Work Text:

Glimmer felt like fae was going to cry. Fae'd been planning this for so long, and it felt like fae hadn't smiled in that whole time. Like fae'd never smile again, for some reason, even though things would be fine.

Right?

Glimmer breathed in softly, faer hands clammy.

Well, no matter what, today was the day. Right?

Wow, Glimmer was nervous, so, so nervous. Catra was a lesbian, and Glimmer was a woman, a proud one, a huge fucking feminist, not that boys and nonbinary people couldn't be, but fae was a woman. But would the pronouns- would Catra not...know that fae was still a girl?

Would she break up with faer?

Fuck.

Would Catra be mad?

Glimmer smoothed down faer sparkly skirt and entered the campus coffee shop. Fae saw Catra right away, sitting in a corner nursing a hot chocolate.

Fae saw her light up when she saw faer, and fae- fae didn't want that to be over, but fae wanted to be faer real self in front of faer girlfriend.

Glimmer smiled and walked over to her, sitting down across the table.

"Hey, Glimmer," Catra said. Glimmer was struck for what was probably the thousandth time that her voice was like honey, almost, smooth and sweet.

"Hi, Catra." Glimmer wiped faer hands on faer skirt again. Fae plowed on before they could get sucked into pleasantries. "Uh, so, Catra, I had something I wanted to ask you? I know you might be mad, but uh, I-"

Catra had a soft look in her eye, one that was reserved for just Glimmer. "What is it?"

"I- um, I think I want to try using different pronouns, uh, fae/faer. For a while, at least. Please don’t be mad, but, uh-" Glimmer was cut off by Catra's incredulous voice.

"Why would I be mad at you?"

"You’re- you're not?"

She smiled at faer. "Of course not. I love you, stupid."

Glimmer blushed. "I love you too, you know that. I- thank you, Catra."

She nodded, smiling. "I'll always support you. That's a promise."

Glimmer nodded. Fae was still shaky, but knowing faer girlfriend supported faer, would use faer pronouns, made things so much better. Glimmer hadn't even realized how much tension fae'd been feeling until it was gone.

Catra did that. Made everything better.

"I love you so much, Catra," Glimmer said.

Catra was already back to her pre-coming out self. "Yeah, yeah, you're okay, dummy."

Glimmer smiled.
