"I'd better run, tiger."
MJ walked off as she gave Gwen one last wave. She felt Gwen's eyes on her as she rounded the corner. Unfortunately, the feeling of being watched didn't go away. Stealing a glance behind her, MJ spotted 2 men following her. MJ felt her heart beat speed up as she picked up the pace.
"Hey! Where are you going, baby? Come on!" One of the guys shouted at her. This sent MJ into a jog that led her to another 2 men hiding in a nearby alley. MJ felt the panic rise in her chest as she launched into an all out sprint.
MJ ran until one of the guys cut her off. She turned to run the other way but the other 3 were right on her tail. They made their way closer to MJ as she backed up. Eventually, MJ backed into the building behind her. The men started making barking and smooching noises upon realizing that MJ couldn't escape. Whipping her head back and forth, MJ tried to keep an eye on all four at once. For a moment, nothing happened. At some point, one of the men grabbed MJ's shoulder, which resulted in a purse to the face.
"Get off me!" MJ shouted as she kicked another guy in the knee. The other 2 sprung into action, with one of them pulling a knife out while the other pinned MJ to the wall. The 2 that MJ hit reached to grab her. MJ closed her eyes and clung to the wall, hoping that somehow she would make it out of this unscathed.
It took MJ a moment to realize that the men weren't on her anymore. Turning around, she spotted a familiar figure flipping through the air, fighting off all 4 men at once. Spider-Woman threw one over her head and flipped over another, immediately elbowing the other 2 guys in the chest. The man Spider-Woman had flipped over ran at her but was met with a punch to the face. The 2 that were elbowed ran at her from behind. Spider-Woman elbowed them again, except this time, she launched them across the street into the building right behind MJ. MJ couldn't help but smile, grateful for the masked hero once again.
Spider-Woman dodged a punch from the last guy standing before throwing one back, picking him up, and throwing him back to the ground. After gaining control of her breathing, MJ made her way over to Spider-Woman, who quickly ran into an alleyway and zipped up the building. MJ glanced up, hoping to spot her savior. Spider-Woman was gone. MJ turned to gather her things when she nearly ran into Spider-Woman, who was hanging upside down on a web.
"You have a knack for getting in trouble..." Spider-Woman began.
"And you have a knack for saving my life!" MJ giggled. "I think I have a superhero stalker."
"I was in the neighborhood."
MJ stared at Spider-Woman for a moment. "You are amazing."
"Some people don't seem to think so." Spider-Woman shrugged.
"But you are!"
"It's...nice to have a fan."
"Do I get to say thank you this time?" MJ asked, reaching for Spider-Woman's mask.
"Wait," Spider-Woman whispered.
MJ waited until Spider-Woman gave her the all-clear before continuing. Carefully, MJ grabbed the end of Spider-Woman's mask at the base of her neck. She pulled the mask down slowly to avoid accidentally pulling it off. Eventually, she placed the mask on the bridge of Spider-Woman's nose. MJ's heart was racing as she cupped Spider-Woman's face and placed her lips on hers. The kiss only lasted a few seconds, but it felt like hours to MJ. It gave her the opportunity to feel Spider-Woman's soft lips and taste some of the cherry chapstick she must've used recently.
MJ carefully pulled the mask back over Spider-Woman's face before the webbed hero shot a web to the top of the building and disappeared.
With a smile on her face, MJ placed a hand on her chest. Her heart had been stolen by a spider, and MJ certainly wasn't complaining.
