Work Text:
Sun light beamed into the window through the curtains. With a groan Hawks reluctantly opened his eyes, allowing his eyesight to focus on his surroundings. It took a few seconds to process that wherever he was it wasn't his home. Much less his room that he was currently in.
In a panic he shot up out of bed but it soon proved to be a mistake to sit up so quickly. A splitting headache kept him glued to the bed until it dulled enough for him to manage to stand up on his own.
Taking a moment to look around he could tell he was definitely in a woman's bedroom, which did not help ease his worries. With no recollection of how he got here much less who he spent the night with. But considering the blistering headache paired with the light nausea, he assumed alcohol was involved in this equation. Looking at the time the clock read 12:46pm. 'Yup definitely alcohol'. He thought to himself.
He thought it was strange that he woke up completely clothed except for his jacket. But then again this had never happened to him before. Even though his looks and charm gave him the assumed reputation of a partying bad boy. Hawks liked to be in his own company most of the time. He even preferred it. It was just his luck that his one fall from grace landed him here and he desperately hoped this wouldn't come to bite him in the ass later.
When he heard what sounded like someone rummaging around the kitchen he decided he might as well go out there and see if he could piece together what happened last night. He took a moment to get into 'character' and walked out of the room with the confidence of a college frat boy.
...
When Ame heard the door to her room open she turned around to see Pro Hero Hawks leaning against the wall with a smirk on his face looking at her. She was confused at first as to why he was leaning against the wall looking at her like some kind of snack. But after silently looking him over she assumed he was leaning on the wall for support, noticing how he didn't look like he had much strength for balance right now.
"See something you like?" Hawks said with a grin but she could hear the uncomfortable tone in his voice.
It wasn't until he spoke that she realized she had been staring at him without saying a word. "Uh, morning... well afternoon ha. How are you feeling?" She asked, a bit embarrassed she hadn't said a word till now.
"Well if I'm honest I feel like someone showed me a good night but I'm sad I can't remember"
'Ah so he doesn't remember'. Ame chuckled and turned to grab a glass of water "Go ahead and sit down and I'll fill you in" she suggested.
He nodded and as he went to take a seat at her small dining table he noticed a folded blanket and pillow off to the side on the couch. 'Had she slept on the couch?' He wondered.
She handed him the glass before taking a seat across from him. He thanked her then took a few gulps before setting the glass down on the table in front of him. They sat in silence for a few moments while they both tried to process what to say next.
Hawks took a moment to look at the woman in front of him. Trying to get the ball rolling, Hawks leaned forward to rest his elbow on the table and rested his cheek on the palm of his hand. "So... last night?"
"Right...so uh, I guess I should start by saying that we didn't..uh..do anything. I slept on my couch" Ame said awkwardly. Hawks visibly looked relieved by this, but now it brought up more questions. If not that then why was he here? "So then what happened?" he asked with a raised eyebrow.
...
-Last Night-
It was 1am, another late night for Ame at the diner, but it was just about closing time and she looked forward to being able to go home. But before she could get too excited she heard the familiar ding of someone walking in through the front door. It was always annoying when someone came in just before closing, but her train of thought stopped dead in their tracks when she saw none other than Pro Hero Hawks himself. He had his head down and just took a seat at one of the booths. Looking at him closely she could tell he looked exhausted. 'Probably had a long day' she thought to herself.
She made her way to the booth he was sitting at with pen and pad in hand. "What can I get for you sir?"
"Just a drink would be nice, anything is fine as long as it's strong" he replied.
Ame nodded and went to the back and grabbed a bottle of the good stuff and a glass.
When she came back he thanked her for the drink and started downing the bottle itself.
She was about to leave him until he called out to her.
"Hey mind sitting with me?" he asked looking up at her for the first time. His eyes looked dull and sad.
She hadn't expected him to ask her to sit with him. 'Was it appropriate to do that?' He did ask but she was technically still on the clock.
Her aching feet convinced her it would be fine so she walked back and sat across from the famous Pro Hero.
While he drank he spoke about how his days lately were shit and he just wanted an escape, if only just for one night. Feeling bad for him, Ame didn't have the heart to kick him out even if it was well past closing. She figured since he was a hero risking his life everyday to keep citizens like her safe, the least she could do was let him have his escape.
The night went on and she eventually needed to wrap things up and close up the diner. Hawks was noticeably intoxicated but seemed functional enough to walk and speak. He stuck around while she locked up and offered to walk her home since it was because of him she was out so late.
When they arrived at her place Hawks tried to take off into the sky but couldn't get higher than 3 feet off the ground before gravity brought him crashing back down.
For a moment Ame didn't know what to do but she ultimately decided to bring him inside her apartment. Which seemed to be the best option. He had been sick all night so she took care of him the best she could and let him rest in her bed when exhaustion finally took over his body.
...
When she was done explaining what had happened Hawks looked at her in shock. He cleared his throat feeling a bit awkward after being retold the events of him making a fool of himself the previous night "Ah well, I kinda feel bad now. But thanks, I'm sure there were better things you would have rather been doing than taking care of a drunken stranger."
Ame shrugged. "Well normally I don't think I would have done that but... I understand the feeling of needing to escape the real world even if it's only for a moment. Oh and don't worry I wont tell anyone about this."
Hawks smiled at her comment. He was glad he was lucky enough to at least be left to the hands of someone who was kind...Though it didn't help the increasing amount of shame and guilt he felt.
"Well thanks again. I'll be on my way and get out of your space."
Ame nodded and walked over to her closet. She took out his jacket and handed it over to him. "You'll be needing this back then," she said. He smiled at her warmly and took it from her, putting it on. Not wanting to test from a 3 story building if he could fly yet he decided it was best to take the normal way down.
Ame walked him out but before they parted ways he turned and called out to her "Hey, let me repay you one of these days if we ever bump into each other again" he suggested. Ame smiled at him and nodded "I wouldn't mind that". He grinned at her answer and waved goodbye before flying off.
...
3 weeks had passed by and Hawks couldn't get the girl out of his mind. He hadn't even asked for her name and he couldn't remember for the life of him where her work place was. He did know where she lived but he felt it would be creepy to show up at her apartment unannounced when he's already caused her nothing but trouble. He figured it was probably best to leave whether they crossed paths again up to fate.
For Ame, it had been another difficult week. Work was both emotionally and physically draining. All she looked forward to anymore was sleep and it was making her depressed. She often thought back to when the winged hero had shown up. It was odd how that night was the most excitement she had experienced in a while. Even if it was under unusual circumstances.
That night when she got off of work instead of heading home Ame decided to take a walk around the hero's agency. 'Maybe if I'm lucky I'll run into him again' she thought to herself.
...
Another late night of patrolling was done. Feeling too tired to fly at the moment Hawks decided on walking to his favorite food stand to regain some energy before going home. On his way there he noticed the familiar face of the girl from weeks before. She had caught sight of him too and waved happily at him.
"And here I thought you were avoiding me" She said with a cheeky grin.
"Not intentionally I swear. But I'm glad to see you. What's got you out so late?"
Ame shrugged her shoulders.
"Just wanted to take a walk"
"Near my agency?"
"Oh is that where I am? I didn't notice" she said playfully.
He hummed, amused at her sarcasm. "Are you in need of an escape by any chance?"
Ame sighed then nodded
"I could use an escape"
"Well I do owe you one. I was just about to head to my favorite food place. Wanna come?"
"Will there be alcohol involved?" She teased with a raised eyebrow.
Hawks shook his head "I think I've done enough drinking for a while"
She nodded in acknowledgment "Lead the way then."
...
It was the middle of the night and Ame couldn't seem to fall asleep to save her life. Frustrated she decided to grab her phone and at least entertain herself while she waited for her insomnia to go away, but at that moment she had received a text.
Bird Boy 🐣:
Hey kid you awake?
Ame:
Ugh stop calling me that
I'm not a kid 😝
Bird Boy 🐣:
Aw but I just love your
reaction to it 😁
So is that a yes to you
being awake?
Ame:
Nope I'm sound asleep 😴
Bird Boy 🐣:
Oh good I thought I was
interrupting something
important
Ame:
I hate you😈
Bird Boy 🐣:
You love me 😘
Come spend time with me?
Ame:
You could have just said
you're lonely ya know
Bird Boy 🐣:
Have you ever known
me to be that straightforward?
Ame:
Nope lol
On my way
Ame walked up to the roof of her apartment where a certain bird brain got into the habit of coming to when he was free. Sure enough there he was dangling his feet off the roof of the building, sitting close to the edge.
"Didn't your mom ever warn you not to sit too close to the edge" She teased
"Why have caution when you've got wings" He smirked lightly flapping his large wings
She rolled her eyes at him and sat down next to him. It had been almost a year since they had properly gotten to know each other and since then they both found comfort in each other's company.
"Couldn't sleep again?"
Ame shook her head in defeat "Though you're not exactly aiding me in my attempts to fall asleep"
"Did you want a lullaby kid?"
She rolled her eyes and bumped his shoulder with hers playfully.
"Shut up"
Hawks chuckled softly.
His playful expression relaxed as he smiled at her.
"Well I actually had a reason for coming this time, I wanted to ask you something that I thought would be best to do in person."
"Yeah? What's on your mind?" She asked sitting up straight to look at him better.
"Would you like to come with me to the Hero's Gala?"
Ame wasn't sure what he was gonna ask but she hadn't expected that of all things.
"The Hero's Gala? As in the biggest celebration in all of Japan. With all the top heros in the country...that Heros Gala?" She asked in disbelief.
"No the Hero's Gala that's in Mrs. Yuus basement. Yes the fancy as fuck gala!"
"Uh...well yeah sure I'll come with you. I'll have to buy something nice to wear though." As she was thinking in her head of what she'd need to look presentable a new question clicked in her head.
"Hawks...is this like...a date?"
For an agonizing moment there was nothing but silence on his part as he pondered his response. Ame could tell from his facial expressions he was nervous. But he gathered the courage he needed and looked up at her.
"Yeah...it's like a date. If that's okay with you"
Now it was Ames turn to sit in silence pondering what possibly to say next. She looked down at her hands resting on her lap trying to calm her increasing heart rate.
"That's okay with me" she said quietly
Hawks let out a sigh of relief he didn't realize he was holding in and stood up.
"Well I'm honored to have you accompany me as my date"
He stood at the very edge of the roof and gave a cheeky smile
"Get some rest kid, you'll need it" he said with a wink before freefalling backwards off the roof then taking off into the sky.
Ame shook her head at his teasing then made her way back to her apartment to attempt to get some sleep.
...
"Shit shit shit I'm running late!" Ame frantically ran to grab the keys to her apartment and bolted out the door. She cursed herself for letting the time slip away from her but to her luck she made it to the gala just in time.
Hawks wasn't able to accompany her inside since while this was a social event, security was very strict on who can enter when and at what time. She had finally made it to the entrance and after giving her name to the greeter she was now standing in the most popular party in all of Japan.
Ame was caught up in the amazing decor and room full of well known heros that she hadn't noticed someone sneaking up behind her.
"Don't you look lovely" she heard someone whisper in her ear.
Ame felt a chill go down her spin and jumped back. Looking behind her only to see her friend crouched over laughing at her reaction.
"Hawks! Don't do that, you scared me!" She grumbled.
After calming down, he took a deep breath.
"Sorry Ame I couldn't help it"
He took her hand in his, lifting it up to his lips and lightly kissed her hand while maintaining eye contact.
"You really do look lovely though" he said with a warm smile.
Ame couldn't help the blush that dusted her cheeks and she sighed not being able to stay angry at him.
"You look great too" she said looking him over.
He gave her a devilish smirk and stretched out his wings in pride "Why thank you Ms. Izumi"
Ame chuckled at his sarcastic formality.
The two shared a moment of blissful silence. Admiring each other and being too nervous to speak. Hawks cleared his throat and looked over at the bar.
"Would you like a drink?" He offered.
Feeling a drink would help calm her nerves she nodded and they both walked to the bar to order some drinks.
...
The alcohol was helping calm her nerves. After some announcements and the dinner provided the dance floor finally opened up. With the liquid courage she had, Ame took Hawks hand without a word and dragged him to the dance floor. Getting the hint Hawks smiled and gladly let her drag them both to the dance floor.
It didn't take long for them to get into the rhythm of the music. They focused on jamming out to the music and having a fun time.
Soon enough a slow more romantic song came on. The pros with spouses and significant others came in to enjoy the music with their partners. Ame was about to leave the dance floor but she felt Hawks take her hand keeping her from leaving. She looked back at him confused but he just smiled at her.
"Ame.. could I have this dance?"
There was a vulnerability in his voice she'd only heard once or twice. She could feel her heart begin to beat faster and her cheeks heat up.
"Yeah, I'd like that" she said softly
Hawks brought Ame closer to him and guided her hand to his shoulder before adjusting his hand to hold her hip. As the music continued he gracefully lead her through the dance floor in tune with the melody of the song. Lost in each other, everyone else around them seemed to have disappeared. In that moment all they cared about was each other.
Without a word Hawks moved his hands to Ames hips and before she could question why he lifted her up and softly flew them up in the air. Not too far from the ground but far enough they were fully above the crowd. Eyes were on them now as Hawks continued to dance with Ame in the air making sure to support her weight as he led her through the air as if she could walk on it.
Even though it was a shock to suddenly be lifted into the air Ame trusted him to keep her safe, so she went along with it. The song eventually ended and he slowly brought them back down to the ground.
Once on the ground Hawks took Ames hand and led her away from the crowd. As much as she wondered where they were going she didn't say a word and just followed. They stopped in a secluded area and Hawks turned to look at Ame. He had a grin on his face and you rolled your eyes.
"You don't have to put on that act with me you know"
"What act kid?"
"The 'confident and charming Pro Hero Hawks' act. You don't have to hide behind the person people believe you are. At least not with me"
He chuckled softly and looked down at the ground.
"That never really worked that well on you anyway".
"Nope, besides I've spent enough time with you to know when you got stuff on that bird brain of yours."
He chuckled at the comment but suddenly looked nervous and avoided her gaze prefering to look at the ground.
"Hey you okay? What's wrong?" She asked worriedly.
He stayed silent trying to gather his thoughts.
"I'm just...debating"
"Debating what?"
He didn't say anything past that. Not wanting to give away what was going on in his mind.
Ame was going to lean against the wall across from him but he held onto her hand tightly, afraid she was going to leave.
A bit startled she looked back at him. "Hawks?"
"Don't go..." he said softly. It almost sounded like he was begging her.
"I wasn't I was just-" she was cut off by Hawks pulling her into his arms holding her tight in a sweet embrace.
She slowly wrapped her arms around him and softly ran her fingers through the back of his hair. He enclosed them both in his wings wanting to shield the world away from them.
"Ame..."
"Yeah?"
"Wanna come over to my place?"
Since the beginning of their friendship Hawks had never once invited her to hangout at his place and while she could think of a few reasons why it was a surprise to suddenly be invited.
"I'd like that"
As soon as she confirmed it was okay he held her tight and spread out his wings taking off into the sky. It wasn't a long flight and they quickly arrived at his home.
He showed her around and held her hand the entire time while doing so. Ame looked out the window amazed you could see most of the city from his home. Hawks stood behind her and held her against him from behind.
"You mean so much to me you know... I don't ever want to lose you"
Ame softly rubbed her fingers against his arms that held her close to him
She turned her head to look at him but was surprised to find Hawks face only inches from hers. He inched closer to her, his forehead touching hers. His eyes silently asking permission.
"Hawks..."
"Keigo"
He said suddenly.
"What?"
"That's my name, Keigo Takami. I want you to call me that from now on"
Ame nodded "Keigo... I like it"
Ame closed the gap between them. Sharing their first kiss. He turned her to face him and softly pressed her against the wall. Their kiss grew deeper and more passionate. Her hand traveled up his back to his wings and rub where his wings and back connected.
She felt his body shiver at her touch which caused him to kiss her deeper with more desire and she kept pace. He picked her up, wrapping her legs around his waist before he carried her to bed.
...
Ame slowly woke up. She had expected to be at home in her bed but instead the face of a sleeping bird boy was what she woke up to.
She smiled to herself adjusting herself to be closer to him. He could feel her move causing Keigo to wake up.
"Sorry did I wake you?"
"Don't worry about it," he said with a smile. She giggled softly as he kissed her forehead.
"It kinda feels like the first time we met. Except I'm the one in your bed and significantly less hung over"
"You'll never let me live that down huh"
"Not as long as I'm around"
"Well if that's the case, mind sticking around for a while?"
"I wouldn't mind that"
"Good"
He nuzzled his face into the crook of her neck and lightly peppered it with soft kisses making her giggle at the ticklish sensation.
"I want you to stay"
Said Keigo in a soft voice just barely above a whisper.
Ame smiled to herself and gently ran her fingers through Keigo's soft fluffy hair.
"I'll stay as long as you want me to"
Keigo was silent for a moment before asking.
"What if that were forever?"
"Then I look forward to seeing you more often"
