Chapter Text

Phone rings around the house. It’s picked up.

“Hello? Midoriya resistance, how may I help?”

A couple seconds and the phone is put back on the stand.

“Hisashi you son of a bitch, see what single parenting leads to? Our son, my baby is in hospital because of suicide attempt. If by nothing else I will pull you back home by your ears if I have to.”

Inko leaves like a mother, not a woman, on a mission and she’s going to get to the bottom of this because there has to be something behind this all. She has put the fear of god into men before, men who think they have rights to hurt and not think of consequences, and she can do it again even if it’s the number one, All Might himself or the all mighty god everyone preaches about.

Anything for her baby.

“Izuku sweetheart is that you” Inko calls as she hears the door close.

“Y-yeah it’s m-me mom.”

“How was your school today?”

“Mmm…It was o-okay. Kacchan l-let me play tag with him and his friends. I fell so m-my uniform got d-dirty.”

“Oh, it's okay, I'm going to wash it for you so just leave it in the dirty basket sweetie.”

Inko couldn’t help being worried. Izuku so often came home with his uniforms in bad condition, sometimes even going as far as to be burned! Now she knows her son often goes and watches those “hero fights'', which more often than not were just excuses for the “heroes” to get themselves on camera and show off their oh so strong and powerful quirks that they probably haven’t trained since the age of six. Not that she would ever tell her son that, they seemed to be the one of the only things that could make him genuinely happy nowadays. But she knew her son was also careful when running around in them; she taught him herself so the hero watching could not answer the mystery of ruined uniforms, bruises, the sudden increase in anxiety.

The burns.

The burns she would wish weren't from where she thinks they come from but she also knows Mitsuki and she and her son are awfully aggressive about certain things.

The cherry on top;

Katsuki so happens to have an explosion quirk.

Katsuki also happens to be in Izuku's class, and has been for years.

Katsuki is mean.

So hope wasn’t strong but if Izuku wouldn’t tell her, for some reason wanted to protect his abuser, because that was what Katsuki is, then she can only support him the best she can and have the papers ready for when Izuku has had enough or she caught Katsuki in the middle of the act.

Now she can only continue the years old waiting game.

Just outside with her car open Inko stops to think. Her boy’s quirkless, the hospital won’t most likely keep him there for long even if he’s in critical condition because there’s “more deserving patients”. Like every life wasn’t worth saving but alas social taboos will always be a thing unfortunately. Most times she wouldn’t let it consume her but this time it felt more real. More personal. That if she left now in her car to drive towards the hospital, the chance of people denying her son a life he was allowed to have became bigger, would come faster, would be real.

Her heart started to beat a bit faster, sweat began to form on her forehead. Midoriya Inko, a big name in the lawyer community, a fear to almost every hero there is, for the first time in many years, was filled with absolute fear. Fear her son would take his last breath any minute now, fear of being alone in this awfully cold world. Fear of the woman she might become if she didn’t have his son there to brighten her day. Fear that maybe she had contributed to Izuku's decision to take the fall, with her long workdays and inability to be there for days sometimes. Maybe she was part of the problem. If that was the case wouldn’t it be better to force herself to let Izuku go, let him have the peace. No matter how awful it made her feel, she had to think about her son first, that was her job as a mother after all.

Inko’s breath was faster than before, it left her gasping for the little air she could get into her lungs. Her cheeks were wet, and how pathetic to cry alone in her car just from thoughts when her son was dying alone in a cold hospital. But she couldn’t make herself stop no matter how she tried, everything just seemed so overwhelming right now, that if she moved now, everything would come crashing down and her son would be dead.

Her wedding ring started to heat up. It swirled with black and brown.

‘If I go back inside, collect myself a bit and go then, it can’t be as bad as I’m making it out to be.’

Going inside her house, Inko saw a black misty portal in her living room. Doubt came in, could it be a villain? Had she passed out and her mind was playing a sick joke on her? But then she heard it. Her husband! Hisashi was on the other side! Stumbling around to reach the portal, Inko let her tears fall freely because if someone knew what to do it would be the father of her son, Hisashi.

Stumbling through the portal all she could think about was little Izuku in a big hospital bed.

‘Hold on a bit longer sweetheart, mom and dad are coming and making things right.’
