Work Text:
It was the day of the sorting and one Sirius had been anticipating for the last five years, maybe even more so than Regulus who was the one doing the actual sorting. Both boys knew where Regulus should belong and both boys knew where he was going to go instead.
And maybe both of them wished they could do something to change that.
Everyone's eyes were on the first years and the headmaster who was standing next to the hat that would determine the next few years for the new students. But there were two sets of grey eyes set on the youngest Black only.
Regulus was waiting near the back of the group. Smaller than all of them, he would have been hard to notice if it wasn’t for the fact that in his hand he was holding another of which belonged to his most beloved friend Kreacher.
Kreacher, who was almost the same size as the tiny eleven year old, just a little shorter. To be fair Kreacher was quite tall for an elf and the incestous genes really hadn’t helped the poor boy with growth. He still had a few years left of growing, he hoped it would be worth the wait.
Finally after the same speech just shifted around each year, Dumbledore started calling up the first year student. And with a last name like Black, Regulus was one of the first few to go.
“Regulus Black.”
It was quiet.
Regulus couldn't see his brother from where he was standing hoping for some form of encouragement to ease his nerves.
Several of the students looked around waiting for Regulus to reach the seat where he was to be sorted. But from the point of view of the rest of the school they saw a small shy boy struggling to pass even one student in order to reach the front.
It didn’t take long for the murmurs to start, questions flying about what was going on.
And then Kreacher had to start, loudly declaring “Kreacher must pass, Master must be sorted.” With that, the elf levitated the student out of his way, helping clear the way so Regulus could reach the front.
It got quiet again, with at least five students hanging upside down in the air like balloons, before the murmurs started back up again.
Regulus turned to Kreacher with a small smile, “Thank you, Kreacher,” squeezing his hand in affection. “You’re the best,” Fully understanding that his intentions were good, he was only trying to help Regulus, truly.
“Tis my honour Master, thank yous for yous kind words” Kreacher bowed his head up and down repeatedly.
Regulus nervously walked up the steps, having to leave Kreacher with the other students and took a seat on the chair provided.
“Quiet. We will proceed as soon as you would be so kind as to return our student back to the ground,” Dumbledore said, the last half directed at the Black’s family elf.
Kreacher snapped his fingers, floating the children back to where they were standing previously, waiting in anticipation for Regulus to finally put on the sorting hat.
And thus became the beginning of one of the longest hat stalls in the history of the school.
Hogwarts was a big school, and the only reason Kreacher was able to come was on the agreement between the headmaster and his parents that Kreacher was to work with the other elves while he was there. And Regulus was to only call on him while he was working if it was important. Luckily Kreacher spent all of his free time with Regulus including when it was time for him to sleep.
Otherwise, if you were to spot Regulus Black in the halls he was either holding onto the back of his older brother's robe or the hand of his older cousin Narcissa Black and if rumors were to be believed, soon to be Narcissa Malfoy.
With big grey eyes and an adorable stature all anyone wanted was to get near him. But the older Blacks were terrifying when they looked anyone down who tried to get near the innocent boy.
It was obvious he must have been sheltered from the amazed look in his eyes at absolutely everything his gaze caught. From the roaming animals to the amount of people in one place, many of the more simple things were new to the younger brother of the Black Heir.
And no one bothered to say anything when he didn’t understand that he couldn't just go sit on his brother's lap at the Gryffindor’s table. Or when he went to sleep in his brother's dorm room on nights Kreacher didn’t stay next to him.
And no one spoke up again about Kreacher only cooking Regulus specially made meals and treats, not since the last time someone had to face Narcissa Blacks wrath.
Many would think him to be spoiled, everything suggested so. But spending even a moment in his presence reaffirmed one thing when it came to Regulus Black.
He was a shy boy who hadn’t got to experience much outside of 12 Grimmauld Place.
His innocent questions proved that much.
One thing no one saw coming was the way the other Marauders took to having Regulus around. James had a soft spot for the Black brothers and it showed. Regulus would be seen on his shoulders down the hallway or on the back of his broom whenever he practiced for quidditch. Teaching the younger boy became something he looked forward to as Regulus became more eager to learn. The others made sure to keep an eye on him if they were in the same area. No one was willing to have the rest of them Blacks reign hell if the boy got so much as a scratch.
Remus was an only child with distant parents and having Regulus around made everyone realize he’s actually great with kids. He took to reading and teaching the little boy advanced things every evening while the others were busy with pranks or their late homework.
And Remus was the only one able to get away with calling him Reggie without the boy tearing up. It was common to see little baby Black holding the exceptionally tall boy's hand through the hallways whenever the others weren't around. Swinging gently as they head to the library to be tutored.
Which made the older Black brother more than a bit jealous for two completely different reasons.
Seventeen year old Sirius Black was more responsible than others had expected. He took to being an older brother as his name implied. Regulus seemed to have trouble making friends in his own year so Sirius made sure his little brother was never alone for too long. Even if he was busy and couldn't get to the little guy he knew he could trust James and Remus to spend time and take care of him.
He couldn't help but be worried about his brother after he graduates next year. He didn’t know anyone other than Hagrid and Kreacher that’ll be able to keep an eye on him. He needed a plan to make sure his brother would have great friends like his own to keep around.
Thus starts his planning
“He needs someone loyal and can keep him safe and-and can make sure that others won't bother him if Kreacher isn't around!” Sirius paced back and forth in his dorm taking the time to avoid the mess of clothes and junk courtesy of one James Potter. “He needs someone who won't leave him for the next best thing because they should already know that's him!”
Remus rolled his eyes at the protective behaviour, “Someone like you, I assume? Who exactly do you have in mind that would meet such a criteria? You shouldn’t get involved Sirius, you need to let him make friends at his own pace,”
Sirius gave Remus his most depressing and saddest pout, hoping the other would be able to help out. Remus couldn’t look away mesmerized by the sight, like he always was whenever he sees it.
James stood up from his bed in a jolt, an idea coming to mind, “What about the Prewett kid? Should be a year older than our Reg, I haven’t met him but Fabian and Gideon are good lads right? All we have to do is get them to meet and were good,”
Sirius jumped at James, “You're a genius, Prongs! That's perfect. We can just sit next to them during lunch and they’ll hit it off like it was meant to be! This is great now Reggie won’t be alone after we leave.”
Remus sighed not wanting to be the bearer of bad news, “Do either of you even know the kids name? Or where they would even be sitting? And just because the old Prewetts are good lads doesn’t mean the others are, ever met Molly she's a sure devil when pissed.”
Not wanting to relive the moment when the Marauders pranked her and Arthur during her last year.
Both bright boys deflated instantly hearing their voice of reason speaking, one pouting slightly again, “But Moony!” Sirius whined an instinct at this point whenever he heard Remus sigh and the sentences that followed.
“No he’s right, Pads, we gotta make it so that they think it was their idea. Sitting next to a random redhead makes it too obvious,” James countered, even if Remus’ whole point flew over his head. James waved his arms dramatically above his head and started to pace again mumbling to himself a new plan.
Because if there was anything James Potter was good at, it was coming out with foolproof plans.
Regulus likes to spend his free time away from classes and other students like his brother and his cousin, exploring the grounds of the school.
There are so many things he’s never seen before. Today he decided to visit the giant mass of water near the school. He’s never seen so much water outside of a bath.
Regulus toddled along the path, excited to do something new even if Kreacher wasn’t there to do it with him.
He passed the quidditch pitch to go to the side without others being around to disturb him.
And when he finally reached the lake,he looked at the sign in front of it called ‘Black Lake’. Does this mean the lake is ours? He thought giddily, all the more reason for him to explore it.
He nervously touched the water with his foot, the water soaked through his shoe all the way to his socks. Regulus giggled at the feeling, deciding to put both of his feet in the shallow water.
Regulus looked up, there was so much water and it was beautiful. Never before had he seen such a scene and he promised himself he’d always remember it.
He continued forward, eager to know what it would be like to feel the water all around him, slowly he sloshed through, until the ground he was walking on had a surprising dip and he was upto his neck under water.
Regulus bobbed up and down his excitement making him bounce around under the water. It was as if he was weightless, he could be like a fish now.
Regulus took a look around not seeing any fish before deciding to look under the water.
He spotted a small fish, not too far away and attempted to chase it hoping to bring a friend back to his dorm with him.
But he opened his mouth while moving forward onto a different, much deeper park of the lake.
And Regulus didn’t know how to swim.
He choked on the water filling his lungs and couldn’t figure out a way to move upwards back to the top. His best best was trying to go back to the shallow end and stand, but in his fear Regulus couldn’t move.
His biggest mistake was not telling his brother where he was going so he knew that there was a small possibility he was coming. But still how he wished his big brother would somehow know that Regulus needed his help. And he’d come running like he always would whenever Regulus asked him to.
He ended up drifting pretty far into the lake, his shoes and clothes still on, weighing him down even more.
Something grabbed a hold of him and lifted him up above the lake. He coughed up the water that was in his throat before looking around. He was gently being held on his side. He noticed the long purple tentacle that was holding him and followed it along to the big purple head of a giant squid.
He smiled gratefully, “Hello, I’m Regulus, Regulus Black.” He then points to the sign he saw before the beginning of the lake, “Thank you for rescuing me, it was a bit scary under there,”
The squid, somehow understanding the child nods and proceeds to place Regulus on his head.
From here everything looked different but still as breathtaking as it was on the ground. The giant squid didn’t talk, but he didn’t have to for Regulus to know he was a nice squid. They took a few laps around the lake, Regulus giggling and pointing at everything he’s never seen before.
When it started to get dark, the squid brought him back to where he took his first steps into the water. Back on the ground safely the squid took a few steps back waving a tentacle at the school next to them signaling to Regulus he better be going.
Smiling, he waved to say goodbye, turning to head to the school. When he took a chance to look back at the amazing creature he noticed it was still watching to make sure Regulus got to the school safely.
“Can I come back and see you again? I’d really like to spend time with you more,” He pulled at his soaked robe, shivering slightly. His tone shy but hopeful looking at the squid directly into its large eyes.
A large purple tentacle moved up and down in response, and if a squid could blush that was what was happening to the giant squid at that moment.
Regulus brightened, “Okay I’ll see you tomorrow!” He excitedly ran off back to his dorm to change out of his clothes.
A new friend!
And even after he got sick from his little adventure, his smile was just as bright.
“Okay so the younger Prewett is a git, we need to find another option, someone smart enough not to think our last name means we’re evil. Did you see the look on his face when Reggie sat next to him. What a complete tool. How could anyone not want to sit next to him? He's adorable!”
Sirius went off, still upset that Reggie sat next to that jerk and Remus instead of him. And he knows it’s because the other marauders thought he came off too strong and too protective but still he should've been next to him maybe then the other kid wouldn't had insulted Reggie with the weird accusations of loving the demon at the Black Lake, it was a myth for one and Reggie would never care about anything remotely evil. Except Kreacher, of course.
They were in the middle of pulling a prank on the entire lunch room. Something about turning certain seats into confetti if someone sat on it. Sirius was the only one standing around ranting and raging about the rude kid who should be honoured that Sirius even considered him to be Reggies friend.
“We get it! Can you please just wait until we’re back our room Pads, we’ll figure out someone better if you just hurry and help.” James exclaimed, exasperated from all the nonsense. They all had to listen to the same thing the whole day right after it happened.
Sirius threw his hands up, “Fine! You just don’t care about what’ll happen to my baby brother, is that it?” He stomped away to a random seat and started to jinx it, mumbling along the way how they’re the only child and they’ll never understand.
“It’s not that Sirius you know we love Regulus. But he’s old enough to do this on his own and getting involved would just make it harder for him,” Remus soothed, walking to Sirius and placing a hand on his shoulder. “It takes time to make important friends, he need to do it at his own pace,’’
Sirius dove into Remus’ chest wrapping his arms around him, he felt the hand fingering through his hair and the one on his waist in response. Completely ignoring the eyes rolling coming from James.
“I wish he had someone like you Moony, someone smart and kind and has absolutely perfect hugs,”
Remus blushed before softly setting his head against Sirius’. “Thanks Padfoot, I'm sure he’ll find the people he’s meant to spend Hogwarts with.”
“What about a Ravenclaw? Or a Hufflepuff, we’ve only been searching Gryffindor’s so far. I’d bet even finding someone on the Quidditch team would be easy too.”
Sirius jumped in Remus’s arms at the suggestion, his head smacking against the others. While Sirius completely ignored the throbbing to go to James in detail about some Hufflepuffs and Ravenclaws.
“What about Davies? I heard his brother is trying for their Quidditch team.”
“Nah, we need someone smart and good, like Moony. I doubt this guy’s both.”
“Corner? He seems alright, though I don’t think anyone knows much about him.”
“No, not doing that again. Gotta be someone we at least heard about, don't want a repeat of that last disaster.”
“I'm thinking Lockhart? He's a bit loud but maybe Regulus needs that to counter how shy he is. Are you gonna sit with them at lunch again? We could do something like go to the library I guess? But…”
“How about we go to the Ravenclaw versus Hufflepuff match and sit with him, but this time I’m next to Reg got it.’
Remus stood rubbing the part of his head that was in pain. Before sighing and continuing with their prank.
Good luck Regulus, Merlin, your brother is a complete nut.
It was raining out, so Regulus could only stay out with his lake friend for so long. It was another day where Kreacher had to work a little longer than normal so Regulus decided once again to explore the school, this time indoors.
He kept wondering until he ended up in a corridor without a single student in sight. Which was a harder feat than he had originally thought.
There wasn’t anything special about being here but when he entered the students had run right through terrified out of their minds.
Regulus didn’t mind though and continued forward.
He caught a shimmering light in the corner of his eye and turned to take a look. There stood or in this case floated a young woman completely grey and visibly upset.
“Hello,” He called out quietly, “My name is Regulus, who might you be?” His lessons on polite etiquette never strayed too far from him.
Her surprised eyes found his, for the Grey Lady has never known someone not to be afraid of her, especially one so young.
“I am Helena,” She said, not giving away anything even if he did intrigue her. “And what are you doing wandering around here?”
Regulus smiled, “I’m exploring, my big brother and his friends found so many hidden pathways I thought it would be fun to go on adventure too,” He then proceeds to tell her all about his new friend the Black Lakes Giant Squid and his good friend Kreacher the house elf.
Helena the ghost smiles softly at the kind young boy, who was eager to tell someone of his friends and stories. “Would you like me to show you something interesting then?”
He nodded quickly and followed her as she led him to the seventh floor to an empty wall. He looked at her expectantly not understanding what she was trying to show him.
“Move back and forth from this point here, and think of something you need, like a safe space or a secret room,” Helena pointed along for the tiny child and watched as he did as instructed.
Soon a door appeared and Regulus looked up at the ghost buzzing with excitement. “Look at the door! Can we go in? I wonder what's inside,”
Helena nodded and this time followed Regulus as he opened the door and stepped inside. And to both of their amazement and shock the room was a cosy room with every wall overflowing with books. Muggle books.
The door shut behind the both of them.
And Regulus took the time to explore the forbidden books he’d never gotten the chance to read before. Helena moved to hover near the comfortable looking couches before moving her gaze to the curious boy.
“Amazing, there's so many!” Regulus looked back at Helena, “Do you think we can read them? Back at home we weren’t allowed to touch anything made by muggles,” He whispered the last word out, she smiled encouragingly at him prompting him to put a few in his hands before sitting next to her.
“Can we read this one first,” Regulus always had read with his older brother and Kreacher never understood the idea of reading novels on his own before.
Helena didn’t mind, it had been a few decades since she had the opportunity to read a book properly, not being able to lift one herself. And the students year by year are getting more and more frightened of her.
“Of course, would you like to start us off?” Regulus shook his head, nervous about reading out loud from a book he didn’t know, “Very well, I will start then: The Princess Bride by William Goldman…”
“I can’t believe you punched him! Sirius! You can’t go fighting people just because they say something about your brother! Honestly, what are you trying to prove at this point? That no one can be his friend without worrying about you attacking them?”
“He said that Reggie was possessed by the Grey Lady! The Grey Lady, Prongs! What was I supposed to do? Just let him keep flapping his useless trap on lies? Do you know what Reggie would have done! He would have cried. I am not letting that toe-rag or anyone else make my baby brother shed a single tear. Over my dead body! I don’t care whose nose is broken, they deserved it!”
Sirius screamed back passionately, if there was any doubt about him being a good brother it went away. They were in the common room after serving detention for fighting against the Ravenclaws, who had misunderstood the reasoning for the brawl during the Quidditch match and the Gryffindors’ and the Ravenclaws battled in the stands while the game was still on.
Remus got in between the two best friends' argument, both sporting bruises that Madame Pompfrey said would heal on their own as they deserved what they got for their recklessness. Remus was doing a bit better than the both of them since no one was really interested in fighting him since he shot up another foot over the summer.
“Guys, will you calm down and not do this here please,” he pleaded, keeping track of who exactly was watching and eavesdropping on their conversation. “Let's go up to our room,”
“Fine. but you gotta tell him Moony, he’s wrong about this,” Sirius huffed and stomped his way upstairs with James reluctantly following after Remus raised his eyebrow expectantly.
When they were finally alone from prying eyes, Remus took a deep breath. The other two looked to him expectantly to help solve their issue.”Maybe it’s time to take a little break with this project Pads,”
He didn’t try to make eye contact knowing he would give in to the other within seconds.
“B-but we’re graduating soon! He needs to have someone watch his back in case those other shits bully him. Moons you’ve seen what they've been saying he’s not gonna have us here next year and they’ll eat him alive.” He picked at his bottom lip making it bleed.
Remus could barely look at him before forcing himself to stare at James. He was frowning and refused to talk, probably jealous but Remus wasn’t sure if it was because Sirius was giving his attention away or if it was because he didn’t have his very own adorable little Regulus. “We have a few weeks left, still it's our last year right? Let's make the most of it and take a break from this alright, we’ll help Regulus too just not at the expensence of our friends right? Padfoot? Prongs?”
“Fine.” They both answered. Before moving to their sides of the room furthest away from one another.
Whenever Regulus misses Kreacher he goes to the kitchens to watch him work. He’s met a lot of Kreacher’s new friends this way. Tinky was Kreacher’s close friend and she had a baby elf just before the school year started. Regulus likes holding him closely, he’s never held a baby before.
Over time all the elfs treat Regulus as close as the other elves, calling him Kreachers ‘little star’.
He’s happy he's not the youngest anymore and finally gets to be a big brother to someone.
Regulus was determined to give Tinky the best gift for her little baby, but he wasn’t sure what exactly was okay to give to elves.
So he went to Hagrid’s hut. Sirius always said if there was anyone who knew anything about creatures in this magical world it was best to go ask Hagrid since there's no way they’d ever meet old man Scamander.
Toddling along the path Regulus noticed Hagrid moving boxes around his house. The two made eye contact before smiling and waving at one another.
“Well hello, if it isn’t wee Black. Yer here for a visit? Not trying to get into any mischief like yer brother are ye? What can I do fer ya?” Hagrid stopped moving things to give the little first year his attention.
“I wanted to do something for Tinky and her baby but I wasn’t sure what to do. I was wondering if you knew what was a normal gift elves give for newborns,” Regulus was craning his neck looking up at the large kind man.
Not nervous since he knew Hagrid was always willing to help him find out if he didn’t know the answer.
Hagrid laughed, placing his hand gently on the young student's head before ruffling it. “Alright, alright. Lets see, I wers goin to go to to the forest ye see maybe we can see some friend of mine fer an ider or two, what do ye say?”
Regulus smiled and took his hand while Hagrid whistled with his other. And out from his home came a large lively black dog.
The dog ounded his way down the path to where Regulus and Hagrid were standing, sniffing at the newcomer. Regulus giggled and patted the dog on his head softly, “Hello, I’m Regulus, what's your name?”
Hagrid watched fondly before answering, “This here is Claw, he’s a good dog a bit on the large size I reckon, but he's a softly don't mind him,”
Regulus nodded happily being near his first real dog, “Like Sirius,’
Hagrid laughed, “Now don't go calling yer brother any names. Let’s go now before it gets dark, make sure to always be near me and Claw alright? Good.”
Into the forest there were so many animals coming to Hagrid to say hello, Regulus couldn't even name them and he definitely hadn't seen any of them before. He listened intently as Hagrid took the time to explain and name all of them.
And if Regulus squeezed Hagrids hand just a bit tighter every time he saw something new, Hagrid didn’t say anything about it, it's not like it hurt. And it was nice to see someone so interested in what he knew.
“You know, there are rumors that Reg is working in the kitchens,” James said after the Gryffindor’s quidditch practice, in their locker room.
“Yeah I heard that too. Probably that damn elf’s fault. For some stupid reason he thinks that Reg is his kid or something, I don’t know.” Sirius sighed heavily. “It's probably his fault Reggie is having such a hard time making friends,”
Sirius took off his quidditch gear, not bothering to shower before putting back his clothes. Waiting to shower when he goes back to his dorm instead.
James and Sirius walked back to Hogwarts together. Intending to meet up with Remus at the door.
“At this point I wish he just found a normal human person to be friends with. Anyone would do as long as he wasn’t alone with that damn wretched elf.”
“Are you gonna interfere again? One of these days Regulus is gonna find out about your behind the scenes interference,”
Sirius waved his concern away, “Nah, you see if there is one thing Reggie is, is oblivious especially when it comes to anyone having a reaction or an opinion on him. Self defense mechanism from all the gatherings our parents forced us to attend. It’ll go over his head even if you say it to his face,”
They spotted Remus by the entrance, waving embarrassingly as the two extroverts rushed over to him.
Regulus was finished playing his first quidditch match as his house’s seeker. He’d had to run back to his dorm to safely put away the new broom Narcissa had recently bought him as a congratulations for joining the team.
As he sped through the halls he noticed a blond girl, jumping up to try and reach for her wand that seemed to be stuck on one of the painting's frames.
“Do you need some help?” Regulus politely asked.
She turned to look at him, she was taller than him, but still short for him to realize they might be in the same year. The blue tie giving away which house she belonged to.
“If you don't mind, I’ve seemed to have misplaced my wand,” She pointed back to it. “I’m Pandora,”
Panda? Pandadora? Regulus had never heard of such a name. “I’m Regulus,” he answered before using his wand to cast a levitation spell bringing her wand right to her hands.
She smiled as she reached for her wand, thanking him as she does so,
“How did it get up there, Panda?” Regulus was curious by nature, he had never met anyone who didn’t have their wands close by.
Pandora looked at him confused before shaking her head staring at her wand, “Some people have a problem with my experiments thats all, it's no fault of theirs not being able to understand things outside of their comfort zone,”
Regulus looked at her in surprise and rapid interest, “Experiments? What do you do? Can I see?”
Pandora smiled happily that for the first time someone was interested in her passion, “I like creating spells and things like that, haven't been able to do much though. I did figure out how to change the colour of a person's nails but I heard that muggles already have devices for that. Never seen them though.”
Regulus brightened, “Wow, that's amazing. I've never heard of that, can you do mine?” He asked, sticking his hand out towards her.
She gently took a hold of it, raising her eyebrow “Anything specific you would like?” She brought her wand up getting ready to cast her very own spell on someone other than herself for the first time.
Regulus thought hard, he didn’t want any of the house colours, but he didn’t want white or black either.
“Purple.”
She mumbled her spelled before letting go of his hand, “That’ll stay for about a week and a bit, though I haven’t found a removal for it yet sorry,”
Regulus smiled admiring her work wiggling his fingers, “If I want it again can you do it again? It is beautiful.”
Her smile was as wide as his, “Of course! Shall we get going, it's time for dinner soon?”
Regulus was excited to show his nails to everyone. He looked at Panda happily, “Come sit with me, please!”
She nodded before they held onto each other's hands walking quickly to the dinner Regulus eager to show Sirius his new friend.
“You have to meet my other friends later, I’ll introduce you to Helena, Kreacher and Tinky, Hagrid and Claw, and Squidy.”
Pandora was more than confused by her new friend, he was definitely interesting and she hoped would continue to be. It was refreshing meeting someone that was different to everyone else. She knew this was probably someone who would change everything, and she was excited to see it happen.
She couldn’t wait to introduce him to her cat.
At dinner, Sirius placed his head on the table groaning. Regulus was sitting next to him chatting away with his new friend, petting her fluffy cat that was sitting between them.. James across the seat from him laughing amused at the first friend Regulus brought.
“I can’t believe this,” Sirius muttered to Remus, “Of all people, it's that weirdo everyone in Ravenclaw is avoiding,”
Remus smiled softly, equally as amused as James. After all of Sirius’ hard work to meddle, Regulus found a friend on his own just like he thought. Even if there are rumours of her killing critters for amusement in her dorm.
Regulus sure knew how to pick them.
“Don’t be like that, look how happy he is. And it's better than Kreacher right?” Remus whispered back, not wanting to catch either of the first year's attention.
Sirius sat up, sighing. “I guess she’s not exactly the definition of normal but there's nothing we could do about it I suppose. He’ll probably be fine at Hogwarts now, though he won't need me anymore. He was really adorable showing off his nails though,” Sirius mused looking at them before darting his eyes back to Remus.
“Do you think I should do mine too?” Sirius placed his hands in front of Remus’s face before the other boy took one looking intently at them before glancing at Sirius.
“I think it’ll look great,”
Sirius blushed, not taking his hands back, getting lost into those greenish eyes.
James' laughter was even louder when he noticed.
Regulus was gonna be alright, Sirius was sure of it.
And if Sirius stumbled upon Regulus spending time with his more interesting friends, he ignored it hoping it was some firewhiskey fueled dream.
