Dead Promises
I love a good sappy but solemn exchange between Muir and Innes, especially when Muir’s infected, and this is a great treat! There’s some very good dialogue here and their personalities are fantastic! Overall a bittersweet but wholesome wee fic with some heartfelt moments, and with one line in particular that might even get a laugh out of you. Worth a read for all Muirinnes enjoyers! I’d love to see more!‘Innes… are we going to live?’
‘Aye… as long as we are together… we can live as long as we want.’ -

Innes would love to be able to publicly adore Muir, see the way his face would light up when joking with his friends, or how his freckles appeared like stars in the right lighting. He’d love to be able to hold him or go on dates in public without getting strange looks from those who didn’t even try to understand.
Yet if he were to do so they would both be thrown in prison.

Tempest in a Teapot
A lovely tribute to Muirinnes that covers a lot of sensitive topics. Everything feels down to earth in the best of ways, from their interactions to their dialogue, and is complete with a unique, albeit devastating take on Muir’s character. I love exploring these aspects of their relationship, and this is a very open, emotional and honest portrayal of their guilt, desires and, ultimately, their shame. This is a very perspective fic that’s well worth your time, and I recommend it to anyone looking for a more serious read. Mind the tags – they’re important.Innes became a little weary, the attention was not good considering Addair’s ego and Muir’s tendency to throw lighthearted insults that almost always landed. Almost always landed with anyone but Addair.
Also, on a lighter note, cranachan-loving Muir mentioned! I love that pudding! I’ll have to make some again soon.

Held
A sweet wee fic both domestic and emotional. I love how Innes’ emotions are presented – it’s so accurate to his character – and I really love how gentle and sincere the descriptions are. A very lovely domestic vignette that evokes such cosy feelings amidst emotional vulnerability. Thank you for sharing this fic with us! I hope to read more from you!The setting sun shone orange rays through the window right behind them, illuminating the kitchen in a way that seemed to not even resemble reality anymore. It felt like quiet transcendence – something so mundane yet so ethereal, like a hug from above enveloping and tying together both of them. This shared space, this shared moment was the most bare, rawest testament of love.
By the way, as someone who uses the en dash, use those em dashes! Nobody can take them away from you!

Tendril / Impale
Incredibly moving and emotional, all bundled up in a fleeting moment. I loved every sentence in this, and I also love the 'and they might as well be canon at this point' tag. I won't say much as to not spoil the raw emotion in this fic, but to those that see this: this is a beautiful and poetic tribute that no Muirinnes fan should miss out on reading. He wanted to go back to the sea.
And he did, for a short time, he did.
Just for a moment, he was back in the sea.
Back, lost in Muir’s eyes. Because really, they were more beautiful than the sunset. It was barely a contest.
And for a moment he got to enjoy them. His eyes.
They were a bit wide, looked daft when he smiled, but Innes still liked them.
He liked them now, even if there were more than before. -

Cradling Waves
A whole lot of fluff and domestic feels in this one! I adore their banter so much, and this fic captures it quite well. There's a silly sweetness in this that anyone who loves these two will absolutely enjoy. I know I did! The descriptions are lovely! He slowly studied the details of the man above him, as he’s done more times than he’d ever admit. Every wrinkle with age, every hair on his face, the colour of his eyes even as the shadows cast a dark sheet of anonymity around him.

To Love
Despite the angst, this fic is so touching in such a somber way. My heart started aching when I read about Innes reminiscing about curling up with Muir. There’s something so… bittersweet that’s been woven into those lines. The description there as well – regarding feeling invisible but being seen by Muir – is beautiful. This was such a fantastic read. Brilliant work!Also is that a wee reference to Love Duet I see?? I’m going to cry that’s so sweet ;;
There are so many great moments here, it’s hard to decide which one I want to feature… I’ve already gone through two, haha! But I think I’ve finally settled on one...
He didn't need the world to know though – because he knew. And Muir knew as well. They loved each other… and that's all Innes really, truly needed. All that was needed was knowing someone actually loved him for once in his life.
As a wee side note, I really enjoyed the opening paragraph; it’s short and sweet, and it really brings the rig’s environment to life. I can smell the suffocating stench of oil and putrid diesel, and I can imagine hearing the industrial sounds on the deck. Well done!

Fig Leaf
Firstly, I really like the name of this fic! It’s a proper novelty, Fig Leaf. I also really like its metaphorical implication. A good choice of title! This feels a lot like a standalone chapter for Tempest in a Teapot given how it explores similar mindsets, fears and inner conflicts, which is approached sensitively and explored realistically by this author. I really appreciate how it opens up with a social afterwork scene that evolves into something much more emotionally driven. It’s deep and uncomfortable, but in the end there’s resolution made to dissolve the tension.
I always enjoy reading different ‘slice of life’ depictions of what life on the rig is like, and this fic delicately balances it with internal worries true to the time period.
Innes couldn’t help but watch Muir as he pranced about, clumsily moving his body around to the music with a grin. His movement was mesmerising to Innes, despite it not even being that good or smooth. Just watching Muir have fun was enough to have his heart beating too loud for him to ignore.
Mind the tags with this one!

A Long Overdue Gift ‘To My Ewan’
I was teary-eyed more than once whilst reading this! Seeing so many familiar details in this is so sweet and touching ;; Leave it to Muir to still misplace his chanter to this very day!I love that Innes is finally able to give Muir his gift in this, long after they’ve passed. The exchange is so beautifully done, it’s hard not to get all teary! The revelation that they don’t need to hide is so emotional…
The book is a quality leather, luckily undamaged by water, not even the word on the front were faded, reading ‘To My Ewan’, this book was a journal of sorts, where Innes wrote all his poetry and random notes, even the rare doodle, the title on the front of the book wasn't added till much later, as the words grew more affectionate, longful, and soon enough, loving, stories and poems written by Innes, starting from inspiration by the sea, and slowly meshing with and replaced by Ewan.
What more can I say besides the fact that I absolutely love this passage. Simply beautiful.
I don’t know how this escaped my Muiradar for so long, but I’m so happy I finally had the chance to read it.
