Chapter Text
"Hey! Quit shoving, you're gonna mess up my scales!" Roman's whine goes ignored as Remus slams into his side again as he carries his own catch back to their Mountainous cave.
The twins didn't go hunting together at the same time very often, mind you. It was always quite common for them to end in bickering, like now. "Ah, quit your sobbing, Ro! We're almost back anyways!" The green dragon flies up ahead, quite literally. The water still dripping from his enormous fish landing directly on his red counterpart.
Said counterpart clearly not appreciating the fishy shower. "Ugh! Don't fly over me, you're getting me wet!"
Remus looks down past the fish and flashes his onyx teeth at his twin. "Do ya promise?" Shimmying his eyebrows to really sell home what he's implying.
There's a moment of confusion on Roman's face as he tries to piece together what he means. His embarrassment and frustration flaring again, smoke starting to spill from his lips. "Oh, my GAWD! You are the WORST!"
Remus would have cackled the rest of the way home if he didn't feel Roman's fire from his screeching roasting his meal. "Oi! Watch it, you know I hate cooked meat!" The ledge to their home being within grabbing range allowing Remus to land momentarily before turning around and smacking Roman with his catch.
The red dragon snorts colorful smoke from his nose with a small growl bubbling in his throat and an increased grip on his wooly catch. "Okay, that does it!" Is the only warning Remus has before he gets slammed by Roman's horned Sheep.
The two quickly devolve to nipping and tossing each other around like temperamental kits. Their actions being halted when they hear a rock clanking against the cave floor, despite the part of the cave they're in not having any loose rocks large enough to make the noise. The two scrambled away from each other only to stay absolutely still with their ears perked up. They soon hear the sound of tearing paper and giggling. Young Giggling on top of that. The two look at each other before going further into the cave, looking through their entire cave system.
"Yo, Roman! Any luck?!" He ignores Roman's glass-shattering shriek and the sudden clattering and just waits for a response.
Roman stumbles into the main room from around one of the tunnels. "No, but I think I landed on one of your fish skeletons." He strains out before stretching his back out.
There's more tearing and baby laughter which gets Remus to huff in frustration, black smoke peaking out of his nose in the process. "Okay, this is getting so dumb. where the hell could that noise be coming from?!"
Roman puts his clawed hands on his hips, rolling his eyes. "well, did you check the other cave entrance?"
Remus takes an inhale to complain, that 'yeah I did', only to halt and think for a moment. "...You mean the cave opening with the village in view?" Roman nods, "uh... no, I didn't."
Roman lets out a groan as he grabs Remus's tail and drags him there himself, Remus sputtering out excuses as they go.
Once they arrive, they see a small baby sitting by the entrance in a basket, ripping up a sheet of paper whilst cackling in the process. Roman gasps out in surprise at the small youth while Remus gags at the sight, which gets the baby's attention. The three stare at each other for a moment. A moment too long for the baby, however, as he begins to lean out towards the two. The basket begins to tip the more the little guy leans, the baby making noises to try grabbing their attention instead.
When the little guy actually began to fall over, they both reach out to catch him, their arms tangled as they hold the little guy up. "Aw! he's wearing an oversized ivory tunic!" Roman cooed, happy pink smoke blowing out of his nose.
Remus bolts back inside, dramatically flailing about as he rushes back inside. "Ew! Cuteness! The one thing I hate!"
The red one's ears flick up with realization. "We are so keeping him!"
His brother screeches from deep inside.
"Rememeber what Dad said, Remus! If any young are abandoned anywhere near your den, it's yours!"
Remus peaks his head around the corner, "I thought he said to not play with our food!"
the tunnel is silent for a moment as Roman enters their giving quarters. "...well, yeah he did. but he also said the first thing."
Remus shrugs as he heads towards his sleeping quarters. "Eh, you have fun with that. Imma take my fish to my room and enjoy myself."
The baby looks at Remus's retreating figure before looking back up at Roman. "...Trust me, little treasure. You don't want to know."
