Memories Are Fickle Things

Summary:

Gojo meets a child Itadori, but there is something unusual with him.

This might have some manga spoilers, I'm not really sure, so just be warned. I'm also hoping to post at least once a week probably more.

I have an idea of where this is headed, but we will see how it goes.

I'll add tags as I go.

Chapter Text

Gojo was off to Sendai. The higher-ups had assigned him to another mission just moments after he had completed his last one. They were definitely using him as much as they could. Especially since he was already in his final year at Tokyo Prefecture Jujutsu High school. They knew he was powerful. The most powerful.

Gojo didn’t really know why he was on this particular mission, though. He was too powerful for something this… mediocre. It was only a grade two and it had barely killed anyone yet. They could have sent anyone on this mission. He probably upset one of the higher-ups recently and this was his punishment. He wanted a fun mission something that wouldn’t take a simple flick of his wrist to destroy. But he might as well take advantage of this situation. He could waste time in town: do some shopping, buy some treats. He wouldn’t be reporting back until he had at least a handful of delicious deserts.

Predictably, the mission took less than thirty minutes. Locating the tentacled creature took more time than bringing it down. And he was off to the market, not even brushing off dirt from his uniform.

Gojo had found out that there was a market going on in this town. He figured that would be the best place to find some nice deserts. He hadn’t been to Sendai before, at least not that he remembers, and he didn’t know what they were known for. But there was bound to be something tasty in the market.

Both sides of the streets were filled to the brim with vendors selling everything under the sun. Banners hung across advertising the market. There weren’t many people bustling around. The crowd winding down. It was more of a morning market. The vendors trying to get the last of the customers before they pack up.

The smell of chocolate guided Gojo to a brightly colored stall. It was drowning in pink. The flyers, the table, the banner, all a stark shade of pink. A young woman was standing behind the stall, presumably the seller.

“Hello~”

“Ah! Good afternoon, sir! What would you like?”

“Hmm…” he said, tapping his chin with his index finger. His eyes roamed the rows of chocolate treats laid out before him. “What would you recommend?”

“Well, these ones over here are made with our specialty dark chocolate filled with ganache. But if you are looking for something sweeter I would go with our collection of milk chocolates. We are almost out of these for the day, but we still have a couple of caramel and raspberry truffles made with milk chocolate.”

Gojo glanced at the one the woman had pointed to, pretending to think about all that information, but he had already decided.

“Okay, then I’ll take a box of each.”

“Really? Are you hosting a party or something, sir?”

“Nope! Just for me~” He responded to her, clapping his hands together. A wide smile stuck to his face. She rose an eyebrow and paused for a moment. She shrugged then got to work building boxes and filling them with the requested chocolates.

The vendor had already filled one box and started to make the second when Gojo felt an odd presence near him. It felt sort of like cursed energy, but it was different than normal. He was about to turn around when the woman started to speak.

“Oh, Yuji! How are you today?” Gojo looked at who the woman was talking to. It was a small boy probably five at most with soft pink hair. He was dressed in a yellow hoodie. His shoes were bright red and so so tiny. He was also struggling to carry a basket that was already almost filled with meats and vegetables.

Gojo stared at him over his sunglasses. He could see that was where the weird cursed energy was coming from, but he has never seen anything like it before. The boy, Yuji, set the basket down and turned to face the woman who was still boxing up his chocolates.

“Hello, Himari! I’m doing good! Just finished up my shopping. How are you?” The boy said, full of excitement and filled with smiles.

“I’m good, I’m good, just finishing up here. You have any room in that basket for some chocolates? I saved you some.” The woman held up a smaller box that was already put together and filled.

“I don’t think I have enough…” The boy whispered.

“It’s on the house.” The woman smiled.

“Really!?”

“Yes!”

“Thank you so much, Himari!” Yuji said and took the chocolates from her and placed them in his basket. “I’ll be sure to bring you some extra ramen next time I deliver to you!”

“No need! Don’t worry about it! Tell your parents I said hi!”

“Will do!” The boy bowed and picked up his basket stumbling away from the stand.

The woman wrapped up the rest of the chocolates and tied the box with a bow, stashing them into a bag.

“Who’s that?” Gojo asked.

“Ah, that’s Itadori Yuji. He is such a sweet boy, does all the ramen delivery for his parents. It’s really good, I would highly recommend it.” The woman handed Gojo the bag of goodies.

“Does he always do his shopping by himself?” She sighed. Gojo handed her a couple of bills and she stashed them away.

“Unfortunately, his parents work him too hard. He is always running around doing the shopping, delivering, and all of the work. I don’t think I have ever met his parents. I feel bad for him, but there’s not much I can do other than give him some chocolate every once in a while.”

“I see.” It was truly an odd situation indeed. “Thank you.” He said lifting up the bag of chocolates and nodding. She waved at him as he left.

Gojo ran to catch up with Yuji. He needed to know more about him. He could be dangerous with that cursed energy.

He saw the boy walking up an empty street dragging along his basket just outside the market.

“Yuji!” Gojo called stopping right next to the boy. Yuji stopped and looked up at the unfamiliar figure.

“Hello?” He questioned. “Oh! You were the guy next to the chocolate stand, did you need something?”

“No, no. I just wanted to see if you needed help carrying that back home.”

“Ah, no I’m good, I’ve got it!”

“Are you sure? It looks like you are struggling there.”
“Um…” The boy stared at the floor unsure of what exactly to do. In his short life, he had never come across a situation like this before.

“Here. Which way to your house?” Gojo had lifted the basket and was waiting for directions from Yuji. Yuji didn’t quite know what to do, but he figured he would just go along with it.

“Um… that way,” he pointed and started walking along, Gojo in tow.
