Work Text:

At this point, Gladio was still uncertain of what Ignis was talking about as he went into intricate detail about the properties of each knife in this cutlery set that was available for sale in the hardware store. They had only decided to drop by to see if they had a particular shade of paint, as Ignis decided that the kitchen required some tender love and care.

However, the paint was all but forgotten as Ignis walked up the aisle where the cutlery was kept and saw this set of kitchen knives for sale. The handles were handcrafted and the blades shone brighter than diamonds. Each knife served a different purpose and Ignis knew those purposes like the back of his hand.

And given how long Ignis has been speaking about knives, smiling as he handles each blade and shows off the incredible craftsmanship, Gladio should be an expert too. However, he can't hear anything Ignis is saying because he is too transfixed by the smile on his face and the excited gleam in his eye. To Gladio, a knife is a knife. However, to Ignis they are something completely different, something Gladio cannot even begin to comprehend.

He grins broadly as he picks up a box and places them in the trolly they were using.

And if Gladio was uncertain about buying a set of knives before, witnessing the soft, somewhat shocked expression cross Ignis's face as he saw Gladio do this just cemented the idea.

Didn't Ignis realise by how that Gladio would do anything to keep that flustered and excited look on his face? If buying a set of kitchen knives did that, then it was money well spent.

Gladio was as smitten with Ignis now as he had been years before. Every time Ignis smiled at him, the butterflies in his chest would flutter and his heart would speed up. Some times he still couldn't believe that Ignis was his - his husband and partner for life. It made him grin like a dork every time he thought about it.

"Really?" Ignis asked, biting his lip in a way that made Gladio's insides jump around. "Thank you."

And it was again.

That smile.

Gladio's smile.

"For you, anything."
