like this, what did you expect?
SIDIsquish: Did we not want to be better than this, for Millie?
SOUPBEGONE31: omg shut up about that thing.
xx_E-G-O_xx: enough y'all.
“ANDRE!”
The entity immediately teleported in front of the speeding Android. Big mistake on their part. The two collided with a brutal force, the two AIs landing on the wet grass as another thunder crackled in the dark sky.
Assimilation let out a loud yelp as they tried holding on Andre's frantic body.
Mud smeared across both their uniforms. His optics struggled to refocus.
“Stubborn, Andre.” Assimilation hissed under the rain. “Reckless as always, Andre.”
Andre pushed weakly against their chest.
<AndreWaWo> anomaly
<AndreWaWo> ahead
<AndreWaWo> let go
“I know.”
Assimilation forced him onto his back, pinning him there—not cruelly, but firmly enough that Andre couldn’t immediately spring up again. Their massive iris glowed sharply against the storm-dark sky.
The two could only glare at each other, both reasons were valid but both refused to acknowledge the others.
Rain streamed down both of their faces. The world beyond them blurred.
Seconds later, Andre's antennas finally stopped twitching before finally giving up. He refused to fight Assimilation, he just couldn't, something in his system refused to even lay a single bad intent on them.
“Andre.”
The single word lingered.
Andre’s optics lifted weakly.
“Let’s go back to Collin, Andre. We can't just go ahead without being cautious.”
The entity’s grip eased from restraining to supportive, one hand sliding from Andre’s shoulder down to his upper arm.
“There’s no need to rush everything, Andre,” Assimilation continued. “We’re not in the Admins’ lab anymore, Andre.”
That name.
Admins’ lab.
Andre’s processors flickered.
White walls, endless hallways, unknown rooms.
It gave his vision a sudden flicker of realization.
Oh right.
He thought to himself.
SIDIsquish: Andre?
SIDIsquish: I doubt Dr. Crates will even get mad at us and shoot us for doing something poorly… :((
SOUPBEGONE31: How can you be so sure?
xx_E-G-O_xx: judging by the way he was happily excited about us for having our first mission..
Conzercheez: Ego's right, he genuinely likes our stubborn ass.
SIDIsquish: see? (*˘︶˘*)
xx_E-G-O_xx: btw, welcome back Sidi
The blue player could only stare back at the chat. He's in Waking Wonder Corporation now, with different people, different environments, and different ethics. While he still has the benefit of a doubt, he feels the need to trust them.
Waking Wonder Corporation wasn’t sterile. It was very loud, chaotic even! Full of strange creatures walking past each other without fear of being decommissioned for inefficiency.
“Don't you trust me, Andre?”
Assimilation’s voice wasn’t accusing. Both of them are still on the cold wet floor, feeling into each other's gaze with this unknown tension beneath their very codings.
Trust Assimilation's words. The concept felt foreign in Andre's system.
<AndreWaWo> K.
<AndreWaWo> I trust you.
The entity's iris widened ever so slightly—an almost imperceptible shift. They slowly caressed the blue android's messy hair as if out of habit.
Maybe. Just maybe, Andre can change. Become truly sentient, perhaps?
“Understood, Andre.” they replied.
—-
Collin just finished rearranging his items, putting back the many ores he had collected while muttering cursed words under his breath.
<Collinlock16> stupid thief
<Collinlock16> didn't even give my stuff back!!
Before he could type any further, Assimilation's red text flashed his vision; his surroundings vibrated with strong emotions, as if that very text had a voice that echoed so furiously. This made the player very startled that he fell back, landing on his bum.
<Collinlock16> FUCK BRO. STOP DOING THAT!!
He turned his entire body to look from behind him, he was met with two figures who were dripping wet on his floor. He huffs as he glared at the faces.
“Sorry, Collin.” The entity could only mutter the half apology before finally stepping aside so that Collin can fully stand up.
Rainwater continued to pooled beneath them, darkening the wooden planks. Collin could only drag a hand down his face as a response, he finally pushed himself up with a small groan while he dusted his yellow coat.
<Collinlock16> you two are gonna rot my floor.
<Collinlock16> Atleast dry off.
Andre stood there, silent. His coat dripped steadily. His timer still flickered faintly at the edge of his vision — ticking… counting… documenting… all of his movements. He was itching to run again, but somehow, Sidi’s chat made him stay.
Assimilation noticed the micro-twitch in the other's fingers, deciding to stay silent for now.
“Collin,” the one-eyed entity began, voice quieter now, more grounded in a way. “There is an anomaly in your plains biome.”
<Collinlock16> yeah no shit sherlock I SAW IT.
He could only cross his arms, clearly not amused by this whole situation he was in.
<Collinlock16> tall black rectangle, glitching, jittering, and probably eating up a damn tree.
The yellow player explained, his voice sharp yet tired. He just wanted to play Minecraft despite the many entities hunting his arse down like a wanted criminal. Yet Collin can't help but wonder why this particular “anomaly” suddenly became their whole gist?
He stared at the two who were busy pondering at something before finally rubbing his other eye out of habit.
<Collinlock16> hey so, you two looked new?
Collin glared back at Andre. Specifically at Andre.
<Collinlock16> Especially you. Thought your whole thing was speedrunning this world?
He questioned before stacking another one by looking back at Assimilation.
<Collinlock16> What the hell is even happening?
“Long story Collin.”
<AndreWaWo> Got new job.
Collin blinked.
<Collinlock16> …a job.
<Collinlock16> in my minecraft world.
<Collinlock16> yeah okay sure.
He pointed at Andre accusingly.
<Collinlock16> and what?? they pay you in diamonds or something??
Andre tilted his head slightly while Assimilation folded their hands behind their back, posture oddly formal for someone dripping rainwater on a wooden floor.
“We are contracted under Waking Wonder Corporation,” they explained calmly. “We investigate anomalies across unstable servers.”
Collin stared at them like they had just told him villagers pay taxes.
<Collinlock16> Bro.
He stayed silent, trying to process everything. His head ached from the flooding information he was receiving, his fatigue adding to the pain.
<Collinlock16> I'm not thinking all that.
He muttered, pinching the bridge of his nose as he closed his eyes shut.
<Collinlock16> Look..
He continues, finally blinking the pain away.
<Collinlock16> If you want to find that stupid rectangle, go straight from here, it's big enough for you to see it.
He pointed at the wooden door. The two AIs looked at the door, then back at Collin. Assimilation’s iris narrowed slightly, observing him carefully. Andre, still dripping rainwater from his coat, tilted his head toward Collin, reading the body language, reading the words he didn’t say.
<AndreWaWo> not coming?
Collin shrugged, voice flat, almost bored.
<Collinlock16> Look, I said it. Big rectangle. Go find it. Deal with it. I’m not dying over whatever the hell that thing is.
The air inside the small wooden house seemed heavier. Rain still pounded against the roof, but Collin didn’t flinch. He slumped back against the wall, crossing his arms like a man who had given up arguing before it even started.
Assimilation stepped closer to Andre, placing a hand lightly on his shoulder. The motion was gentle.
“Let's go Andre.”
<AndreWaWo> k
<Collinlock16> …Finally.
The yellow player turned away, muttering under his breath as he returned to reorganizing his ores and chests.
<Collinlock16> Stupid rectangle… probably nothing more than a bug.
Rain splashed harder against the roof, punctuating his words. Collin didn’t glance at the door again. Not even when the faint distortion in the air just beyond it shimmered for a fraction of a second, like a ripple over still water.
And just like that, Collin made it abundantly clear: his world, his rules—He will not deal with their anomaly shit.
“Collin…”
<Collinlock16> STAY OUTSIDE THAT DAMN FENCE, HUNGRY SHIT.
—--
Andre and Assimilation were walking down the path Collin had pointed, the rain continued pouring down the world like a neverending cry, each step sending splashes across the flattened grass. The two AIs were silent as they both walked with each other, a small space evident between them and the thick air of tension.
Andre made a small habit of looking back at Assimilation whenever his optics were done scanning around the area; his antennas twitched faintly each time, tiny sparks of static flickering at their tips.
Assimilation noticed.
Of course they noticed. Especially when they were with Andre.
They somehow always notice these little things.
Their large iris shifted subtly each time Andre glanced back, but they never commented on it. The rain drummed steadily on their shoulders, sliding down the smooth surface of their horns and dripping into the tall grass.
Neither of them spoke, but their actions did.
Suddenly, Andre's system was alarmed at a new finding. A sharp spike pierced through his processors.
Environmental scan: UPDATED
Object classification: FAILED
His antennas snapped upright with a loud crackle of static.
Andre stopped walking.
Assimilation immediately noticed.
“Andre?”
The android didn’t answer, something in him was feeling somewhat cold running down his very system of wires and codes.

He slowly shakes his head, pinching the wet fabric of his white soaked coat.
Why was he so scared? He can't be scared, can he? He's been through worse, what makes this any different?
His systems kept flagging the same warning.
UNKNOWN ENTITY
UNDEFINED PARAMETERS
Assimilation took a small step closer.
Rain slid down their horns as their iris carefully studied Andre’s rigid posture.
“Andre.”
The android’s antennas twitched sharply.
He still didn’t answer.
Assimilation lowered their voice.
“What do you see?”
The blue player could only look straight back at the direction before slowly turning himself to finally face the one-eyed entity.
<AndreWaWo> Anomaly
<AndreWaWo> Looking at us
—--
Back in Waking Wonder, Phai sat comfortably on his couch; legs crossed as he casually continued scrolling down his tablet, his finger gliding down the screen as observes the tracks of Assimilation and Andre.
Dr. Crates, who was sitting beside him, slowly took a peak at the tablet to examine the data.
“Anything unusual?” he asked casually.
Phai didn’t answer immediately.
More data populated the screen.
“They found the anomaly.” Phai concluded, his other hand adjusting the protractor-shaped glasses he has.
Crates hummed thoughtfully. “Reactive?”
“Not yet,” Phai answered. He zoomed in on Andre's camera. “It’s passive. But it’s… aware.”
A brief silence settled between them — The word hung strangely in the room.
Crates leaned back slowly, a faint smile touching the corner of his mouth — not amused, but intrigued.
“Aw, did you skip the part where Andre is feeling fear?” Crates batted an eye on the other man, a small smirk appearing on his lips.Phai let out a quiet exhale through his nose, clearly unimpressed.
“Yes, Doctor,” he replied flatly, flicking the screen to expand Andre’s internal diagnostics. “I skipped it for dramatic effect.”
Dr. Crates chuckled under his breath, leaning slightly closer to the tablet again. The smirk on his lips only widened as the data came into clearer view.
Andre’s emotional simulation parameters flickered across the display.
“Well, well,” Crates murmured. “Look at that.”
On the screen, Andre’s camera feed trembled slightly from the rain hitting his sensors. The distorted anomaly warped the edges of the frame like heat rippling through glass.
Crates rested his chin on his knuckles.
“Fear,” he repeated softly, almost fondly. “From our little speedrunner exterminator.”
“I suppose it's expected, new code and new management will surely do something towards you.” Phai explained unamusedly about this new situation.
“Beginner stage!” Crates casually humored before leaning back to his own screen.
“And Assimi?”
“Subtle, but there's fear and doubt too.”
—--
Every step was a dread to Andre, he could feel the strong static and vibrations eating in his system as they got closer to the anomaly — the field in a static state. Assimilation on the other hand, could only watch, his single eye twitching, feeling a hint of worry for the other android.
The rain continued falling in endless sheets, striking the ground with a dull hiss. Each drop bounced off Andre’s soaked white coat, dripping steadily from its hem.
Ahead of them, the black rectangle stood between two oak trees.
Its edges jittered violently, pixels stretching and snapping back as if the world itself refused to render it properly. The grass beneath it flickered in and out of existence, patches of terrain repeatedly loading and unloading.
The closer they got, the louder the static became inside Andre’s auditory sensors.
—zzzzk—
His antennas twitched.
A spark ran briefly along one of the joints.
Andre slowed.
Assimilation placed a steady yet firm hand on Andre's shoulder, a signal for him to stop and take it easy.
“That will be enough, Andre.” They started. Andre’s optics flickered up at them, antennas twitching with residual sparks. He wanted to resist. He wanted to sprint forward, to complete the objective before the unknown threat could react. But Assimilation’s presence pressed on him in a different way.
Andre lowered himself onto a nearby damp rock, water dripping from his coat onto the flattened grass around him. His antennas twitched faintly as he tried to calm the residual sparks running through his system.
The anomaly loomed in the distance, still pulsating and jittering, a wound in the world that refused to render cleanly. For the first time in a long while, he didn’t feel the urge to charge at it blindly.
The timer beside his vision had stopped.
50:47 minutes.50:47 minutes.

SOUPBEGONE31: Well that was ass
xx_E-G-O_xx: Beginner level stage.
Andre exhaled slowly, letting the rain wash over him.
xx_E-G-O_xx: I'm guessing Assimilation is the Eater?
SIDIsquish: I think so!
Andre’s optics flicked to Assimilation, who remained standing a few paces away, their iris scanning the anomaly as if it were nothing more than a minor inconvenience. Their posture was calm, almost casual, but there was a weight behind it — the doubt of being able to assimilate it.
The entity continued staring at the pulsing black shape, their iris changing before finally lifting a single arm towards the direction of the anomaly; The arm lifted slowly, deliberately, almost as if measuring the distance between themselves and the anomaly. Rain ran down the smooth curve of Assimilation’s horns, dripping in thin lines onto the grass below.
Their massive iris narrowed, focusing not on the pulsing shape itself but on the distortion in the air around it — the static field that clawed at Andre’s circuits. The world seemed to bend slightly where their hand pointed, like the anomaly recognized the gesture, sending another wave of static vibration through Andre.
The blue player made a loud gasp — the sound tore from him involuntarily as he lurched forward off the rock, fingers digging into wet soil. His antennas sparked violently, blue arcs snapping between their tips.
SOUPBEGONE31: BRO WTF

xx_E-G-O_xx: Fear STOP
Conzercheez: WHO WOULDN'T SPAM IN THIS EVENT??
Assimilation immediately looked back at Andre with surprise, his concentration broken in the process as he put all their attention to the blue android.
“ANDRE!” Assimilation’s voice cracked across the storm.
Their focus shattered the moment Andre clawed at the soaked earth, fingers digging into mud as another violent vibration tore through him—his own fist striking his own head with irritation.
No more thinking.
Andre is in dreadful pain.
The entity launched forward through the rain, their body cutting across the field like a streak of red against the gray storm. The anomaly pulsed violently in response, its edges tearing and jittering as if trying to escape the incoming force. Assimilation’s outstretched hand made contact.
For a split second—The world froze.
A sudden flash light, blinding the world for a few seconds followed by a loud screech of static and other sound waves flowed faster than the wind—The black rectangle exploded into fracturing layers of corrupted geometry. Jagged lines of code tore out from it like exposed nerves, writhing and lashing against Assimilation’s arm. The grass around them flickered between loaded and unloaded chunks, blocks phasing in and out of existence.
Andre could barely see anything from the many glitches and colors flashing before him, the strong wind even contributing to his vision.
The rain continued pouring down throughout the chaos.
Assimilation’s iris widened as the anomaly tried to push back. The black distortion climbed up their arm, spreading like ink through water, attempting to consume them. Regardless of the anomaly's strength, they pushed through it—digging their whole arm deeper in its slop of codings.
It earned them a louder scream from the geometric anomaly.
Without notice, the whole Minecraft world blinked out, no sky, no grass, and not even rain.
Just void.
Then…
Everything snapped back.
Rain resumed mid-fall.
The decent wind returned.
Grass rendered properly.
The anomaly was gone.
Assimilation sat on the soaked ground where it had stood. Their breathing was heavier than usual, shoulders rising and falling slowly. Black residue dripped from their arm before evaporating into harmless static.
He looked down at their hand, their arm numb and sore. Upon uncurling their fingers, they saw the pulsing core beneath their finger tips—loud and glitchy; it was a ball shaped one, it acted like a heart without its vessel.
Assimilation stared at it quietly.
Rain slid down their wrist and dripped onto the pulsing sphere, but the water never touched it. Each droplet warped slightly and slid away, as if the core rejected physical contact.
It had managed to assimilate its entire form, even absorbing everything.
A piercing shriek tore through their system like a corrupted signal forced through every channel at once.
“—AHH!”
Assimilation’s body jerked violently as they screamed back, the sound ripping out of them before they could suppress it. Their free hand flew to the side of their head, claws digging slightly into their temple as if trying to rip the noise out.
Their entire body trembled. Not because the core attacked them, but because their system was trying to digest what they had taken in.
Fragments of corrupted code surged through their arm, spreading like a burning current along their internal structures. Assimilation’s horns sparked faintly as their processes struggled to stabilize.
Andre who just finished standing up, his antennas shot up from Assimilation's sudden noise of agony.
<AndreWaWo> Assimilation?!
He bolted to their side immediately.
The rain continued to crack above them, giving the same loud sound as Assimilation's screeches, the entity's iris even flickered violently as the overload continued.
They doubled over slightly, fingers digging into the wet grass as their scream faded into strained breathing.
Andre could only shake them out of fear, not sure what to do either. He was not trained for this event, and neither was Assimilation.
The two went back and forth of fear and dread coursing through their entire system while the rain continued pouring down the biome.
Andre's antennas immediately sparked. He remembered something.
Without hesitation, he pressed the small button just beneath his headphones.
“This is the Waking Wonder support group, how may we assist?”
—-
“You see, there's this small bump when it comes to being a WaWo employee.”
Dr. Crates started, staring at Lyth with a small smile.
“And I assume you're already aware of it.”
Lyth didn’t immediately respond. Instead, she glanced back at the many monitors displaying the many workers’ pov cameras, to say she wasn't surprised was an understatement.
Then back to Crates.
“…The side effects,” she answered flatly.
Dr. Crates’ smile widened slightly, pleased.
“Bingo.”
He leaned back in his chair, clasping his hands together over his stomach like someone explaining a mildly amusing inconvenience rather than a dangerous occupational hazard.
“What you brought those two goes beyond what they'll expect.” He adds. “I hope you told them they'll fight for their life.”
Lyth’s breath hitched slightly, a small pause betraying the calm composure she usually carried. Her horns caught the dim light of the monitors, glinting faintly as she shifted her weight.
“Of-Of course I did…” Her voice cracked in response. “Why shouldn't I?” her smile trembled. Lies. She didn't warn them.
Dr. Crates’ smile widened ever so slightly, a glint of knowing in his eyes. He leaned back further, the chair creaking under him as he folded his fingers together over his stomach, as though he were quietly amused by the subtle tremor in her voice.
“Hah,” he said softly, more to himself than to her. “Good. That’s exactly how it should be.”
Lyth’s gaze dropped to the floor, the weight of the monitors’ flickering lights reflecting in her eyes. She could feel the pulse of the anomaly core through the feed, could almost hear Assimilation’s heavy breathing, Andre’s jittering movements alongside his yelling… and yet she said nothing.
“No wonder the boss loves to have you.”
