Galaxy’s Heroes Host Marriage Ceremony to Remember - Diana Allers, Alliance News Network
After years of war and rebuilding, the Galaxy was greeted with a beautiful sight this afternoon.
In the expansive park not far from the Systems Alliance headquarters in Vancouver was the marriage ceremony of Captain Adrain Shepard and Major Kaidan Alenko.
The ceremony, the couple explained, was not something they had planned on doing. However, urging from Alenko's family and the lack of blessings the couple had received - one of many wedding traditions from Alenko’s family’s culture - made the couple rethink their original stance.
"My mother was very cross with us when she found out we eloped," Alenko told the Alliance News Network with a grin, not long before the ceremony began. "There were a lot of traditions, both cultural and familial, that we ended up ignoring to elope as we did."
When asked if he regretted getting eloped, Alenko replied, "not at all. I'm glad I married Adrian when I did. If nothing else, he's said it motivated him to come back to me, for him to keep fighting. That's something I'll never regret, but I'm glad that we get to have this ceremony now."
There wasn't a dry eye in the crowd when the pair walked down the aisle one at a time, Alenko led by his mother Lee Alenko, and Shepard led by Admiral David Anderson, who has been a mentor and father to Shepard since he was 17.
Their vows were short, and before long, they were sliding matching titanium rings on each other's fingers and sealing the ceremony with a kiss to the cheers and applause of their friends and family.
And now on the anniversary of the attack on Eden Prime five years ago, the attack that served as the first look into the war that followed, the Galaxy has gotten to witness the first significant sign of healing.
