Summary
In the times Dream lives in prison, he comes up with a plan. He really wanted to get Tommy for his plans, but it would be quite hard because Tommy knew a lot of his tricks and was harder to manipulate. So Dream gets a great idea, he would travel back in time to the first L'Manburg war, where Tommy was young and naive. The twelve-year-old boy would be way easier to sway to Dream's side.
So with the help of some 'friends' and a God, Dream successfully creates a time machine. Going back in time to a timeline where the Independence War was just happening, Dream starts his plan. Wilbur is the President, Tommy is a child. They aren't ready for what Dream got planned.

Wilbur had read him a poem once, about how you know you’re still alive or something like that. He didn’t remember most of it. But he remembered the trick the poet had written about—how you know you’re alive as long as you can still make a fist. Tommy as a child had giggled and slugged his brother in the shoulder, but Tommy today had nobody left to fight. He didn’t think he had the strength to fight anyone anyway, but still. He’d become so familiar with his anger, his rage like a spitting wildcat in his throat, in his fists; his fear was a constant companion, too. Not even in the latter stages of his exile had he felt so… empty.
But he could still make a fist.

This was meant to be a cute sickfic, it turned into quite a difficult analysis of teenage relationships and internalised self worth issues

So Tommy hauled his ass out of bed, ignoring the way that his head immediately protested. Ibuprofen, he added to the small mental list of things he missed from before the apocalypse. He wondered if there were still any bottles that weren’t long expired.
They were moving today, the Northeastern horde coming too close to comfort at their current camp. Techno had decided that they were headed to the suburbs, now that they had the supplies they needed, in hopes of dodging any big groups from now on. Any argument Tommy had about staying in the city was shut down easily by the both of them, and while frustrating to no end, he knew it made sense.

Tommy could feel the flames from their torches licking his back. and sharp ends of pitchforks tearing into his flesh. Blood rushes from his wounds and soaks into his shirt. He pushes himself to run faster.
He doesn't want to run anymore; he thinks as he takes a sudden turn.
When he was a younger boy, and his mom was still around, she had warned him of the forest. Of the things lurking in the shadows, of the sparkling eyes trying to lure you in, of ugly, vile, creatures that she said wouldn't hesitate to rip him apart.
Tommy didn't want to die but he couldn't keep running.

Tommy was sick. He wasn’t supposed to be sick, but he felt horrid. His stomach was cramping, he had a migraine, and he kept throwing up. He was shaking and fairly sure he was running a fever. And to make it all worse, he had to go see Dream today. But instead, he was curled up in bed, Henry close to his chest as he cradled the little cow plushie. He was crying softly as whatever was wrong with him ravaged his small body.
He already knew he was late but he couldn’t let Dream know he was worthless- Dream always said sickness was a weakness.. He started praying that none of the vampires would realize he was sick because he knew that they would tell Dream. He knew that they didn’t care and that they’d get him in trouble just for the fun of it.
Because vampires are cruel, They don’t care. It was something he’d learned a hundred times over in his six years of life, That vampires were cruel and heartless and didn’t care about him or his wellbeing
He was sobbing so hard he didn’t hear the door open, a cold hand placed itself on his shoulder- He jerked so hard he almost smacked his head into the wall as he whirled around to face-
