Chapter Text

It was a new day, and 24-year-old Anya Forger was ready for her job as a diplomat, but her real work began at night when she was on missions for O.W.L. and protecting peaceful relations between East and West.

She came to her workplace early. Everyone at the Ostania and Westalis Political Relations Center (OWPRC) greeted her, some were sincere, many others were not. But the thoughts of her coworkers weren't what worried her, it was her mission tonight that she should be prepared for.

―Ms. Forger, good morning. ―A coworker said, but he thought "again this unbearable woman, because she works here anyway"

―Good morning, Lawrence, another day to work and try harder and harder. ―She gave him her familiar smile, that she meant "out of my way"

Lawrence just walked away from her. It was normal that people in her work envied her for having a short but successful diplomatic career, of course she had the advantage of reading people's minds and knowing what to say and do to achieve political agreements. Every day she had to listen to hundreds of lies and come up with a way for everyone to be satisfied, it was exhausting work.

By the end of the day, she was looking forward to the announcement of her next mission. For that she went to a small cafe called “Ostanias’s Delights”, which was a cover for an OWL operations center.

―The usual, Ms. Forger. ―The waitress said while she served her a cup of tea.

Anya picked up the cup to see her mission written in fine print. She then dropped the cup to the floor, breaking it to pieces and then she left. Agent Chimera had a mission to accomplish.

Damian wasn't sure what he was doing with his life, now less than ever. Ever since his family nearly fell into disgrace years ago, he had only had one priority on his mind: getting the Desmond name respected again. His father had entrusted him and his brother with that they should pursue a political career and reach higher than him. That was when a series of accusations and scandals forced him to retire from politics.

The young Desmond had graduated with honors from Eden Academy and from the best university in Ostania, he was prepared to make his father proud, but there was a problem, the last name Desmond, which was previously synonymous with prestige, is now surrounded by mistrust and shame. Damian had a good and stable job, but they would not let him advance in the position, he would never have what he was looking for, he could not even help his people and make a better country. Or so he believed until he met Sylvia Sherwood, a member of the Westalis embassy, who approached him with an implausible proposal.

After days of meditating on it, he had the answer.

―I will, I am willing to join your…. Organization. -. He said very sure.

―Splendid, Mr. Desmond, I hope you take into consideration everything I warned you about this job offer.

―Yes, I do. I will be a spy.

….

It was a quiet night in Berlint, Agent Chimera made sure of that. She alone had defeated a small terrorist group and deactivated the bomb in time, she discovered which cable she had to cut to avoid the explosion, well actually she read the mind of the bomb maker who was begging for her to cut the wrong cable and the bomb exploded in the face of the woman who a few minutes ago had beaten him and his friends.

Anya left that warehouse where the terrorists were hiding and looked at the night sky, a few minutes later the other OWL agents came to clean up the scene. Then she left the place.

Anya calmly walked to a park where she sat next to a person reading a newspaper.

―Another successful mission, Chimera. ―Handler said and put his newspaper down to look the agent in the eye. “I was hoping you were relieved or even happy about your success.

―I am, I just control my emotions during missions, Twilight taught me that. She sighed. - Every day I have to deal with lies disguised with smiles and the continual secrets, deceptions and potentially deadly mysteries.

―That's how politics and espionage are, you knew that when you enlisted for this. Besides, you are very good at this.

Of course, she was good at it, she can read minds, but that was a secret from almost everyone including her boss, only her parents (and Bond) knew about it, and they would never tell anyone, they had sworn it by their lives.

―Yes, I know, these months have been intense, that's all. And tell me how is the potential recruit doing?

―He accepted this afternoon, now he is under your supervision.

―Well, I'll take care of it. ― Anya said with a small smile.

….

Damian was nervous, he didn't really know what to expect, he had agreed to become an intelligence agent, a spy, for a joint organization of Ostania and Westalis, that decades ago would be crazy, it still was. But he was determined to protect the country from him, even if it forced him to work for the west as well. Now he was outside an old phone booth, Handler's instructions said nothing more than to enter that narrow place.

As soon as he entered and closed the door behind him, the entire place slid through a compartment to an underground floor. “This is definitely insane”, Damian thought.

As soon as that strange elevator stopped, he was able to get out and now he was in what appeared to be a meetinghouse, but no one in sight.

―Mr. Desmond, I'm glad he accepted our offer. Handler said when he suddenly appeared.

―Yes, well I made a deal with you, I'm here for my country that's all.

Handler almost winced at that, the young man still has a lot to learn about life, but she decided to ignore him for this time.

- You start right now, you already have a quality education, but you will have to train your mind and body to support what it means to be a spy. Agent Nightfall would prepare you psychologically for this, and your new partner and mentor Agent Chimera will physically train you for missions in the field. Your code name will be Griffin.

―Before we begin, what can you tell me about Agent Chimera? I'm going to work with her, so I need to know what kind of person she is.

―She is one of our best agents, as soon as she learned that we intended to recruit you, she conducted the investigation of your background in addition to your current relationships and affiliations. My advice with is follow her instincts, she was trained by our best agent.

Handler led the new agent down a hallway to a meeting room that had a projector and a table for many files.

―Wait here, Chimera will come to see you in a moment she will explain everything to you.

-It's okay-. Damian said quietly.

It was in those moments waiting for the agent that he noticed the files on the table, all of them were about him and his family, information about his college degree in political relations, his banking information and even his Eden Academy grades. Among those documents was the photo of the first day of classes at the academy. His parents were not with him that day, he was alone in that photo among dozens of proud families.

Damian sighed. Now he would never have the recognition of his father, he would be an anonymous person whose triumphs would not be recognized by anyone, but if that is what he had to do to avoid a war so be it.

The door suddenly opened, Damian turned to see the agent and then froze. In front of him is her old classmate, Anya Forger who now wore a suit but still used the same accessories on her pink hair as when they were children.

"That expression you have now is priceless, Damian," she said with a giggle. ―But now we must focus on what is important, I am Agent Chimera and I welcome you to O.W.L.
