    In Azdaema's fantastic "Open Your Eyes," Bruno is introduced as being very religious. He attempted to deal with his unmanageable weird feelings for Mirabel the way his faith had taught him to: by going to Confession.

    Padre Flores' original warning to Abuela Alma triggered the whole family suspecting, and then Mirabel and Bruno admitting their feelings for one another... in front of the whole town. What if they have hope that the Church, and therefore their family and the rest of the Encanto, will eventually allow and accept their marriage, and so work to improve their relationships with the rest of their family, and build new ones with their community, all while trying to avoid creating further scandal?

    Come for the shippy feels, stay for the family and village drama and a look at pre-Vatican II Catholicism in an isolated rural village in one of the world's most Catholic countries.

       The first time she asks him, she's barely seventeen and – thanks heaven – Dolores is freshly married and currently away and surely minding her own business.
       It's not as this is unexpected, she muses. He must know, by now. He should have long anticipated such an outcome - por el amor de Dios, that's what he does, he foresees things, doesn't he?
      Maybe that's the case, maybe she's right and maybe he knew. Still, he looks exactly like he's about to faint, and that's the only reaction she's going to get from him. Well, that and his discomposed, actual fainting when, a moment later, she tries to kiss him.
       She sighs. She doesn't doubt one day he'll say yes. She just wonders how long he'll have her waiting.
