Starting her own investigation, Barbara learns the dark truth of what happened on October 10th.

Jim’s train of thoughts was suddenly cut short as Bular reached him. “Today you die, Trollhunter,” he rumbled. “Yet another Trollhunter killed on this bridge. How…pathetic. The amulet never should have chosen you.”
He raised his two swords and Jim cowered, shielding himself with his trembling arms as he prepared to meet his fate.
Bular’s blade glinted as it came down, and Jim squeezed his eyes shut—
The blades hit, crashing down with the force of a full grown Gumm-Gumm, but…they didn’t quite hit where he expected.
His shoulder and head screamed in pain simultaneously and while Jim knew he shouldn’t scream to not give the satisfaction of his pain to Bular, the sheer agony made him cry out loudly.
“Expecting the sweet release of death already, Trollhunter?“ Bular chuckled. “Oh, no. I intend to drag out your death as long as I can.”
Or, this is an AU where the fight with Bular and episode 13 went a whole lot worse because Jim had only had like two weeks training and he had never even fought anyone before he started training.
Also, because I like hurting Jim, and this seemed like a reasonable way to do it.

Toby Domzalski has a dream. He's been having lots of dreams, actually. They're not really the average kind of dreams you'd expect a teenager to be having. Being crushed to death and watching your best friend who basically skipped town a year ago do weird things like stabbing himself with a cool sword and opening portals with dark-haired sorceresses, it's like...well, it's kind of just weird, you know.
So when those dreams start matching reality, just a tiny bit, he starts getting pretty damn worried.

“Did I tell you about how one of those trolls totally had like six eyes?”
Jim smiles at him.
“You did.” He slides the casserole into the oven, and then leans his hip against the counter, something unreadable in his eyes. “We’ve got time, though. Tell me again.”
Toby does.(Toby dies, Belroc lights the world aflame, and for the first time in his life, Jim chooses to be selfish)

He’s losing time-it’s not hard to understand why, but it is difficult to fight against it. There’s no fight left in him right now, not anymore. He holds the very essence of time in the palm of his hands. He doesn’t look up from the rubble, can’t bring himself to. The wind is blowing harder now, the promise of rain on the way. Sending ripples in her wake, every turn leads her to stumble farther and farther into a centuries old mess. Things, at times, felt as if the past had come to drag her down.
Something is brewing in Arcadia and, for some reason, the small town has more secrets than it does answers. Even people who've lived there for their entire lives don't realise anything's wrong, so how could some kid possibly fall into such a tangled collision of worlds? Then again, adventure favours the unfortunate and there's 𝐚𝐥𝐰𝐚𝐲𝐬 a price.
Trapped in a web of hazy memories and an ambiguous past, the right path becomes ever unclearer. Choices must be made and lines drawn, with loyalties and wants clashing in the build up to the Eternal Night.
