the quirk homogenuous theory relies on the idea that, rather than branching out and gaining new abilities, all quirks will eventually get to one final point. the issue with this is that it's been proven fucking wrong!!! quirks are relatively new considering the world's existence but rather than focus on that, i want to focus on how they've already evolved. quirks that are stock-pilers gain new abilities with each pass of a generation, things like mixing quirks creating over billions of possibilities in one person. rather than become homogeneous like people think, quirks will evolve until we can't understand them and their abilities begin to break bodies. it's highly illogical to assume something as diverse and complex as quirks can be boiled down to something as simple as them slowly becoming the same. even if everyone had kids with someone of the same quirk, we'd see irregularities that showed up due to past generations amongst other things!!

Izuku felt his nausea hit him as he tugged his fingers, quietly slipping into the 1-B dorms. It was one thing to talk to his new 'friends' (were they his friends? would they still be if they knew it was him?) online, but this was different. He'd meet them. He'd meet them in real life and ramble until they told him to shut up and then send him home. He was on the verge of tears as the elevator opened, and there they stood.
Tetsutetsu seemed to be in deep conversation with... a cat? Izuku isn't going to ask. Kendou and Shinsou seem to be talking about something on the couch, from where their brightly coloured hair was, and then. And then.
There was Monoma, staring right at him.
He was quick to stop the elevator closing again, quickly walking out of it to avoid it closing and going down. They stood in silence for a minute, before Monoma's voice broke though.
"Bunny?"
"..Hi, copycat," Izuku replied, soft and scared for what might come.
Instead of what he expected, Monoma seemed to contemplate this, before nodding resolutely.
"Okay, if it's you, I'm fine with that."
"...Huh?"
"You're one of the tolerable ones of your class, so it's fine," Monoma replied, moving to grab his wrist.
Izuku felt dumbfounded, but a feeling of warm, genuine joy filled his chest. Monoma wasn't going to drop their friendship because he was him. He was quick to follow, being placed between Monoma and Shinsou as Monoma sat beside him. He wouldn't admit that the close proximity was comforting, he didn't get much physical affection from anyone outside of his mom, and he hadn't seen her in a good minute. So, perhaps, he did just lean in a little. Just a little bit too far.
If Monoma was bothered by it, he didn't seem to really show it, instead letting Izuku slightly press into him. Cuddle, if Shinsou's abrupt whisper to Kendou told him anything. He felt his face heat up, but he didn't have the energy to really care right now. He was tired, and he wanted to relax, and Monoma was relaxing.
"So.. you told your class to fuck off huh?" Shinsou spoke then, turning towards the two.
"Not the entire class just... my friend group," Izuku replied, rubbing the back of his neck awkwardly.
"Badass. Can we see?"
"Oh yeah," Izuku nodded, handing over his phone casually.
As both Shinsou and Kendou looked through his messages with his friends, he saw their faces twist and turn in ways that he didn't think was possible for those two. Shinsou's scrunched nose and furrowed brow made him look like an angry cat, and Kendou's frown mixed with her raised eyebrow was oddly comedic looking. He hardly noticed Monoma resting his arm around him, seeming to watch his friends interact with the phone.
"Dude, full offense, your friends are dicks," Kendou spoke then, earning a squawk of surprise from Izuku.
"No, no! It's okay! They're just--"
"Bro," Tetsutetsu spoke then, leaning over his friends shoulders to read,"They asked you to stop 'distracting them from working with your muttering'? That's not a manly thing to do, bro."
"My muttering is pretty distracting.."
"They can ask politer," Monoma pointed out, frowning as he furrowed his brow. "They can use their hero words, y'know. They don't have to be fucking pricks."
"Yeah, and they questioned you on the fact you wanted to try wearing nail polish and a skirt? How are they gonna say that it 'isn't like you'?" Shinsou frowned then, obviously pissed off.
Izuku had no excuse for that one, even he knew that was a bad one. He looked down at his lap, twiddling his thumbs for a moment as he rested his head against Monoma's shoulder. He was tired of the way they acted, truth be told. Tired of constantly putting on this facade that he was the sunshine boy.
"Y'know what, you're not going back to your dorms," Kendou stated, moving to get up. Handing the phone back, Izuku felt his confusion come to his face as he tilted his head, obvious confusion in what she was saying. "If they're gonna be dicks like that, then you're staying here. I'll get Vlad to let Aizawa know."
"I-it's okay, I don't wanna be a burden--"
"You're never a burden, Midobro!"
"Yeah, dumbass, we like you."
"You're not awful."
Izuku felt his eyes well up, sure he had friends, but in that moment he trusted them. He had people he trusted with his secret, with the knowledge he was quirkless, and he felt okay. They weren't looking down on him, and he was so, so happy. He sniffled, rubbing his eyes as they all seemed to soften, moving to hug him close. He was okay, and he was with friends.
"So... do I wanna ask?" the voice of Vlad King broke the group's hug session, earning Midoriya jumping as he looked over.
"Midoriya's friends are assholes, we're keeping him here for tonight," Kendou spoke then, resolute but polite in her words. It wasn't a question either, anyone in the room would note.
"Alright, alright, I'll let Aizawa know. We can talk about it in the morning," Vlad let out a huff, but from the fond way he spoke, he was obviously proud of his kids for taking care of one of 1-A's. Especially when he noted Monoma keeping a tight arm around Izuku, offering a slight smile as he turned.
"Me and the bros will go get some stuff, let's sleep out here for tonight!" Tetsu called, grinning widely as he tugged Shinsou and Kendou along, who happily followed.
Monoma looked towards Izuku, raising a brow as he watched the shorter. Truth be told, he hadn't exactly thought about Izuku being Bunny, but he guessed it made sense. A painful amount of sense, actually. He wanted to punch someone for that fact, but instead he just leaned into the couch and let out a breath. He was pissed off at Izuku's friends, but he didn't want to take his anger out on the green haired teen.
"So.."
"So?"
"Thanks, Monoma."
"For what?"
"I dunno, everything? I feel like the past few weeks.. past month? Has been so comfortable. More comfortable than I really thought it could be," Izuku replied, resting against the blonde once more.
"I always said 1-B is better, didn't I?"
"You were totally right."
Monoma felt vaguely floored by that as he looked at Izuku. Out of the entire class, besides maybe Bakugou but even then he doubted it, he never expected Izuku of all people to admit to disliking his class. Or at least some of his class. It was an odd sensation, a mix of pride and some sort of happiness filling him. He reminded himself that it was simply because someone from 1-A admitted that 1-B was better, but he knew he was lying to himself.
And if that entire night was spent with Monoma keeping himself close to Izuku, well, no one but his friends had to know.
