Work Text:
“Thank you for waiting.” Fíli said as he rushed into their quarters, about two hours later than they had agreed. Kíli looked up from his woodcarving and smiled at his brother.
“You’re lucky all of these dishes can also be eaten cold.”
“I’m very lucky.” Fíli agreed, looking at Kíli instead of their food.
Kíli was used to waiting for his brother. Fíli’s sense of duty often meant he was working longer than planned. He wanted to help others, which is why Kíli did not mind awaiting Fíli’s arrival.
“Aren’t you sick of always sitting about waiting for me?” Fíli asked while taking off his boots.
“You act as though I am twiddling my thumbs whenever you are not around.” Kíli laughed.
“Aren’t you?” Fíli said in mock surprise.
“I have developed many hobbies to fill all the hours I spend waiting for you.”
Fíli hummed, approaching Kíli’s chair instead of his own.
“And there is another advantage to waiting.” Kíli said warmly, putting aside his woodcarving equipment and welcoming Fíli into his lap.
“Which is?” Fíli whispered, his lips softly touching Kíli’s cheek.
“Absence makes the heart grow fonder.”
“I thought you could not grow any fonder of me.”
“I keep surprising myself.”
