Summary
If it were safer, I would have kissed you in the daylight.
East Berlin, 1964.
Warren Kepler, dutiful Stasi officer, lives in the static—recording dissidents, obeying orders, trying not to feel too much. Gray rooms. Gray rules. A life half-lived.
Then he hears the voice.
Doug Eiffel, brash American spy and pirate broadcaster, slips through the airwaves with jazz, sedition, and laughter wrapped in smoke. He’s everything Warren shouldn’t want—and everything Warren can’t stop needing.
What begins as surveillance becomes obsession.
Obsession becomes contact.
Contact becomes something far more dangerous.Across a city built on silence, two men risk everything for the sound of each other’s breath.

Summary
Dominik and Renée's story hadn't been the kind of romantic story that would make one think We will always have Paris.
Of course, after everything that happened, Dominik would find himself thinking. At least that. At least we had Paris.
Or, the story of a man who fell in love with a woman who loved the stars, and all the tragedies that followed.

Summary
Post finale, Doug just wants everything to feel normal. He's sick of the pitying looks, and the expectations, and the hurt that comes from everyone wanting him to be someone he's not anymore. So, when given the option, he injects his memories back into his head; the only problem is his memories aren't the only ones swimming around Hera's code.

Summary
There is a small number of available courses of action to take when you find yourself locking eyes with a hooded viper. A normal person might, for example, stop dead in their tracks. If they're smart, they would back away slowly, keeping the necessary eye contact to ensure the snake stays put from where it's hissing at them from. Snakes can bite even with their heads chopped off, fully. Something about their muscle memory. Or the brain still running after its connection to the stem had been severed?
Jacobi isn't really a snake expert.
(In which Daniel Jacobi messes up on a whim, and is now paying for it with his sanity. Warren Kepler gives him a framework of discipline and regrets it.)

It was the friendlier, easier version of things. Oh, the gay scientist from Montana doesn't talk to her family anymore? Well, of course! Right, Right. That makes sense. Of course it does.

Summary
Renée hasn’t been to a beach in a very long time. The ocean is a very different sort of monster than space, but she thinks she’ll handle it just the same: with grace, ease, and possibly a mutiny. Or two.
or, the surviving Hephaestus crew is about to celebrate their first anniversary of coming home. That doesn't mean anything is easier.

Summary
After leaving the Hephaestus Station behind, the crew are ready to get back to Earth and move forward. But then, against all odds, Doug begins to remember who he used to be. Even if he's still not quite himself, and he's growing sicker with every passing day, him remembering is good, right? Why wouldn't it be?
(Little do they know, there's another passenger on their ship, and it's made its home in a certain communications officer.)

Summary
Renee Minkowski feels the weight of gravity - she feels it in every movement, in every glance from her husband, and in the soles of her feet on early morning runs.
She wished she didn't feel it in Doug's gaze, or in Lovelace's silence.

Summary
Being born falling was a defining human characteristic, Eiffel figured. It’s like, hey, you’re born, congratulations, enjoy your new random assemblage of genes, watch out for boa constrictors and pyramid schemes, and sorry about puberty. Oh, and by the way, you’re going to spend your life in permanent free-fall. The taller, only fractionally less-confused members of your species call it ‘gravity’. Good luck with that.
However: a propensity for falling still didn’t explain why he fell into Hilbert’s medical, into Hilbert’s exam table, into a series of truly wild decisions, and (eventually) out of his mind on a whacked-out combination of pain, pleasure and… something else.
(Featuring a medical, a ‘medical’, a “medical”, and overall a little more hands-on science than Eiffel entirely expected.)

Summary
“When is it going to break you?”
Eiffel laughed, a high-pitched, reedy sound. “When is what going to break me? I’m sorry, but you’re going to have to be more specific. The star? E.T.? The crushing void of space? This fucking space station?”
“The others.”
....
I just realized that Eiffel is the Scapegoat character and had to write him getting what he deserves. i.e. an apology. -

Summary
“I’m supposed to be a doctor,” Maxwell whispered. “I work with computers. Not firearms.” The shake in her hands strengthened, and she could feel her resolve being chipped away like a marble sculptor tapping a chisel at an uneven wall of stone.
“You are. And now, you’re my agent. You’re both, Alana,” Kepler stated with ease. “It’s best you don’t forget that any time soon.”

Summary
Look, it wasn’t even his fault this time, he didn’t know why the electrical box had caught fire! And he did try to explain that, but nobody believed him. He was the ship idiot, after all.
And so he found himself aimlessly floating down the hallway towards Hilbert's lab. He didn’t know why he was going there. In fact, he didn’t really realise he was going there at all until he reached the metal doors.

"In the meantime, I'm sure I could program something for you that could… mimic the feeling of pleasure."
"R-really?"
"Of course. It can't be that hard. I mean, compared to reconstructive brain surgery—"
"I feel like I remember you fainting immediately after that," Hera points out.
Maxwell rolls her eyes, but she's still smiling. "I still did it, didn't I? After that, this should be a piece of cake." Her expression doesn't change, but her ears redden slightly as she adds, "And I could help you test it out, if you're alright with that."

Summary
There's no night in space, but there's still nightmares. Maybe they count. Maybe they don't. Maybe none of this counts for anything at all, and when you nearly kill the person you care about most, that's pretty easy to believe.
In the end, what counts more than anything else is that Minkowski is there for Lovelace, even when Lovelace thinks she doesn't deserve it.
