Chapter Text

Raon doesn’t care about the past, or who his human used to be. His human was his human! Rather than the vessel, the soul dwelling on it is what mattered.

Raon would love and care for his weak human, even if he woke up one day as a potato– hopefully he would turn into an apple pie, though; they were prettier and way more delicious!

Raon was great and mighty, so he knew an outward shell was just that.

However, Raon was also a curious being. He knew that his human was his human, obviously, but one day his curious mind couldn’t help but wonder: what about the other guy?

Were his human and the missing person similar enough? After all, Lemon Gramps and Kind Beacrox couldn’t tell the difference, and they were suuper observant!

As for the Count– ah, Duke, right. Raon didn’t know him that much, but he caught onto his human plan of playing dead once, so why couldn’t he tell the difference?

Of course, Raon didn’t want the Duke to notice at this point in time, since it would put his human in an awkward spot! But! But…

It was kind of… sad.

Disappearing one day without a trace, and no one noticing, not even your parents. Raon would be really sad if this happened to his human, his hyung, his noona, his goldie gramps or anyone from his family! He would destroy the world right there and then!

So, in a rare day in which it was just the two of them, Raon carefully put a noise-concealing barrier in the room and cried:

“Human!”

“Hn?” Cale peered at him lazily from his rocking chair, like a cat in the midst of sunbathing.

Raon flopped onto his lap, carefully! Because his human was weaker than a dry branch in winter.

“What was the other soul like?” He inquired. “Was he really trash?”

“... why do you ask?”

“I’m curious!” Raon proclaimed mightily. Then, tilted his head, unsure. “Can’t I?”

“Of course you can.” His human’s hand rested on his head, as if to tell the silly thoughts to fly away. Raon allowed himself to be petted. “That guy, well… I don’t know much, but I talked to him once.”

“Really?!” Bright blue eyes grew even bigger in size.

He definitely did not expect this! At best, Raon hoped for a hypothesis based on what Cale already knew; after all, his human was the smartest —but also the dumbest— of all, so if someone would be able to piece it together, it’d be him.

“Yeah, in my dreams.” Cale said. “Actually, I guess it was the God of Death’s work, since dreaming and death are somewhat similar. It was because of him that I knew where to find the Ancient Power that gave me a hint to finish the White Bastard.”

Raon’s wings fluttered open in surprise. What was that? He didn’t know that, either! That other guy, wasn’t he kinda gre– cool?!

“So he was a good guy!”

Cale couldn’t understand what had gotten into the young black dragon, but he was happy to see the child acting his age, even if it was about a strange topic.

“He didn’t look the part, though.”

Raon eyed his human from head to toe, excitement replaced by an unimpressed look.

“Well, you don’t look like a good person at first glance, too! That means you’re both similar, human!”

For the first time in a while, Cale was left speechless.

That evening, Raon wished goodnight to his hyung, his noona and his human and thought to himself.

‘Thank you for helping my human, other guy! Because of you, our family and home was protected, so, um– I’m a great and mighty dragon! And I’ll live for a long, loong time! So don’t be sad, wherever you’re now, I’ll remember you! Promise!’

It was a bit sad that Raon couldn’t tell the person himself, but it couldn’t be helped! If he could, he would.

This innocent way of thinking was the catalyst of what followed.

Notes:

I have no excuses, I just want OG!Cale to get love.
