Work Text:

the tangerine thought for a moment, trying to think of something else, he wanted to make it a challenge for the other till his eyes lit up at the sudden new thought. he got up quickly, rushing to the window opening his curtains, frowning slightly with a sadden huff when he saw it was raining but that didn’t stop the kennedy for too long. the ginger closed the curtains, going back over to dave, straddling the aubergine boy. “well- since you taught me something today, i wanna teach you something!” he smiled, knowing exactly what he wanted to teach. the plan was perfect too for the aubergine to receive the kiss, also dealing with the orange with his small outbursts and sudden new ideas was gonna be something dave was gonna have to get used to.

"oh yeah, and what would that be sportsy? how to live without the love of my boyfriend?" the skinny minimum wage employee perked up, dave was willing to do anything to get a kiss, ANYTHING. the curious purp twirled a strand of his teasing boyfriend's fiery orange hair. jack rolled his eyes at dave’s over-exaggeration and snarky comment to him, he got off his lap once again, taking both of the aubergine’s stupid hands and pulled him to his feet. he felt really extra and unnecessary for his next action, but his backyard with flowers (well wet droopy flowers now) was certainly more romantic than the inside of his home.

the ginger didn’t even bother grabbing a coat or umbrella for the two of them, he just led the aubergine to his backyard in the slightly pouring rain with a wide smile. jack giggled and was really happy about this, him losing a bit of his self-control, he just really wanted to do this for a while now. the clementine led one of the eggplant’s hands to his waist, leaving the hand there as he put his own hand on dave’s damp shoulder, then interlaced their free hands together. jack had a bright smile as he laughed at how dumb the both of them must look right now.

“this is so extra, i know but this better than my stinky living room” he looked up at his boyfriend with wet hair, finding the sight of him adorable. “do you know how to slow dance?” he asked quietly. even if sportsy seemed out of his mind, davey trusted him completely. dave looked down at his now damp with rain old sport. the rain flattened and straightened out the lavender hair, but it just seemed to make jack's ginger mane even more gorgeous.

getting back to the main action though, dave had had no idea of knowing what it was that his darling lover wanted to teach him. but he certainly couldn't have guessed it would be slow dancing of all things. "uh, nope! never got around to learnin', always been more of a moonwalkin' man myself." he joked with an eye-roll. some of the raindrops that had fallen on the top of dave's head dripped onto Jack, but it was hardly noticeable as they were standing in the rain after all. "but is that what yer gonna teach me, old sport? I had no idea you's could dance!" He sounded extremely impressed with his boyfriend's newly unveiled skill.

jack got a bit flushed at the tone of dave’s voice, slightly laughing at the thought of dave moonwalking, finding the thought oddly hilarious but he pushed the thought away. “uh- no, i’m not a dancer-“ he let out a breathy chuckle, looking away a bit, reminiscing the memory. “i just know how to slow dance because my sister used to force me to learn it so i could slow dance with her stuff toys at her tea parties.” he sighed out but slowly shook his head. the tangerine used the hand on the aubergine’s shoulder to gently tilt dave’s head downwards so he could see their feet, the hand quickly returning to the shoulder. “ain’t that hard- just look at my feet” he mumbled, slowly stepping a foot back to see if dave could follow that move.

jack got to imagine dave moondancing, but dave got to imagine jack being an adorable big brother and slow dancing with dolls.

"awww, jack that's precious! ya gotta tell me more about these tea parties sometime!" the purp exclaimed. jack didn't talk about his family too much anymore, so the eggplant didn't know a lot about them like he did before. in fact dave wished his partner would open up more to him, but he remembered that honesty would need to be a two way street. the memey aubergine looked down at their feet and watched. after a second long delay, he mirrored the ginger man's movement.
miller was very focused at first, wanting to get the hang of it quickly so he could go back to looking at old sport's handsome facial features.

jack rolled his eyes, not sure if dave actually wanted to know about the tea parties, or just wanting to be nice and show interest. he didn’t want to bore the other with uninteresting facts about himself, part of the reason why jack never opened up anymore. “the tea parties just overall sucked, well the food.. she had an easy-baked oven, do you remember those? well anyways, she cooked from it and the cupcakes tasted like ass” he rambled a bit, making a slow partner for dave to follow as he did this.

even if it was girly and shit, dave was genuinely interested. he wouldn't mind knowing even the most miniscule or boring tidbits of his love's life. besides, he never had any siblings so he wanted to hear what it was like. “yeah, i think i've heard of those things, but i never had one. i had an easy bake hobo trash fire set growin' up as a kid." dave joked with a chuckle, still looking down and copying jack's movements. the tangerine in the little pattern, added in a little twirl for himself, laughing a bit as he finished his small twirl. “watch me slip and fall by doing this” he chuckled.

jack then showed the steps again to dave, “if this is too much we can just sway side to side-“ he mumbled, gazing into the aubergine’s eyes. "no no, i got this jack.." dave only used jack's real name sparingly, but it meant something significant when he did. dight now it just meant that he felt extremely close to the other man. not just physically as they were dancing, but emotionally as the clementine talked about himself and the two made each other laugh. it was a really nice, warm scene that made dave ignore their drizzley surroundings. while studying the feet movement, he got a glimpse of old sport looking right at him. it caused him to pause for a second and stare back into those wide eyes right back.

dave tried the simple little twirl for himself and felt he did okay. he looked back at jack for approval. "how'd i do? did that little spin i treated ya too knock ya socks off?" it was a tiny move but ehh why not celebrate learning the little things?

the tangerine watched the aubergine’s adorable spin, just wanting to knock him off his feet to litter every part of him in kisses and love bites. in this very moment, it did feel a bit like a hallmark movie to jack, two idiots in the rain slow dancing but he was grateful for this. “that was perfect-“ he murmured quietly and quickly, gently taking dave’s face into his hands and kissing him, which the rain made it feel really nice and special. he made it last as long as it could last, not wanting to suffocate the two of them. which he pulled away then acted like nothing happened, returning his hands to their previous positions.

“you are learning really quickly!” he hummed, smiling like a dumb idiot due to the kiss, “dancing helps reduce stress, ya know?” he spat out a random fact.
