Chapter Text

Kim Dokja doesn’t know how to use Discord, yet here he is.

It was an accident of some sort. Kim Dokja accidentally befriended a group of professional gamers under Yoo Sangah’s management. One gathering over dinner became ten and suddenly he’s downloading the app.

Not for a man at least. Well, maybe. You can’t say he wasn’t intrigued. Because why would the Supreme King, Yoo Joonghyuk himself send the server invite link to him?

Anyway, Kim Dokja joined the server named “Han Sooyoung's Corporation” expecting 30 people or more. However, he was met with 14 usernames. Six of them are bots.

Kim Dokja managed to sneak into Team Supreme’s private server.

🡪 guwon hopped into the server.

Heewon:

welcome

sangha!:

Welcome Dokja-ssi!

Aslan:

OMG HELLO

tls:

guwon? really??

guwon:

And?

tls:

i thought namwoon is the only chuuni here

Abyss:

im not a chunni wtf

Admiral:

@Abyss valo now

Abyss:

okie okie wait

LHS:

Hello Dokja-ssi!

guwon:

Hello everyone

Kim Dokja hesitantly sent that message then closed the app. He texted Yoo Sangah.

Kim Dokja:

Am I intruding?

Yoo Sangah:

Nope, don’t worry it’s just Supreme’s first string members and coach

And me

Kim Dokja:

That’s worse.

Yoo Sangah:

You’re basically part of the team now.

Kim Dokja:

I don’t even play Valorant.

Yoo Sangah:

You watched most of our matches and have backstage access.

Kim Dokja:

You and Sooyoung invited me.

Yoo Sangah:

You already slept at the team base.

Kim Dokja:

Han Sooyoung got me drunk that one time!!

Yoo Sangah:

Well, it’s about time we add you here. They like you, you know? I can hear Hayoungie scream from downstairs right now.

Also, you need to have more apps on your phone.

Just live a little

Kim Dokja:

Fine.

But I’ll probably not talk there much.

Yoo Sangah:

Lurking is okay too!

Don’t feel too uncomfortable, Yoo Joonghyuk-ssi invited you. I assure you, everyone wants you here, even Namwoon.

Kim Dokja:

And why did Yoo Joonghyuk invite me?

Yoo Sangah:

I don’t know, ask him.

That did not assure him in any way. But it’s okay, he could just never open the app again or even uninstall it. Kim Dokja lived his life without the blue robot app and will continue to do so. He already took advantage of the good food from the team base frequently, he didn’t want to intrude online too. But the server has a channel specifically just for venting. It’s mostly the team trash-talking the teams they faced or arrogant second-string members who think they could enter the first string with their shitty plays. Even Jung Heewon got a little wordy after the match between Supreme and Olympus. After a while, Kim Dokja found himself at the very top of the channel. He only got a little bit invested. Who knew Yoo Sangah could get that angry?

Kim Dokja slid his fingers across his phone screen and checked the other channels. The spam channel was full of memes and Lee Jihye, Kim Namwoon, and Jang Hayoung’s selcas and stolen shots. Oh, they also have a channel solely for screenshots of gossip articles and antis flaming them on social media. Apparently, Kim Namwoon was caught smoking and was getting hate for it. And apparently, Yoo Joonghyuk has a secret lover. Not that it's any of his business. The team played with some of the bots and each bot had its own channel. The server is quite organized, despite its horrendous name. Kim Dokja looked at the members and saw a crown next to Han Sooyoung’s name.

Ah, that made sense.

The clock on the top of his screen blared 2:30 am, which meant that he read through the server chat for a good few hours. Kim Dokja needed to be up for work early. He let out a sigh and rubbed his eyes. The chat died down long ago, but some are still playing games. Kim Dokja can’t imagine himself playing for 12 hours straight.

He was about to close the app, turn his phone off, and finally sleep when he saw two usernames on one of the voice channels. Pancake and Supreme_KING.

Kim Dokja’s finger hovered over the volume symbol. Should he? He just wanted to say good night. Yoo Joonghyuk was the one who invited him in, he should at least greet him. Or, he could just text him tomorrow like they always do.

He tapped the screen. It has no difference anyway. He joined the voice call, then suddenly loud music blasted from his phone.

“Oh shit!” Kim Dokja yelped as an energetic song by a K-pop girl group played in the background. He forgot that he left his media volume at max and the song blasted his sleepiness away.

“Mute Pancake or lower the volume.” Yoo Joonghyuk’s voice has no trace of tiredness. His clear voice resonated within Kim Dokja’s initially quiet room.

“How?” Kim Dokja said as he pressed the volume buttons on the side of his phone.

“Tap the icon, then you’ll see it.”

Kim Dokja did as he said and lowered the music’s volume. "Like this?"

"Mn."

“Thanks.” Kim Dokja relaxed his back against his headboard. “I didn’t know you like girl groups.”

“So?”

“It's a little OOC.”

“Are you here to bother me?” Yoo Joonghyuk clicked his tongue.

“No, I’m just surprised,” Kim Dokja said then he sang along “Candy-boda dalkomhage~ Chocolate-boda dalkomhage~”

“Shut up, you’re out of tune.”

“Hey, I don’t know this song. I just caught the first chorus.” And he’s sure he could sing okay if he knew the tune, Kim Dokja could sing annoyingly well much to Han Sooyoung’s irritation. “Who sung it? I’ll look it up then sing it for you.”

Kim Dokja could almost imagine Yoo Joonghyuk frowning right now. Still, he replied, “It’s Love So Sweet by Cherry Bullet.”

“That makes sense.” Yoo Joonghyuk didn’t reply. “I don’t know why you invited me here, I don’t even play Valorant but thank you for the gossip.”

“What gossip?”

“About your love life.”

“What love life?”

“Offline girlfriend, you have eight kids with her, and she works at KFC.”

“What bullshit?” It seemed like he didn’t have any idea about it. Yoo Joonghyuk didn’t seem like the type to read Articles about himself anyway. “Go to sleep, Kim Dokja.”

“I will, I will, goodnight Joonghyuk-ah. Don’t stay up too late.”

“Tell that to yourself.”

“Who’s up listening to GGs? Not me.”

“Who’s up reading about my nonexistent eight children? Not me.”

“You’re infuriating,” Kim Dokja said. “It’s quite believable.”

“Working at KFC? Unbelievable.” Yoo Joonghyuk sighed. “Goodnight, Kim Dokja.”

“Sleep well, kiss your eight kids sweet dreams.”

“Idiot, get off the call.”

Kim Dokja didn’t bother replying and got off the voice channel. He closed his opened apps and then turned off his phone. He stretched his arms and lay down. Now, how does one fall asleep after getting his ears assaulted by synthpop near three in the morning?

It easily became part of his routine. Kim Dokja caught up with the messages, the new memes, and the articles. He also learned how to mute certain channels, because the notification alerts were getting too distracting at work. The line of circles on the left side grew longer. Han Sooyoung sent him a bunch of server invite links for web novel update servers. She also told him to participate in the novel discussions instead of rambling to her, but he couldn’t bring himself to. He was fine with being a lurker.

Once, he entered a channel with Jang Hayoung saying “Fredbear's Family Diner. William Afton and Henry Emily opened in 1967 the family-friendly Fredbear's Family Diner, featuring a brown furry suit of a bear as a mascot. Henry would usually wear the suit, as they didn't have enough money to hire someone to do the job for a long time and they were studying at the time…” and it became an in-depth discussion of the Five Nights at Freddy’s between her and Kim Namwoon. He was equal parts intrigued and concerned. He left the channel right away.

He’ll just join next time when there are fewer people.

There were no new chapters for the novel Kim Dokja was reading so he opted for music. Kim Dokja wore his earphones and listened to a random playlist as he rode the train back home. A familiar tune filled his ears.

‘Aega taneun jjaksarangeun ttaeron sseurarigo dalkomhan geot~ Nan eoneusae neoro inhae jungdokdwae beoryeonne~’

So this is what Yoo Joonghyuk likes to listen to, songs about sweet one-sided love. Kim Dokja chuckled. Man, Yoo Joonghyuk’s wife who has eight kids would probably get pissed.

That same night, Yoo Joonghyuk received a recording of Kim Dokja singing as promised.

And Yoo Joonghyuk probably played it ten times more than he should.
