This was probably the closest one could get to peaked-as-a-teenager, burnt out former gifted kid syndrome when they were a mutant ninja turtle.
Sure, they'd defeated the Shredder and the Krang, but that was about 20 years ago. Ever since then its been nothing more than petty crimes and supernatural shenanigans and, well, that wasn't really fulfilling. At least, not anymore. No big bad guys, no more "save the world" schemes...
Not that Donatello wanted to save the world again, that was stressful and traumatic enough for everyone the first time. Well, he would if he had to, I mean, that's what superheroes do, right?
They don't just sit around trying to keep themselves busy, trying every hobby under the sun, waiting for that spark to come back, just going through the motions, letting themselves be miserable...
...right?
Thats what he thought until people started disappearing and someone started making new mutants.
