Vacancy

Summary:

As he walked over to his headphones on the floor, he heard his doorknob being twisted and then a bang on the door followed by a muffled groan. Was someone trying to break in now? He panicked.

Notes:

I started writing this last year and then got really sidetracked with my own personal work. Well today I stumbled across it and decided to give this a test run since I really did love it a lot and felt pretty proud of it at the time. So here is a small short first chapter that I gave a quick read over and edit. Please do tell if you enjoyed it! I have more written but this is all for now. Thanks for reading!

Chapter 1: In My Zone

Chapter Text

Banging. That was all he could hear even though his headphones were on and the volume was up to the max. He shoved his fingers in his hair groaning in frustration. What the hell was going on out there? It was three in the morning and someone was out in the apartment hallway banging and kicking on the damn wall. “Shut up!” He needed to finish this audio tape so he could submit it and get paid but no this person in the hallway would not stop hitting or kicking the wall. He threw his headphones off his head and felt his hand going to his neck his nails digging into it, his anxiety was rising as he listened to this idiot. Finally, the noise quieted down and he took a deep breath, he could finish the person was done with whatever it was they were doing. Or so he thought.

As he walked over to his headphones on the floor, he heard his doorknob being twisted and then a bang on the door followed by a muffled groan. Was someone trying to break in now? He panicked for a moment before finally pulling on the dusk mask that hung loosely around his neck to cover his mouth and nose as he walked to the door, slowly peering out of the small peep hole. Wait that was his crazy neighbor. “What does he want at three in the morning?” He mumbled taking a step back from the door. They hadn’t spoken since he moved in two weeks ago, he just briefly saw him coming and going. “Just open the door and tell him to fuck off.” He resisted the urge to attack his neck with his nails and finally opened the door narrowing his eyes at the guy.

“What the hell?!” He yelled in the guy’s face, having to look up just a bit to meet his eyes he didn’t realize he was a little taller than himself.

“Huh.” Was the only response he got from the guy. Up close Shigaraki realized that he was covered in burns and…piercings? Staples? What the hell was this guy’s deal? What happened to him? Not like he was one to talk he was covered in scars himself and he didn’t dare show his face in public. Ever. “This…is not my apartment…” A laugh erupted from him and he leaned against the door frame as if he was trying to hold himself up.

“Obviously not dumb ass! Can you stop making so much noise it’s three in the morning!” He quickly gathered himself and yelled at the guy again hoping to drive his point across.

“Mhm.” But the guy didn’t move he just stood there leaning against the frame his eyes closing slowly as if…wait was he falling asleep?!

“What the fuck?!” Shigaraki reached out to shove the guy careful to keep his pinky lifted, he did not want to deal with the repercussions of accidentally activating his quirk and causing this guy’s arm to turn to dust on the spot. “Go home your place is right there! Get out of my doorway!” He started to slam the door shut on the guy to force him out, but his hand reached out quickly stopping the door with a loud thump.

“Wait…my place…is…where?” Shigaraki wanted to scream, how did this guy not know where his apartment was? Then he smelled it as the guy leaned in closer, alcohol. “Why you got…that mask on?” His finger reaching out to poke at the dusk mask. Shigaraki quickly slapped his hand away.

“There! Right there!” He pushed on the guy motioning to the next door down.

“Oh! Got you.” He watched as the guy turned around after giving him finger guns and walked away to his own door. He let out an exhale and shut his door thankful that was over. Now hopefully he could get back to work and finish this—A bang sounded on his door directly this time.

“What…the…” Bang. “FUCK?!” He grabbed the door handle swinging it open to see the guy standing there once more. “What?! What do you want from me?!” He couldn’t control his temper one of his faults and his hand automatically went to his neck nails digging in as he started scratching as if he could scratch hard enough to make this guy vanish.

“Calm down kitty cat.” The guy laughed and flashed him a smile making Shigaraki want to punch him right in the face. “I…cannot open the door…like…see? Just look, look.” His hand wrapped around Shigaraki’s wrist dragging him outside the door before he could even react.

I’m going to be murdered or I will be the murderer! One or the other he wasn’t sure which one yet until he saw the door and the keys hanging in the lock. “W…what?” He was utterly confused now, of course he could get in his apartment.

“It won’t work…” He sighed and then leaned against the wall closing his eyes. “I just…need to sleep a little.”

“What do you want me to do?” Shigaraki mumbled, was this the only way to get this guy to leave him alone? Open the door for him or?  “Are you sleeping right now? Out here?” He could just leave him, why not? He didn’t know this guy at all so why help him especially after annoying the living crap out of him.

“If you don’t…I’ll just keep…knocking.” The guy didn’t open his eyes one bit but obviously he was still in the living world.

“Like hell you will!” He grabbed the key and tried turning it, it didn’t budge. “What the fuck?” He tried again and still nothing, so he took the key out after having to tug quite a bit. It had to be the wrong key, so he looked at the other three that were there and tried them. Nothing worked and he groaned in frustration and glared over at the guy once more. “Where is your damn key?!”

“It’s the one that was in…here…” He sighed and opened his eyes holding his hand out meeting Shigaraki’s eyes. His eyes were piercing and Shigaraki didn’t like it, he didn’t like the look in his eye at all. It felt like he was standing there butt ass naked, what was with that stare? Shigaraki didn’t respond and felt the keys leaving his hand. “This one…it’s like the lock is jammed.”

He broke the eye contact and quickly took the keys from him coming back to the first key that didn’t work in the first place. He tried again still having no luck. “Is this the original key?” He demanded. If this was really the key it should work unless it was a shitty made copy of some sort.

“Nope, copy.” He knew it.

“Then they did a shitty job making a copy.” He grumbled, he had dealt with this before when he attempted to make a copy for Kurogiri, and it wouldn’t work either. He bent down to the ground and started scrapping the key against the ground wearing it down a little.

“Are you trying to dig your way in? What the hell…” The guy laughed loudly and Shigaraki tried his best to ignore him. When he felt it was enough, he stood back up and the key went in the lock with ease he held his breath as he turned it and it worked! It worked!

“There asshole!” He turned to glare at the guy, but his eyes were closed, and he looked like he was leaning against the wall even more than he was a minute ago. “Hey, the door is open!” No response. Did he seriously fall asleep that quickly?! Now he was getting even more frustrated. He just spent precious time, that he could have been working, to open this damn door and the guy passed right out against the wall. He should have just left him to begin with!

He turned to go back to his apartment but stopped short. He wanted so badly to leave the guy standing there, door wide open but the guilt would suffocate him all night long thinking of the what ifs. “Ugh!” He groaned and turned back around walking closer. “Hey, you. Get inside!” He grabbed the guys arm and shook him getting a small response mainly just a grunt. “Come on!” He tried to drag him, but he stumbled right into him almost causing him to fall to the ground. “Asshole!” He hardly caught himself and now the guy was leaning against him resting his head on his shoulder. He did not like this closeness at all he felt like he would start to suffocate. Quickly taking a step towards the door he tried dragging the guy inside once more. He was desperate to get him in the door so he could just drop him on the carpet and run.

“Oh, we’re moving now…” He heard the grumble and the guy started picking his feet up just a little to help the process and finally they were inside. “Couch is…there…”

He was supposed to take him to the couch? Did he not understand how uncomfortable this whole process was?! Shigaraki turned his head to look where the couch was and quickly started walking dragging him with him, once he was close enough, he shoved him off watching him fall right into the cushions. He expected the guy to scream or open his eyes, some type of response but he got nothing.

“Asshole, such an asshole.” He hissed and turned to leave, making his way to the door he heard a voice call out making him freeze in place for a moment.

“Thanks…kitty cat.”

Shigaraki was done, he grabbed the door and slammed it loudly behind him quickly going back to his own apartment. He swore to himself if he ever laid eyes on that guy again, he would decay his face off, he hated him. Hated him.
