He placed a hand on her hip and took her hand once more into his. There was silence between them. The world around them buzzed with excitement. The candles above flickered. The Great Hall had been decorated with fall decor, and golden and orange leaves fell from the ceiling and vanished right before landing on the floor. The sweet smell of cinnamon and spice.
The music started to play, the moment of truth. Had her partner practiced the steps. He began to lead her with ease, just as smoothly as her practices with Neville. She felt the pace and followed him. She looked into his soft blue eyes, trying to figure out who she had been paired with. Curly dark brown locks bounced with each step he took.

Starts in sixth year but differs a lot from the original story as I try to fix everything that always bugged me when I read the books. Hermione is a ticket attendant, working several jobs to make ends meet, and Draco is a Hogwarts professor, commuting weekly on the Hogwarts Express. And then there's Theodore Nott: Draco's best friend, and the man Hermione has fallen hopelessly in love with at first sight (much to Draco's dismay).
