Work Text:
They were laughing and running through the grass that was still wet with dew. Their sneakers were soaked, but they didn't care.
It was the middle of summer, and the both of them were feeling in its own way charming childish naivety with every inch of their bodies. Jenna turned around every time to see if Tyler was catching up with her. Joseph was sure that the brightness of her smile could lighten up the whole world.
He heard their laugh as if from the side, but at the same time he felt that he was a significant part of existence.
They have no idea where they're going today. This is their little adventure. Yesterday they were playing with the coin: tails - yes, heads - no. Heads - they didn't prank Josh on the phone, tails - they painted a little part of wall bright yellow; tails - Tyler played ukulele in a public place; tails - they actually pranked Josh on the phone.
"Set a date tomorrow?"
Jenna threw the coin, caught it and with a sharp movement she lowered it to the back of her left hand:
"Tails."
"Go the the cinema?"
"Heads."
"A restaurant, maybe?"
"Heads."
"Drive somewhere?"
"Tails."
Jenna said it didn't matter where they would eventually get at, it still would be the best date ever(that she says about every their date). They left very early in the morning, and until Jenna fell asleep, Tyler asked her to throw the coin every now and again, so that the momentum would decide which road they choose.
"Turn right."
"You should throw again?"
"Why?"
"I know this road isn't really the best, a lot of bumps"
"Ty, we promised not to re-throw! That's the point of the game."
And now they were standing in the middle of the immense field, having left the car near the road. Jenna then said "Catch me!" and Tyler ran after her.
"Crap!"
Tyler stumbled and fell on the ground slightly injuring his palm. Jenna immediately ran up to him:
"Contused anything?"
"Just a little scratch, it's nothing."
"You're bleeding!"
"Means I'm alive."
Jenna pulled a handkerchief out of her pocket, grabbed Tyler's arm tightly and clamped the abrasion.
It was the middle of summer. Tyler's always preferred autumn more, but exactly at moments like this he wishes autumn not to exist. Today's sun was so incredibly bright and nicely warm. Joseph looking in front of him and saw dew drops shine. Jenna's hands were so soft. This was the softest summer ever.
"I'm alive" He quietly repeated.
"I also feel that." Jenna smiled.
Tyler leaned back and lay on the grass, pulling Jenna with him as she was tightly holding his hand. They lay there talking tree houses and how similar were clouds above them.
"You know, you said there was a really bumpy road, and that's weird, because I never felt that and slept the whole way until we stopped."
"Guess, I'm a great driver." Tyler laughed.
He thought of the little black velvet box, which he, as luck would have it, forgot on the bedside table, but which he carried in his trousers pocket every day. After some silence Tyler suddenly asked:
"Wanna go to France?"
"What?"
"Let's go to Paris tomorrow?"
"Tomorrow? So soon?"
"Come on! Say yes!"
Jenna left Tyler's hand free and threw the coin:
"Tails."
"The momentum is definitely on our side." Tyler smiled.
