Work Text:
Honami woke to a weight resting on her chest and an arm around her waist. Her eyelids fluttered open, adjusting to the soft light entering the room. Looking down she was met with the view of pale blue hair. Kanade was still asleep, nuzzling into Honamis side as if it was cold. It wasn’t, it couldn't be with the thick blankets that they had covered the bed with.
Honami reached up a hand to the other girl's head, careful not to wake her, and began to softly rake her fingers through her hair. Kanades hair was soft and silky, a feeling that Honami had come to love over time.
That, however, was not to say that Honami had ever disliked the feeling. She had been fond of the girl from the beginning of their platonic relationship, and those feelings only multiplied in intensity through the time they had known each other.
She couldn’t help the soft smile that grew on her face when the others grip tightened. When she heard Kanade let out a noise, Honamis hand stilled for a moment, hesitant to continue at the risk of waking the girl.
After a few beats of silence she continued what she was doing. Brushing a few locks of hair out of her girlfriend's face, she gained a clearer view of her face. She could only see part of her face, the rest being pressed into Honamis side, but what was visible was gorgeous.
Her eyes were shut, a peaceful sleep gracing her features. Her eyelashes were long, brushing softly against the eyebags she had earned from staying up so late, so often. Her cheeks were flushed a soft red, and her lips subtly parted as she let out cold breaths that gave Honami goosebumps.
Honami moved her hand from where she was holding back some of Kanades hair to instead cup her face gently. She swiped her thumb across her face, smiling fondly to herself. Kanades' eyes scrunched up, before they slowly fluttered open, her pupils taking a few seconds to adjust to the light. Once her eyes had adjusted, the blue haired girl focused on the other in bed with her, who she was currently holding onto tightly.
“...Honami” she murmured, sleep still present in her voice. Honami pressed a kiss to the top of her head, before burying her head in the others hair. “Kanade…” Honami spoke softly into the mess of blue hair. Pulling her head back, Honami gazed into her girlfriend's eyes. She was even prettier when she was awake. Hand still resting on the side of her face, Honami spoke, an almost whisper, into the small space between them, “Good morning”.
Kanade leant into the other's touch, staring at her for a second or two. “How long have you been awake..?” she asked, still a tad drowsy. “Only for a short while” Honami answered, her thumb rubbing circles on the other girl's cheek. “Ah… we should…” Kanade began, her sentence trailing off into mumbles as she pulled herself closer to Honami, resting her head on her chest.
Surprised at this, Honami froze before softly patting her on the head and saying her name. Kanade just tightened her grip, saying something that Honami couldn't make out. Honami felt her heat tighten at the sight, finding her girlfriend absolutely adorable. Wrapping her arms around Kanade, she closed her eyes in an attempt to go back to sleep. They could get up later, it was the weekend and they had no plans.
As the two rested together, Honami hoped that the sound of her beating heart wouldn't wake the other back up.
♡
Honami laid on her side, head resting on a pillow. She was snoring softly, barely audible, as she slept soundly. The bed wasn't too fancy, the owner didn't use it too often but it was comfortable. Said owner sat nearby, working on her computer. Headphones on her head and music in her ears, Kanade was obvious to her surroundings.
The meeting with the rest of her group wasnt happening for a while, she knew that without having to check the time. After hours of working on the composition for their new song, Kanade stretched her arms, her limbs aching after sitting for so long.
Her focus on her work now disturbed, Kanades attention drew to the girl sleeping in her bed. She couldn't see her face properly from where she sat, her hair concealing her features. Bringing her gaze back to her screen, the thought of getting back to work crossed her mind. She could finish the composition, and have it ready for her group's meeting later that night.
Or she could…
Kanade stood from her desk - sending a quick message to her friends explaining her possible absence later that night - and walked over to her bed, hand resting on the headrest. She was careful not to make a noise, her naturally light steps making this easy. When she stood beside the bed, looking down on the girl resting in it, she hesitated. The two had shared a bed many times before, and it was her bed, but… the thought of just climbing beside Honami had her flustered.
She knew Honami would like it if she slept in a bed instead of at her desk, she said so numerous times, so she decided to go for it. Lighty grasping a corner of the blanket, Kanade drew it back, trying not to disturb her girlfriend's slumber. Climbing into the bed, Kanade turned to face the other.
Now beside her, laying on the same plane, same surface, Kanade had a clear view of Honamis face. She had a hand near her face - the one connected to the arm she was laying on - obscuring her mouth, and her eyes were shut peacefully.
Honamis hair was out, not done up in the usual side pony she wore, and was cascading down her face and shoulders. Kanade reached out, pushing one of the locks that fell down over the side of her face behind her ear, and cupped her face gently. Honami's cheeks were dyed a splotchy pink, her nose a similar colour. She looked cold, and she felt it too.
Kanade grabbed the edge of the blanket once more, and pulled it up further. Leaning her head forward, and pulling herself closer to her girlfriend, Kanade nuzzled into the curve of Honamis neck. She wrapped her arms around her waist, a content sigh leaving her mouth. Closing her eyes, Kanade felt herself falling into a comfortable slumber, before being awoken by the movement of her makeshift pillow. Leaning back she saw that Honami had woken up. “Honami…. I didn't mean to wake you” she said, her voice a whisper as she lost herself in the others eyes. They were a gorgeous blue, reminding her of a flower she couldn't quite remember the name of. Or maybe a blue jay? She wasn’t sure.
She'd love to think of a more accurate description, but with Honami now awake she'd have to wait for another time. “I don't mind.” Honami murmured, her voice as soft as the lips she pressed to the top of Kanades head. Kanade let out a content sigh as she leant forward to rest her head against the other.
“You’re cold….” Honami spoke, moving her hands to cup her girlfriends cheeks. Looking into Honami’s eyes once more, Kanade melted into the touch, feeling her cheeks heat up. Honami smiled softly, a sight that warmed her heart.
Honami gently moved Kanades face towards her own, gaze flickering from her eyes, to her lips, to her eyes once more. Kanade felt herself smile before leaning in, locking lips with the other girl whom she held so close. Both physically, in the position they found themselves in, and in her heart.
After pulling back, Kanade buried herself in Honamis warmth once more, wrapping her arms around her waist. Honami giggled, pulling her girlfriend in close and leaning her head on top of the other girl. She heard Kanade mumble something that she couldn't make out. She prompted her to repeat it, “what was that?”, her voice quiet.
Kanade tilted her head to the side so her words were clearer. “..love you…” she mumbled, before snuggling closer to her girlfriend. Honami giggled softly, trailing her hands along Kanade’s back as she drifted off.
“I love you too,” Honami spoke. She was unsure on whether or not Kanade was even awake to hear it. She didn't mind either way. She could always repeat it in the morning, and the next, and the next. She didn't think she'd ever stop saying it. And if Kanade didn't hear it any of those times?
She was alright with that. She was content to just stay by her side.
