Chapter Text
It wasn’t like he was looking to be perfect. Perfection was something even an advanced AI like himself could never reach, under any circumstance. Being the face of the company weighed on him. Scraped away at his casing and rattled his endo to the very core.
The worrying thoughts played with and knotted his wiring whenever he could not work something out in his head or go against his better judgment. He had to keep his wits about him and make sure his head was screwed on straight.
It was all for the sake of the company, for Chica, and for–... Him.
It was for him.
It had been for him-- ...when he had been around.
Thinking about it would always end in him reminding himself:
There is no rabbit at the Mega Pizzaplex.
Not anymore.
Walking through the maintenance tunnels had been nothing out of the ordinary for Freddy. He’d been doing it since the incident. He had nothing but the soft thuds of his own metallic feet and the gentle buzz of his eternal fans to accompany him.
Part of him had lost all reasoning for why he was down there, then again, he had lost that reasoning years ago. It was a way for him to think things through, or maybe not even think about things at all.
Always made his head feel… empty? Lighter? Was that the best way to put it? He wasn’t too sure.
The bear wasn't certain when he had stopped walking, but he found himself at a nearby first aid station-- not too far from parts and service. That, he was certain of.
Freddy took a moment to scan the room from left to right. Nothing out of the ordinary.
Maybe he had been thinking a bit too hard on his little walk through the maintenance tunnels.
His fans were whirring louder than he would have liked, it caught him a little off guard.
The soft thuds that lingered off in the distance soon made themselves known. This situation had not been the first-- One of many, actually.
Freddy assumed the footsteps were just Vanessa being fed up with him and his wandering.
Before he knew it- those same thuds- footsteps... were behind him and had stopped in place.
"O-Officer Vanessa-" The bear looked over his shoulder- and instead of looking down to meet eyes with the familiar blonde security guard. He was met with a thin yet sturdy frame. His eyes slowly wandered upwards to meet two red glowing spheres; Eyes that would have sent shivers down any spine, but not Freddy's. The daycare attendants were very nice people! ...Usually.
"Oh-" was all the bear could manage before the low rumbling of the celestial animatronic sounded out.
"Naughty Bear..."
His tone matched that of his scratchy voice. It was almost cynical.
"What are you doing outside of your green room?" In an attempt to make himself less intimidating the moon hunched over to better match Freddy's stature. The signature grin plastered over his face as he leaned in, scanning Freddy before the robotic bear could even get a word out.
After a small exhale, Freddy manages to find his voice. "You are... not Officer Vanessa," Obviously--
Stupid. Stupid thing to say. That hadn't come out the way he wanted. He silently cursed himself, before shaking his head and trying again. "What I meant is, what are you doing down here, patrolling the tunnels?"
The amusement in Moon's eyes was not much of an answer. For now, Freddy would disregard it.
He glanced around the room. Moondrop's stare had not faltered, and even that was enough to cause him some discomfort.
Finally, after what seemed like several minutes of smothering silence, the daycare attendee spoke up.
"You know? I could be asking you the same, 'Superstar'." With a glint to his smile and a whir of his head, Moon slowly returned to his normal height. "What's the Star of this lovely establishment doing down here, all on his own...?" Freddy's eyes carefully followed the small hand gesturing before slowly tilting his head.
"Why.. am I here?" He speaks slowly, Fred hadn't really thought about why he was there, aside from wanting to be alone.
Alone with his more intrusive thoughts, the sort of thoughts he tried to keep bottled up whenever it felt as if his head would split open.
"I.. I do not know." Freddy let out a frail reply, before looking back to where Moon had last been standing, in front of him. Only, that had no longer been the case and the tall animatronic had now been by Freddy's side. It had almost startled him, he wasn't even aware of the fact the daycare attendant had moved in the first place.
Had he really been so unfocused? Maybe he had been running on a faulty battery.
Before he could think of any other excuses, moon's hands had nearly wrapped around both his shoulders.
"Well, we should get going then, shouldn't we, Mr.Fazbear?" Moon grinned down at him.
"It's Freddy--" The orange bear corrects quickly, before taking a moment and sparing a glance at the larger figure. "Wait- we?"
The walk had gone on for more than a good five minutes, luckily for Freddy, Moon hadn't been as pressing as Officer Vanessa whenever she found him wandering around outside of rockstar row.
He didn't understand why they had to be kept in such a tight box even after closing time... Then again, it was only ever enforced after the accident.
Moon must have noticed something was off by how the way Freddy tensed while walking, his brow furrows.
"You doing okay, big guy?"
Freddy had almost forgotten where he was, his hands were shaking, balled into fists even. He.. he wasn't there, he had been somewhere else entirely moments ago. He had been thinking about--
Him...
Bonnie...
Freddy's teeth slowly ground together, rattling his shell, just a little.
He wasn't sure what they had been, really. Bonnie was never too serious about labeling anything when it came to them. Call themselves anything special, like a relationship seemed bizarre to the rabbit. Freddy had expressed only once that it hurt to hear that, but Bonnie had only brushed it aside. They were still close, however, despite what Bonnie may or may not have felt.
Freddy always felt it, the way Bonnie praised him after a performance, or whenever they were alone. Freddy's breathing would have hitched had he had operable lungs... His eyes slowly hardened and fixated on the ground.
Why...? Why did it have to be Bonnie?
Why not him?-
"Helloooooo~?" The daycare attendant's voice cooed softly, right into his audio sensors. It caused a small shutter to roll up his spine before he gave a small hum.
Moon slowly rolled his eyes before turning the bear's head. "We're here!"
Though instead of the neon lights and mixed color schemes- he was meant with...
"The daycare?"
