The CEO and his Husband

Summary:

Kim Dokja scowled and finally let out an exasperated sigh, “If everyone must know, I’m married to Yoo Joonghyuk.”

“EHHHH?!!”

The crowd simultaneously gasped and looked at Kim Dokja with wide eyes.

“No way! The CEO?”

“Yeah right!”

“Kim Dokja with that scary guy?!”

CEO Yoo Joonghyuk was known as the most unapproachable man in the office. How could someone so bright and normal like Kim Dokja end up with Yoo Joonghyuk?

Work Text:

It was just a normal day at Minosoft. Kim Dokja was entering data for the fifth straight hour and his fingers began to feel numb. He flipped through some papers and checked the data on the computer. Ugh, what a monotonous job. Where was a distraction when he needed one?

“Ooooh Kim Dokja! Who’s the lucky person?”

Ah, ask and you shall receive. Kim Dokja looked up from his work to see his neighboring coworker leering at him. He tilted his head confused. “Excuse me?”

The coworker pointed at Kim Dokja’s left hand. “Don’t deny it! I see it shining all the way from the other side of the room.”

“Eh?” Kim Dokja followed his coworker’s finger to see what he was gesturing to and immediately blushed. “O-Oh.”

“Sooooo~”

Kim Dokja snorted. He returned to his paperwork and pretended to read the documents on his desk. The coworker scooted closer to Kim Dokja and began to poke the younger man on the shoulder.

“Aw, come on Kim Dokja. Can I at least get a hint?”

Kim Dokja brushed off the man’s offending finger. He had better things to focus on. “You already know him,” mumbled Kim Dokja.

The coworker’s smile only widened, getting more into Kim Dokja’s personal space bubble, “No way!! Who?!”

The outburst attracted more neighboring coworkers and soon there was a small crowd surrounding Kim Dokja’s cubicle. They all began to guess who Kim Dokja’s lucky fiancée possibly was.

“Is it Ji-Woo from accounting?”

A lot of dismissive laughs came from the crowd. “Nah, she’s out of Kim Dokja’s league. It has to be Sangah. I’ve seen them eat lunch a couple of times.”

“Yoo Sangah? Kim Dokja doesn’t deserve her.”

“Who else is available in the office?”

Kim Dokja massaged his temples to relieve his oncoming headache. He regretted asking for a distraction. “Can you guys just leave me alone? I’m trying to get my work done.”

Kim Dokja’s neighboring coworker elbowed him in the side, causing Kim Dokja to let out a small yelp. “Not until you tell us who you got hitched to. C’mon, tell us. We’re all curious.”

Rolling his eyes, Kim Dokja crossed his arms. “I’ve been married for a while.”

The crowd became silent as they digested the information.

“EH?!”

“No way!”

“Liar!”

Kim Dokja’s blush returned as he looked away from the surprised crowd. “Y-Yeah. I just didn’t wear my ring because I thought it would get in the way of work.” He also didn’t want anyone prying into his personal affairs.

From the side of the crowd, a coworker whispered, “Maybe Kim Dokja doesn’t wear his ring because he picks up women at bars.”

Kim Dokja wasn’t deaf. He immediately threw the nearest thing he could find on his desk, which was his stapler. He aimed the stapler at the gossiper. “I would never!”

“Kidding kidding!”

“Maybe Kim Dokja is a gold-digger…”

Kim Dokja bit his lip. He knew this would happen…

Of course a person like him could never end up with someone like Yoo Joonghyuk.

It must have been an ironic twist of fate as Yoo Joonghyuk walked through the department. Kim Dokja saw the tall, dark haired man and waved.

“Hello Joonghyuk-ah! I’m taking my break in five minutes.”

To Kim Dokja, Yoo Joonghyuk gave a small, curt nod. He noticed the frown on Kim Dokja’s face and only raised an eyebrow. Kim Dokja shook his head. Noticing his coworkers’ silence, Kim Dokja grinned and blew Yoo Joonghyuk a small kiss. Yoo Joonghyuk smirked and did a little ‘catch’ action with his hand, pocketing the kiss into his suit pocket. Kim Dokja blushed and covered his face with his hands, not expecting Yoo Joonghyuk to actually play along.

As for everyone else…

While Kim Dokja was recovering from his embarrassment, the crowd around Kim Dokja received a glare from the stoic executive. They instantly backed away from Kim Dokja’s cubicle.

One stubborn coworker wasn’t fazed by Yoo Joonghyuk’s glare and leaned closer to Kim Dokja’s shoulder. “S-So Kim Dokja, how did you propose to that scary guy?”

“Oh, um…” Kim Dokja’s blush darkened and a smile graced his lips, “Yoo Joonghyuk was the one who proposed to me.”

“Haha very funny. Now seriously, how’d you do it?”

Kim Dokja pouted. “Yoo Joonghyuk proposed! Seriously.” He closed his eyes as he reminisced about the scene.  “It was very romantic. He was even a little shy. When he kneeled down and asked me to be his companion for life, I knew the only thing I could say was yes.”

The coworker had a disturbed look on his face. There was no way that was true. As he was about to retort, Yoo Joonghyuk walked over. The crowd parted for the tall man. Yoo Joonghyuk stood beside Kim Dokja and kept a protective hand over Kim Dokja’s shoulder.

“Are they bothering you Dokja?”

Kim Dokja let out a small chuckle as he shook his head. “No, they’re just joking around with me. They can’t believe that you were the one to propose to me.”

Yoo Joonghyuk’s expression hardened, scaring everyone except Kim Dokja.

"Yes, I proposed to Kim Dokja," Yoo Joonghyuk said as he glared menacingly at Kim Dokja's poor coworkers, "I knew he was meant to be mine."

Kim Dokja eagerly nodded beside Yoo Joonghyuk. "See! See! I told you guys."

Everyone gave each other uneasy looks as Kim Dokja stood up to take Yoo Joonghyuk’s hands.

“I’ll see everyone after my lunch break!”

Kim Dokja led Yoo Joonghyuk away as Yoo Joonghyuk gave the crowd one final glare as a warning.

Everyone understood.

He’s mine. Stay away.

“Hey Joonghyuk-ah?”

Yoo Joonghyuk, who was chewing his noodles, paused to nod at Kim Dokja. Kim Dokja was looking thoughtfully at his wedding ring. He looked into his reflection that was casted off the gem on the band.

“You told me to wear my ring out of nowhere.”

Yoo Joonghyuk nodded. He noticed some coworkers were getting too friendly with Kim Dokja and had to stake his claim.

“So...Where’s your wedding ring?” Kim Dokja asked, pointing at Yoo Joonghyuk’s empty left hand.

After swallowing a mouthful of food, Yoo Joonghyuk reached into his shirt to pull out a necklace. At the end of the chain was a golden band with several inlaid diamonds. Kim Dokja smiled at the sight.

“Good. You should wear it though.” Kim Dokja said with a sly smile. “I don’t want anymore misunderstandings coming up.”

“Anything for you.” Yoo Joonghyuk took the ring off of the chain and put it on his left ring finger. “I kept it off because it was hitting the keyboard too often.”

“Ahhh...I see.”

“So, what were you and your coworkers talking about?” Yoo Joonghyuk heard some of the conversation, but not all of it.

Kim Dokja’s smile dimmed. “For some reason, they couldn’t believe that we were married…” He stared fondly at the golden ring on his finger. “Sometimes, I can’t believe it either.”

Noticing the change in tone, Yoo Joonghyuk focused on Kim Dokja's face.“What’s wrong?” Yoo Joonghyuk took Kim Dokja’s left hand and held it. “Tell me.”

“N-Nothing.”

Yoo Joonghyuk brought Kim Dokja’s hand to his lips and planted a kiss on Kim Dokja’s knuckles. “Are you having those stupid thoughts of not deserving me again?”

“No…” Kim Dokja lied as he stared pointedly away from his husband.

Yoo Joonghyuk’s eyes narrowed at the small pout on Kim Dokja’s lips and he snorted. “You’re a terrible liar.”

Kim Dokja’s eyes swept over Yoo Joonghyuk’s face. The CEO was giving him a determined look that was hard to ignore. Kim Dokja couldn’t help but feel guilty. Ugh, why was he so weak to Yoo Joonghyuk?

He resigned himself and told the truth. “It’s hard to imagine a CEO dating a lowly worker such as myself.”

“Don’t call yourself ‘lowly’,” Yoo Joonghyuk criticized Kim Dokja, “You work just as hard as me. Your position never mattered.”

“Still…”

“Dokja, I love you for you. Please do not doubt that. No matter what.”

With a tiny smile on his lips, Kim Dokja relented. “Okay, okay.” He took his hand back and returned to eating his lunch. “No public displays of affection in the workplace. We might get written up.”

“I can change that rule you know.”

“Oh? Is the CEO about to abuse his power? I better report this to human resources.”

“I can replace all of human resources whenever I want.”

Kim Dokja covered his mouth to muffle his laughter. “You’re such a tyrant.”

“It’s worth it as long as you’re happy.”

Kim Dokja’s breath hitched and he lightly slapped Yoo Joonghyuk on the shoulder. “Stop saying sappy stuff like that.”

“No.”

Notes:

Yeah, they always take their lunch breaks together. Yoo Joonghyuk prepares both of their meals, even though he's rich enough to afford a chef.

Kim Dokja refuses every promotion because he feels he doesn't deserve one. He accepts pay raises though. Yoo Joonghyuk just wants an office closer to Kim Dokja.
