Work Text:

Confined to the depths of her wheelchair. For all of the sins, all of the pain she caused; this was God’s punishment for her. She would never move again. This was now her life.

The breeze brushed over her pale face as her mother wheeled her out onto to balcony.
She gazed upon the landscape. As she wrapped her black shawl tighter around herself, she thought about the view. The view which she could never explore ever again. Would never feel the long grass gliding through her fingertips.

As she reminisced about what she would never have, her mother treaded downstairs.
Alone.
Again.
Again.
No one would stand her anymore.

A car pulling up
The gate being opened
A man walking in
Him.
It was him.

——————

The beautiful bouquet of flowers held in his hands. Her mother came bustling outside with joy spread over her face. They had been looking for him. She needed him.

I wasn’t there
I’m here now.

Her mother hurried inside to retrieve her.
He looked up towards the balcony and that was when he saw her. That familiar face. Her eyes full of surprise and happiness. Captivating forest green gazing into his own chestnut brown.

And she smiled
And he smiled
He was here now.

——————

He was here now.
Her hand raised of it’s own accord. She tried to wave at him but the railing was in the way. He tried to pivot his head but it was no use.

Suddenly a wave of determination flew over her. A type of wave she had not felt for a long time.

She let go of the shawl. Her hands moved forwards, slim knuckles turning white as her hands clutched the railing. Cool steel against pale softness. She mustered up all of her strength.

And tried to lift herself up.
She tried
And tried
And tried
And just as it felt impossible

She did it.
She was standing.

Fresh relief flew over her face. A new found happiness. Her eyes found his.

——————

He had seen many beautiful things. But what he was seeing now was the most beautiful of them all.

But in a split second
It was snatched away.
She traveled downwards
Down
Down
Down

His eyes followed her all of the way. As an invisible force struck him in his place.

Thump.

Her mother ran to her.
It was no use.
The wind blew the shawl down to her. As if it needed to follow her. Even to the end.

The flowers fell out of his grasp
He turned around
And walked away

Beautiful flowers
Long forgotten.
