Work Text:

Hannah Dixon lived in a small town in Kentucky. Hannah was sixteen and 5’5, with brown hair, blue eyes, and olive skin. Hannah liked to run so it wasn’t a surprise when she left her house to go running. It was five o’clock, October 31, 1989, when she knocked on her best friend’s door.

Jeff Stewart was 5’3, he had black hair with purple bangs, brown eyes, and tan skin. He liked his free time, but when his best friend was knocking on his door to go running he had no choice but to get up.

“Come on, Jeff,” Hannah called out. Jeff sighed, typical of Hannah. He opened the door to a hyper Hannah.

“I’m here, now what?” He asked, leaning against the door frame. He knew why she was here but he didn’t want to go running at five in the afternoon. Hannah sighed and grabbed his hand and pulled him out of his house. Jeff scrambled to close the door and get his shoes on with her pulling on him.

They had been running along the woods near their town for about an hour when Jeff asked to take a break. While Jeff was trying to catch his breath, Hannah walked in a circle.

“Can you hurry it up?” She asked. Jeff just looked at her as he sat down on the ground.

“If you expect me to run with you, you have to wait for me.” When he was about to say something else, he was cut off by a growl. Jeff and Hannah looked at each other then at the woods that were right next to them. They stood still, then Jeff just started running into the woods.

“Jeff!” Hannah called out, chasing after him.

They ran for about thirty minutes before Jeff came to a stop.

“Where are we?” He asked. The night was black all around them as Hannah and Jeff tried to see where they were.

“Great, we’re lost,” Hannah said.

“I wouldn’t say lost. We just got off the path.” Jeff counted.

“Same thing, and we were never on a path.” Hannah sighed. They started walking where they came from which was the most logical thing to do according to Jeff.

After walking several minutes they came to a stop, “Are you sure you know where we are going?” Hannah asked for the third time.

“Yes, I’m pretty sure,” Jeff answered.

“Well pretty sure and sure are two different things.”

“Whatever.” When they were about to continue walking they heard footsteps and leaves crunching. Hannah and Jeff shared a look. They both saw bright red eyes in the distance Hannah grabbed onto Jeff, not wanting to know what those eyes belong to.

“Jeff!” Hannah squeaked out with barely any sound. Jeff either ignored her or didn’t hear because he continued to walk towards whatever it was. He reached out a hand and before he knew it Hannah pulled him away right as teeth snapped right where he was standing moments before.

Hannah and Jeff were now trying to get as far as possible from whatever was chasing them. Both of them had several cuts from low branches and sweat was running down their backs as they ran.

“Jeff!? Why would you run towards it?” Hannah asked as she ducked a branch.

“Oh, I’m sorry!” Jeff yelled back, in a sassy tone. “I didn't think that would happen!”

“That’s the thing, you never think!”

“Well, neither do you!”

They continued to run until they couldn’t run anymore. They stayed quiet as much as possible to see if they could hear it. After a while, Hannah sighed and leaned into a tree. Her brown hair was out of her ponytail that was in before they started running away from the thing. She fixed it as she started at the other kid.

“So what now?” She asked. Jeff didn’t answer. “Jeff? Jeffrey?” Jeffrey!”

“‘Oh! Sorry, what?” He asked.

“What now?” Hannah asked.

“We keep going-” He was cut off by leaves crunching. Hannah rushed to get up when it got louder. Jeff and Hannah started to retreat just then the thing lunged out at the closest one, which was Hannah. Jeff grabbed her just as the sharp teeth of the thing chomped down right where Hannah was standing. They started running while the thing was distracted from trying to find Hannah and where she went. They ran for several minutes before they thought it was safe to stop.

“I want to know what is with that thing trying to eat us?” Hannah asked.

“We’ll worry about that later, but for now we need to keep moving,” Jeff said.

After what seemed to be an hour they found a cottage in the middle of the woods. Hannah and Jeff were deciding if they should go in when there was a growl behind them. They decided that it was best if they went in there and hid. Not knowing that two red eyes were watching them, along with a villainous smile.

Should I add another chapter or should I leave the way it is?
