Summary:

Jaehyun's plan was to revisit all of Doyoung's favorite dating spots to ask him to officaly be his boyfriend, but the weather isn't exactly playing in his favor.

Notes:

I always wanted to write something with Jaedo as the main couple and I had this specific idea of a date in mind, so I chose to finally write it. It's nothing much, but I hope you'll like it :)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

“I think we should leave now,” Jaehyun said, as he inspected their, once again, empty glasses. He had originally planned out the perfect date for the two of them, but due to a sudden heavy rainfall, they have been stuck inside this café for four hours now. Doyoung and him have been on many dates throughout the past five months and today Jaehyun wanted to finally pop the question - he wanted to ask Doyoung to officially be his boyfriend. Unfortunately, he lost all the confidence to do so, as nothing was going according to plan.

Doyoung smiled at him, “I’m sorry things didn’t work out the way you wanted them to.” He grabbed his hand from across the table and started softly caressing it with his thumb. “We’ll repeat it when the weather’s nice again, alright?” Jaehyun pouted at that and laid his other hand on top of Doyoung’s. “But today was supposed to be special - I wanted it to be special.” The latter chuckled lightly, his heart taking a leap at the sight in front of him. “We can still make it special, Jae,” said man looked up at him with a hopeful look on his face, “we could go to your place, put on a nice movie and cuddle on your couch with some hot cocoa.”

Jaehyun’s eyes lit up at the suggestion, they’d done something similar like this before and the memory of that night set thousands of butterflies free in his stomach. He nodded, while replying with a soft “I’d like that” before breaking out the biggest smile - dimples showing and everything. They got up after a few moments of silence and walked towards the door. “Wait, Jae,” Doyoung suddenly said, “we don’t have an umbrella.” Jaehyun looked at him, confusion written all over his face. “It’s raining cats and dogs out there,” Doyoung pointed out the window, “and we don’t have an umbrella.” The imaginary lightbulb that went off in the younger’s head was written all over his face. “How are we supposed to get to your place now? We’ll get sick.”

“Oh,” Jaehyun simply said, “I have an idea.” He took off his jacket and held it over their heads. “Sweetie, this is never gonna get us home dry,” Doyoung frowned. “Well, with this attitude it isn’t.” Doyoung looked at him for a moment longer, still not one hundred percent convinced. “We’ll run,” Jaehyun continued, “like they do in those romantic movies. I know how much you like these romantic gestures.” He smiled at Doyoung, earning a small smile in return. “Besides, it would make me feel like my date idea didn’t get completely ruined by the weather.” “Fine,” Doyoung muttered, stepping closer to the latter. He grabbed the handle of the door, opened it and together they ran the few blocks to Jaehyun’s apartment. Despite the younger’s jacket, they both got extremely wet, but Doyoung didn’t care anymore - Jaehyun was right, he was a sucker for romantic gestures.

When they arrived at Jaehyun’s apartment, the latter immediately went into the bathroom and grabbed two large towels. “Do you mind if I take a shower?” Doyoung asked. His clothes were completely drenched and he started shivering. “Oh, no, totally. Go ahead,” Jaehyun replied, stepping aside for the older to walk towards the bathroom. “I’ll get you some of my clothes, wait a sec.” He disappeared into his room and came back a few moments later, carrying a fresh set of clothes. “These might be a tad big on you, but I hope you don’t mind.” His dimples popped out again, as he smiled at Doyoung, who replied, “I don’t, thank you.”

Jaehyun also decided to change into a new set of clothing, but he skipped the showering part. The cold didn’t affect him as much as it did with Doyoung, so drying off the excess water and wearing sweatpants and a shirt was enough to keep him warm. While he waited for Doyoung to finish showering, he decided to prepare the hot cocoa. He wasn’t the biggest fan of chocolaty things, but he knew that Doyoung loved it and seeing his eyes light up at it was worth more than everything else. As he put the milk on the stove to heat up and took the cups out of the cupboard, he heard the shower running on the other end of the apartment. It felt oddly domestic, but Jaehyun would have to lie if he said he didn’t like it.

Ever since he first laid eyes on him, when Johnny and Taeyong introduced the two of them, he knew that Doyoung was the one. And as cliché as it sounds, it was love at first sight for him. Jaehyun didn’t really waste any time, as he asked him out on the same day and up until today, it was the best decision he ever made. Their first date was in the same café they sat in today, he had planned for them to get a drink and then walk to the park nearby. Jaehyun had wanted to get to know Doyoung better before they did anything more serious. They talked for hours that day - completely forgetting about everything else - and by the end of it, Jaehyun knew everything about Doyoung and vice versa. On their fifth date, while watching the sunset on the beach, they shared their first kiss and it was everything, if not even more, that Jaehyun had ever dreamed of.

The little shared moments of intimacy, whether it was kisses, hugs, or simply just holding hands, meant so much to him that it scared him. They hadn’t known each other for that long, yet Jaehyun felt himself falling hard for the older. A warm pair of arms suddenly wrapped itself around Jaehyun’s torso, startling him just the slightest. “Hi,” Doyoung softly said, voice turning muffled due to his face being squished against the younger’s back. Jaehyun smiled to himself before he whispered an even softer “hey” back. “I’m almost done here,” he said, “why don’t you go ahead and pick out a movie?” Doyoung made a whiny noise behind his back, wrapping his arms tighter around his torso. “What is it?” Jaehyun asked. Doyoung whined again, “don’t wanna let you go,” he mumbled, making Jaehyun’s heart melt completely. “Alright,” he said, the smile on his face growing wider by the second, “let me just finish making our drinks and then we’ll go into the living room together.”

Doyoung leaned his head up and pressed a soft kiss onto the younger’s neck. He propped his head up on Jaehyun’s shoulder and watched as the younger one filled their cups and stirred in the cocoa powder. “Why do you even have cocoa powder at home if you don’t like it?” Doyoung quietly asked. Jaehyun’s movements halted for a moment, as he thought of a reason that wouldn’t make him sound as whipped as he actually was - but nothing came to mind. “Well,” he started, “you really like hot cocoa and your eyes light up whenever you drink it. And you know, the last time you were here, I didn’t have any and you looked like a defeated puppy when I told you, so I went to the store the next day to make sure I’d always have some in case you came over and wanted some.”

Doyoung loosened his grip around the younger and took a step back. “Jaehyun-ah,” he quietly said, making said man turn around, “you- that-,” Doyoung tried to say, suddenly unable to find the proper words. Jaehun just looked at him with so much fondness in his eyes that all Doyoung was able to do was grab the younger’s face and press a kiss onto his lips. It took a short moment for Jaehyun to realize what happened before he closed his eyes and grabbed Doyoung’s waist to pull him closer. Their kisses were like the first ray of sunshine on a cold winter day, like a rainbow after heavy rain.

Jaehyun could never grow tired of kissing Doyoung. He could never grow tired of the way their lips moved against each other. The way Doyoung would wrap his arms around his neck, pressing himself impossibly closer against the younger. How Doyoung would let out a sound caught between a breath and a moan when Jaehyun would tease his tongue against his lower lip. He could never grow tired of the way their tongues would fight for dominance, or the way Doyoung would always give in, letting him win. Or maybe it’s the whining that he’ll never get tired of. The whining when either of them pulls away - just how Doyoung is pulling away right now. It has him whining and yet he’ll never grow tired of it. The sparkle in Doyoung’s eyes is the brightest he’s ever seen it and maybe that’s another thing Jaehyun will add to the list of things he could never get tired of.

“The hot cocoa also plays in my favor, don’t you think,” Jaehyun smirked after a moment of silence, making Doyoung look up at him in confusion. “You get your hot cocoa and I get kisses, I think it’s a win-win.” Doyoung huffed and let go of Jaehyun, reaching around him to grab their cups. “You know,” he started as he walked away, “you could get a lot more than just kisses if you finally asked me to be your boyfriend.” Behind him, Jaehyun erupted in a coughing fit. “What?” he asked as Doyoung settled on the couch, placing one cup on the table in front of him and wrapping both his hands around the other one.

“Taeyong told me a while ago that Johnny told him that you two talked about you wanting to make things official.” He took a sip of his drink before he continued, “I wanted to ask you already actually, but Johnny said that it’s important to you that you ask me .” Jaehyun slowly joined him in the living room, sat on the other end of the couch and picked up his own cup. “I-” he started, not really knowing what to say to that. Doyoung, or more Johnny, was right. Jaehyun did want to ask Doyoung and not the other way around. Doyoung was special, he wasn’t like his exes and he wanted things to be perfect, he didn’t want to rush anything, he wanted to make sure that they both felt the same.

Jaehyun actually didn’t know why he wanted to be the one to pop the question, he had never made anything official with any of his past “boyfriends”. They never got to the point where they thought that it was serious enough to put a label on it, but Doyoung was different. Jaehyun had wanted to put a label on them after their first date, but he knew that it would have been way too early for it. The fact that he liked someone as much as wanting to ask them to be his boyfriend was already crazy enough, but the fact that Doyoung had wanted to do it for quite some time now as well? Jaehyun didn’t think that it was possible for him to fall for Doyoung even more.

“I really really like you, you know?” he suddenly blurted out before he could stop himself. Jaehyun was about to apologize, when he saw the faint blush that crept onto the older’s cheek bones. Having made Doyoung speechless gave him a few silent moments to properly take in the man in front of him. He wasn’t wearing his well-fitted jeans, black turtleneck and trench coat anymore. There was no more silver jewelry around his neck or on his hands that would cause Jaehyun’s wet dreams in broad daylight. Instead he wore Jaehyun’s slightly too big, comfy clothes. Black sweats and a white shirt that started falling off of Doyoung’s shoulder. He looked so soft, yet sexy that Jaehyun couldn’t decide whether he wanted to cuddle or jump the older.

As his mind wandered off to all the things he wanted to do to Doyoung in this state, he cleared his throat and got up to turn on the TV. When he sat back down, he settled next to the older one and laid his right arm on the headrest, while his left hand held the remote to scroll through netflix. Jaehyun felt the latter lean into him as he pressed play on the drama they had started together the last time he was over. They watched their show in silence for a while - a few comments on the plot or the main character here and there. It was an unconscious movement of the two of them, as they kept on leaning closer and closer together, interlocking their legs until you couldn’t tell them apart anymore.

Jaehyun’s hand was on the older’s knee, slowly stroking up and down, while Doyoung’s fingers threaded through his thick locks. There wasn’t anything new to this situation, they had acted the exact same way when Doyoung last spent the night at Jaehyun’s place three weeks prior. Yet the electricity of the conversation they had earlier was still hanging in the air and neither could deny it. At the end of one episode, Doyoung’s gaze left the TV and landed on Jaehyun, only to be greeted with the sight of the younger one already looking at him with the same fondness as he always did.

“You didn’t even watch-” “Be my boyfriend,” Jaehyun interrupted him. “What?” Doyoung asked, not really able to comprehend the question that quickly. “Be my boyfriend,” Jaehyun repeated, “please.” Doyoung’s face broke out into a wide grin, as he looked into the younger’s sparkling eyes. He leaned down and pressed a soft chaste kiss onto his lips, “of course I’ll be your boyfriend,” he chuckled, “I’ve only been waiting like five months for you to finally ask me.” Jaehyun smiled up at him - revealing his little dimples - and pulled the older’s face down to him to connect their lips in another kiss.

It wasn’t as soft as the other ones they shared throughout the day. There was a lot of passion in it that both of them had suppressed for way too long. Jaehyun’s tongue entered the older’s mouth as he slowly pushed him down to lie on the couch. He hovered over Doyoung as they continued kissing, soft moans slipping past the latter’s lips in the moments they parted to catch their breaths. Doyoung’s hands roamed around his back until they found the hem of his shirt and slipped past it, earning a surprised gasp from Jaehyun.

However neither of them broke the kiss, as Doyoung dug his fingernails into his back and Jaehyun started grinding down onto the older one. When they pulled apart a moment later to catch their breaths again Jaehyun said, “I think it would be better if we move this to the bedroom.” He didn’t need to say it again as Doyoung nodded immediately, pressing another chaste kiss onto his lips, before they both got up and Jaehyun pulled them into his bedroom.

Maybe the day didn’t start the way Jaehyun wanted it to, but now as he was laying next to a sleeping Doyoung, he was sure that it ended a thousand times better than he could have ever imagined.
