"Grandpa! Grandpa!" cried the two children.
"Tell us about Grandma!" asked Lee Gilyoung as Shin Yoosung hugged Bihyung, the little pet of the house. She ran her hand through the white fur while staring with starry eyes at the old man.
In this family atmosphere, Yoo Joonghyuk recalled Kim Dokja’ story and, in particular, the day of his disappearance.
This incident had happened on one of Joonghyuk's birthdays. The reader had arranged everything. The garlands swayed gently as the king of the party walked across the room, nobly and nonchalantly. His scarred face was expressionless but not disinterested.
Applause rang out as he entered, accompanied by traditional singing. Then Dokja came out of the kitchen and brought the cake which was shaped like a sunfish. But it was not the cake Joonghyuk was devouring: it was his companion that he was gazing at so avidly as if it were the last crumb on a starved man's plate. Perhaps it was his cooking outfit that attracted him so much? Surely it was that; it was seeing him dressed differently. It was not the mere presence of this idiot that aroused him so much.
So, charmed by the sight, Joonghyuk let himself be carried away by the atmosphere and followed Dokja's directions. After blowing out the candles and removing them from the cream, he moved closer to the table for the so-called photo. Suddenly Dokja's slender, alabaster fingers slid down Joonghyuk's neck and wrapped around the back of his nape.
And then the ugly squid's fate was sealed.
The regressor had no time to savour the soft sensation as an unsuspected force pushed him forward and his face crashed into the sweet foam. Laughter erupted and the clicking of the camera sounded.
Joonghyuk raised his cake-dripping head. Then he raised his large, powerful hand to Dokja's neck and began to strangle him.
Han Sooyoung soon joined her comrade in taking part in this prank and in giving Joonghyuk an equally tasteless gift.
The protagonist did not mention the moment when he killed his two idiots. The children settled for this version, but they didn't seem to mind; they were already focused on other things. They were tapping on the glass of the aquarium to try to get the attention of the squid who was splashing around happily. Then a few seconds later, the two children had disappeared, running off to play with Bihyung.
Joonghyuk looked at the small pool for the aquatic animal and smiled with satisfaction before taking one of the biscuits placed on the table, originally intended for the children.
Even in death, that idiot had a nasty habit of always being there. Even if he disappeared, everyone was looking for him. Even if he disappeared, everyone wanted to know more.
He closed his eyes to continue remembering his birthday and savoured the thrill that gripped his body as fingers brushed his skin and the sweet taste that invaded him.
