So, who's the gay chicken?

Summary:

"It's pretty easy. Just act like a couple with Mysta, and the one who gets flustered or pulls away is the gay chicken. Simple as that."

Luca paused for a while, thinking how absurd the dare was. But it is a dare, and Luca Kaneshiro never backs down from one.

Notes:

This fic is based on that infamous reddit post about a guy playing Gay Chicken with his friend to the point they got married for 14 years. I just think LuMysta fits that dynamic so well lmao

Work Text:

"You know, I'm starting to think Mysta is gay."

Ike almost choked on his canned soda when Luca suddenly said that with a straight face. The novelist knew spending his free time with the mafia boss leads to some interesting conversations but this was certainly not one of what he expected to hear from him.

"Luca.. Isn't he your husband..?" The brunette asked, his eyebrow raised to show his friend how confused he was from this whole ordeal. For reference, Luca and Mysta got married 3 years ago. All of their friends, including Ike, were invited. They had a whole nuptial shoot with a minecraft theme and everything.

Luca scoffs, as if Ike just asked him the most absurd question. "Yeah, I know.. But, we did it for the dare."

"What...?"

"Oh come on. Don't tell me you forgot? You know, that dare! The one during Shu's birthday!"

That? He was talking about that?!

It was one of the rare times they got together even with their busy schedules. They usually keep their days open during every boy's birthday. They meet up and do silly things together like play games and maybe even have punishment games after.

But this particular birthday celebration for Shu was special.

It was during a normal round of drinks over a Jenga tower game, anyone who topples the stack over will be offered a choice of truth or dare. Now, Luca was never one to back down from a challenge. So the moment the tower of blocks came crashing down, he jumped the gun and yelled, "DARE!" with his signature wide toothy grin.

Knowing Luca, all of the Luxiem boys had quite a difficult time to pick what kind of dare to make him do. Daring the mafia boss is like child's play for him. They could make him say and do the most absurd things and he won't even bat an eye and just do it flawlessly. This time however, Vox came up with an idea.

"Luca, I dare you to play gay chicken with Mysta." The demon proposes. The two prospects were caught visibly confused, meanwhile their resident novelist had his palm clasping his face already.

"Gay chicken..?"

"It's pretty easy. Just act like a couple with Mysta, and the one who gets flustered or pulls away is the gay chicken. Simple as that."

Luca paused for a while, thinking how absurd the dare was. But it is a dare, and Luca Kaneshiro never backs down from one. He looks at Mysta, who has a smirk on his face. Hah! Seems like his opponent isn't going to back down too, that's more like it! It wouldn't be fun if one of them wasn't up for a challenge after all.

The dare was simple, during that whole day they'll try and make advances to each other. Holding hands, hugging, clinging to each other and flirting. The only problem is that Mysta is one tough guy to beat. Whenever Luca tried to hold his hand, the detective would even go as far as to intertwine their fingers.

But what surprised Luca the most is Mysta kissing his cheek. The blonde didn't pull away, no. But he did feel his heart skip a beat. He thought, "You sneaky bastard, Mysta Rias. I won't lose to you."

And so, days after Shu's birthday, the two boys continued with their dare. They went on dates, had sleepovers, and Mysta even went as far as to live in with Luca after a few months. The mafia boss knew he had to one-up the detective somehow. So, after a year of preparing, he proposed to Mysta and they got engaged.

Their wedding wasn’t something to scoff at either. Luca made sure that everything was perfect. The wedding venue was a tightly secured private beach he bought a few years back, their guests weren’t a lot, but all of the important people in their lives were there. And Mysta? Of course he had to have the best. Mysta wore a custom made suit just for him, even the veil had unique patterns just for him. Luca isn’t gonna embarrass himself from his opponent after all. Not gonna lie though, the blonde did think his bride looked amazing that day. Sometimes he’d look at the huge framed photo in their home and look back to that event with a smile on his face.

And now here he was, 3 years into that marriage, asking his very perceptive novelist friend, Ike Eveland, if his husband is actually the gay chicken. To be fair he wasn't just pulling this out of his ass okay. Mysta definitely showed signs. Luca sometimes catches Mysta blushing around him, always grinning and sometimes even pouting at him cutely for being annoying. And whenever the blonde would touch him, the other man would flinch, but would snuggle up against him right after.

"Sorry, I'm still feel very out of the loop here--" Ike sighs, his elbows propped up on the table with his palms clasped together, as if he was praying. "Before I answer though, how's Mysta anyway?"

Luca grins, his spirits immediately springing at the mention of the detective aka his wife aka Mysta Rias. "Oh he's doing great! He actually got into baking recently. I was curious with all the new stuff he got but they all turn out to be baking equipment. Oh oh, so I got him this cute little apron for whenever he bakes! He wears it all the time and he even has this cute hairband on along with it. Do you wanna see? I took some pictures, some were a bit blurry because he started kicking me out of the kitchen for being annoying--"

Ike just stared at Luca, chuckling once in a while as the mafia boss continued to gush over his husband's newly found hobby.

He leans in, grinning. "Luca. You really love him, do you?"

And, for the first time, as if his deep dark secret got found out, Luca Kaneshiro blushes deeply. He then chuckled, finally accepting his defeat. "I guess losing a dare isn't so bad after all."

End.
