Work Text:

Right. Left. Breathe. In through the nose, out through the mouth.

The monster was right behind him.

Left. Right.

He fell.

He tried to keep his sword in his hand but when he hit the floor the monster knocked it out.

He tried to get up, but the monster put its hoof on his back.

It laughed.

“Hey, dipshit! Leave the poor guy alone!”

He barely looked up, then the monster turned to dust.

“Hey, dude are you ok? I saw you a few blocks back with that thing chasing you.”

He tried to gasp for breath, but it burned.

Then darkness consumed him.

It was bright, and he didn’t even have his eyes open yet.

“...I dunno Jake, I hope he makes it through.” He recognized the voice. Vaguely.

“Aw does the little fire pit have a crush on the stranger.”

“I do not.”

He felt the darkness coming for him, and he went calmly.

“Hi, I’m Sapnap.”

He sent a side glance, then turned his head. It had been a few weeks since he had been taken to ‘Camp half-blood’, whatever that was. And only a few days since he was awake, and a few hours of wandering.

“I’m George. Thank you for saving me that day. I owe you big time.”

“Nah man it’s ok. I was just helping out a fellow demigod.”

A grin split through his face. He felt like he either made the best or worst mistake of his life.

Left. Right. Left. Right.

He couldn’t trip.

In through the nose, out the mouth.

He had to get out.

Sapnap was there, trying to hold the closing door open for him.

He wasn’t going to make it.

“Sap!”

He looked in his direction, tears streaking down his face.

“Go! Help the others! I won’t make it! I’ll hold them off!”

And with that, he stopped and held his sword. For possibly, the last time.

“You can’t make me leave you. I didn’t on the first time I met you and I’m not doing it now.”

He whipped his head to his side, to see Sapnap there, holding his sword.

“Sap.”

He knew this would be the last time. He pulled him into a kiss.

“I love you Sapnap.”

“I love you too George. Now, let’s kick some monster ass, yeah?”

They had never worked together more seamlessly.
