Work Text:

"In my own name and that of the Grand Narukami Shrine, I, Yae Miko, await your arrival."

The high priestess re-read the message once, twice—it did nothing to help shake the horrendous feeling, was this really worth it? Surely she wouldn't get to see this while locked up on her own head. The puppet wouldn't even glance at it. Was this just a product of her wishful thinking again?

She scoffed

Most likely, but she didn't particularly care. Not at the moment anyway. Maybe this letter put on a public tabloid with a second meaning would get to her as her prayers did not.

She'll re-read it one more time, just to be sure.

"It is "companionship" that gives "eternity" meaning."

For five centuries she has been praying for the electro archon, foolishly thinking that there would be an answer. To think that the same kagemusha that gave her a Narukami favor would come back once again, embrace her with that shy smile, and share a dango under the thunder sakura while the stars glowed and she would say those dammed words under the moonlight's glow. Yae Miko realized once again how truly lonely she was.

"The past may have been cruel, but the future shall be longer still."

The death of Makoto had been the breaking point of Ei just as Saiguu's had been for her, the perishing of the original electro archon went unnoticed by most citizens of Inazuma who slept soundly while a raging thunderstorm happened both in the island and the broken woman.

"It is alright to harbor inescapable hurts, for in this life, no one is forever alone"

A frown

For mortal lives this was a fact, but an immortal one is condemned to be alone.

The deaths of Sasayuri, Chiyo, Saiguu and Makoto weighed hard on them both. She coped with the company of alcohol and overwork.

The pressure on Ei was horrendous. From the emotional turmoil to the leading of a nation, she started experimenting—creating prototypes and tests for the perfect puppet. It would become a way to reach eternity for herself. And thus began creating the plane of Euthymia.

"Aren't you afraid that I might just sell this off?" She joked while feeling the Gnosis on her hand. It resembled the king of a chess piece and its purple glow reminded her of the archon's eyes.

"You understand the value of a Gnosis. Even if you sold it, I trust that you would have exchanged it for something of equal value, and that is no easy price to pay." I could see a disheartening sadness in her eyes.

"Well, this is your idea, not mine. Don't end up regretting this, now." She felt the dread, and after Ei left the shrine realization kicked in, but she denied it, with all her will she tried.

Then the Shogun was created.

Oh how she hated that thing. Made from her image, ways of thinking, her battling techniques and her path to eternity, but she could never replace her, she did not have that smile, that shine in her eyes, her laughter or that feeling she irradiated even while slaying gods.

She did not say goodbye.

"In my own name and that of the Grand Narukami Shrine, I, Yae Miko, await your arrival."

Even after all this time, no matter how irritated and upset she might be, the fox envoy waits, seeking to see once more the one she professed an eternity of loyalty and love.

I hope that this wishful message gets to you as this is the will of my eternal love.
