When HQ assigns a new man to the team, it looks like they really lucked out. Steve Whitaker, a good strong generalist, is quickly becoming everyone's friend. Well, maybe not everyone's. He and Chief just don't seem to mesh, and as the young man sees the others taking to the newcomer more and more, Chief starts to wonder if he'll have a place with the team much longer. He'd thought they were becoming a family; now, he has to wonder. Events soon prove interesting, showing that however different people may be, one thing seems to be a common thread - more often than not, there seems to be a solid sense of - 'you take care of family'

They were both driven men, driven by an inner compulsion obvious and well known to those closest to them. Goniff had sticky fingers and a sometimes irresistable urge to 'snaffle' whatever shiny, sparkly or otherwise tempting object that caught his eye, and admittedly some very odd items DID catch his eye. Craig was focused, driven to succeed at whatever he'd currently put his mind to. Those compulsions had sometimes proved annoying, frequently dangerous during the war, though as to which one had been more dangerous, it wasn't even a question. Frankly, most of the team would have given the award to Garrison, a hundred to one - hell, a thousand to one! Now, it was different, different time, different circumstances. The war was over, but the compulsions, well, not so much. Will those compulsions now drive them apart?

August had started out being 'Awful Scary Story' month, but no one could live with the side-effects of that. Then, mid-month, they voted to change it to 'Amazing Amatory Adventures' month, once Actor explained what 'amatory' meant. That had a few side-effects of its own, resulting in a twenty-four hour pass in London that - you guessed it! Somehow Garrison could visualize the whole month of August as a snowball rolling down a steep hill, gathering bulk, speed and momentum, eventually crushing his sanity, and his wallet, flat! Well, at least he could rest a little easier next month - Songful September - what could go wrong with THAT??!

In the episode "The Expendables", Goniff sniffed disdainfully after Major Richards left the room, and told the others something along the line of "it's blokes like that's the reason I left England". Well, perhaps that was partially true. But certainly, probably not the only reason, not the MAIN reason. The rest of it? Well, it seems Maxie wasn't the only old enemy Goniff had left behind. There were at least two more, and they've just caught up with him. Old enemies and new friends - just NOT a healthy combination, not for Goniff, and unless he can pull off a masterful performance, not for his friends either.

It was supposed to be an easy assignment, one of the easiest he could remember them being given. Well, in all honesty, a lot of the 'easy' ones had turned out to be anything but. Still, not only had the O'Donnell woman shown up, out of the blue, she'd managed to pull the rug out from under Garrison and the team, louse up the operation so they'd come away without accomplishing what they'd been sent to do, along with managing to get an entire French Underground unit wiped out! She'd managed to turn a simple, easy mission into a mission gone to hell!! Just whose side was she on??!
