Now, someone walked into the room. A boy, awkwardly standing at the side of his bed, looking over him worriedly. His hair was brown and scruffy, and he had big baby doe eyes and a yellow-and-blue horizontally-striped shirt like a cartoon character. The window was lighting him up like he was important to Mike’s narrative. The curtains are blue, thought Mike, this boy is light. I love metaphors. Maybe he was high on the pain meds. Upon seeing him, Mike felt a great affection, a great peace. Plus, he had long eyelashes. Mike almost giggled to himself. He was definitely a little high.
“Hi.” breathed Mike.
“Hi.” he said, hesitating.
“We’re friends?” Mike asked hopefully.
Or: During the Party's final battle with Vecna, Mike is gravely injured and loses his memories. He wakes up in a hospital only remembering a handful of inconsequential little things, like how much he loves a boy who seems like light.

So, uh--holy shit? I should really be asleep right now but alas. The tags were not lying about this going back and forth from super sweet to super angsty LOL. But in the best of ways. Mike's journey with internalized homophobia was a little too real like wow. So well done. Found myself really relating to the lines about Mike feeling exposed finally letting himself Talk About It, like he was leaving the house without pants on or generally doing something wrong or off.
And the plot in general? Mike being so whipped for Will? Mike's interspersed interactions with El and Nancy and Max and really everybody in the party? So amazing -

Summary
Lost in a twisted replica of his hometown and beset by monsters and strangling vines at every turn, Will is running out of hope for survival when unexpected help arrives in the form of Mike the Brave: an armor-clad, sword-wielding squire from another universe.
