They may not have been able to give him everything, but they tried. The day Vernon came home a little different, they knew. They were more than okay with it, because he seemed so much happier in the way he carried himself. Even if his Alpha was a little strong handed, and weird. Their Vernon was happy and coming around with those cute kids. The tall boy and the pretty girl, occasionally the sheriff’s son.
They would always remember the smile on his face, the upbeat drumming of his fingers against the kitchen counter.
He was Happy.

The day that the Hale kid, and the Sheriff’s son showed up on their doorstep, soaked from the knees down, and tears in their eyes. Broke their hearts. Hale did not make a sound much less speak. It was Stilinski’s son, who told them what happened. The silence afterwards was so thick, almost suffocating.
“Did you get who did it?"
The small voice of their youngest pipped up from behind the sofa. Simon. How anyone had missed him just sitting there. Tapping fingers against the floor.
Looking at the two young men standing in front of them, they did not know if the answer would make them feel better or worse.
