The Charmings kidnapped Maleficent's baby and sent it off to an unknown world , so Maleficent did the same thing to them. The thing most people did not know about Maleficent , she was actually a Faerie and she had many half-siblings from different realms--one of those siblings happened to be the Goblin King ,Jareth and he was (un)happy to do her the favor of taking in the child she stole. Princess Emma would be gone until Maleficent had answers as to what happened to her own child , the Charmings would get the karma they deserved and so would Regina ; because their grief led the White King and Queen to capture the Evil Queen before she had a chance to enact her curse.

Emma Swan managed to break the curse, and everyone regained their memories of their previous ‘fairytale’ lives, except they still remain in Storybrooke, unable to leave the town’s borders or return home back to their world. Blaming Regina for the curse, the townspeople all gather to punish her, but Rumplestiltskin has a much worse punishment in store for the former Queen—“a fate worse than death”.
When the Charming family, the Doctor and the Ponds form an alliance to stop the threat, the Doctor and the Prince end up, once again, losing the very people they love as Emma, Snow White, Amy and Rory are separated from them, back to the Fairytale World, with seemingly no means of returning to Storybrooke. It will be either up to the Doctor and the Prince to get them back, or the ladies and Rory will have to find a way to return to Storybrooke themselves, but they must ally with the most unexpected of fairytale heroes and villains to do so.
