Work Text:

“So, get this—” Sam said.

“Whatever it is,” Dean interrupted him, “I don’t wanna know. This whole thing sounds kinda fishy.”

“Dean. There’s a reason for the disappearances. According to this text, a Scottish settler brought a weird horselike creature with him in the 19th century. After his untimely death, the horse walked into the lake and vanished, never to be seen again.”

“Goddammit, Sammy,” Dean sighed and threw his duffle through the open door towards the bed in their room. “This is our first vacation in, uh, forever. And now you’re telling me you found us a case, before we’ve even arrived. Great.” Sinking down on the couch, he longingly glanced at Cas who sat on the other side.

Although there were two bedrooms in the cabin, thanks to his damn brother, Dean wouldn’t even have a room for himself. Goddammit, he didn’t need to share a room with his brother on his vacation. This was supposed to be fun, but then Sam had invited himself. Dean had planned everything meticulously. Jody had been over the moon when Jack had wanted to stay with her for a week, and Sam was supposed to stay with Eileen.

But then Eileen had found another case in New England, and Sam had decided he would rather spend a few days with them in Wyoming instead alone in the car on the road.

“You know what? Fine,” Sam said and shrugged. Closing the park’s information booklet, he got up. “Don’t mind me. I’ve got this. You and Cas can do whatever you want. Just be careful when you try your luck with catching fish. There’s a Kelpie on the loose.”

Dean huffed and rolled his eyes. “This ain't our first rodeo, Sammy.”

“Yeah, I know. Just be careful.” The door closed behind Sam, and Dean finally allowed himself to breathe.

“Dean? Is everything okay?” Cas sounded worried, and Dean felt the weight of the few yards between them on his shoulders.

“Yeah, fine, buddy,” Dean grumbled and stared at his hands. Looking up, he faked a grin for his angel.

But of course, Cas saw right through him. “You don’t look fine.”

“Thanks, dude,” Dean snapped.

“What is it?” Cas asked, far too softly, and skidded nearer until he sat right next to Dean.

Dean felt the heat radiating from Cas’ body. His anger subsided and only his frustration remained. “This was supposed to be our vacation. You know, just you and me. You wanted to show me your best fishing grounds.”

“It still is, Dean,” Cas said, and Dean longed to be allowed to rest his head on Cas’ shoulder.

“How the hell is there a Kelpie out there?” Dean grouched. “Didn’t you solve the missing person cases when you caught the damn Djinn?”

“I thought so,” Cas admitted. “But I must have overlooked some evidence.”

Huffing, Dean let himself fall back in the cushions. “Awesome.”

“Uh, Dean?”

“What, Cas?” Dean snapped, only to realise that Cas seemed bashful, and added on a softer note, “What is it, sunshine?”

“You don’t have to share a room with Sam.”

“Yeah, I probably could catch some Zs on the couch, but” —Dean wiggled on his seat and tested the upholstery— “my damn back would hate me.”

“My room has a king.”

Dean’s eyes shot up, and he gaped at his angel. “You mean—?” he swallowed. “Are you inviting me in?”

A shy smile appeared on Cas’ face. “I told you, Dean. Before— I love you. And even though you haven’t said anything after my return, I got the feeling—” Cas wrung his hands. “I might have been wrong, assuming that what I wanted was out of reach. You—”

“Shuddup,” Dean mumbled and cupped Cas’ face, caressing his stubbly cheek with his thumb. Leaning in, he brushed his lips over Cas’, before he pulled him in his arms.

“It’s always been you. I— Fuck! I wanted to tell you, but I never— This vacation was supposed—” Dean rambled and he could feel tears pricking his eyes.

Although he couldn’t see it, Dean felt Cas’ smile against his face. “Just to be sure, Dean. Did you just agree to share a room with me?”

Dean laughed and pulled back until he could grab Cas’ nape and bury his hand in the angel’s hair. Still smiling, he brought their lips together, showing rather than telling.

Eagerly, Cas kissed him back. Soft lips moved over Dean’s, pliant and warm, asking for more, and Dean delivered. Their kisses got deeper, needier. Tongues and teeth, but always Cas. Dean couldn’t get enough, took and gave, until he didn’t know any longer where he ended and his angel began. The world around them blurred, leaving only them, together.

“Guys! I was wrong. It wasn’t a Kelpie. There was— Oh, uh! Congrats, I guess, and, uh, sorry— You know what? I, uh— Maybe I should check on Eileen. Yeah, I’m gonna book a flight to Boston. I’ll text you.” Sam grabbed his duffle and backed off through the door, before either his brother or Cas even noticed he had been there.
