Hi, I'm FireBatVillain!
I'm a writer from California in his 30s. Call me Firebat!
I read and wrote my first fanfics in the early 2000s when I started playing Warhammer 40,000, though I didn't know them as fanfics at the time. 40k is kind of an unusual fandom in that regular players of the game often write pieces of canon-compliant fic for their custom factions, and this is encouraged by GW. So, I didn't think of it as fanfiction. I also read The Last Ringbearer without really thinking of it as fanfiction.
I first really got into fanfiction in the early 2010s after I got out of college. My initial interest was in Harry Potter and Naruto fanfics, but I spread out from there, reading fanfics for Bleach, Nasuverse, and Worm, then getting involved in Sufficient Velocity and Spacebattles, reading huge amounts of ASOIAF meta on Tumblr, and eventually making my way over to Ao3.
Fanfiction draws me in because it's a place to express myself, to have fun writing, and to explore new ideas in some of my favorite works. I consider myself to be basically a self-indulgent reader and writer. I wallow luxuriantly in the most cliche of tropes, oh yes.
I try to take part in fests from time to time and try to leave comments whenever I read.
