It’s happening again. Why does this always happen? One moment everything is fine the next it’s not.
One minute they are cuddling and giving escimo kisses, the next they are screaming at each other so loud that it hurts Sapnaps ears.
He should’ve suspected it would happen. He just didn’t think this time I’d be so soon.
Sapnap didn’t know what this argument was about, he didn’t bother knowing. It was different every time. The first time or two, he’d tried to figure out the problem so he could help! But…he gave up on doing that, it didn’t matter anyway.
Time to brace himself for another divorce. Time to brace himself on everything that came with that divorce.
But Sapnap didn’t want to do that right now, he just wanted to snuggle up with his fathers and watch a funny movie. He wanted to laugh and have fun with them. He wanted to act grossed out at their flirting. He wanted to pretend to fall asleep so his dad would carry him to his bed. He wanted a loving goodnight with a forehead kiss.
Sapnap wanted to be happy.
Though as he’s learned, Sapnap doesn’t always get what he wants.
That’s why the 10 year old is in his locked room and curled up in his bed. With a pillow covering his ears to block out the yelling, and trying to stop the tears from falling.
He couldn’t cry
He Shouldn’t cry
Sapnap was too old to be doing this, crying over something so predictable.
So why can’t he stop crying!?
The young boy zoned back out of his thoughts, and realized something… it’s quiet.
Did they stop screaming for a minute or two? Or did they stop for the night?
He just wanted to know if his parents were done fighting yet.
He waited, and waited, but no more yelling was heard.
That doesn’t mean the coast is completely cleared but it does mean leaving his room isn’t as dangerous.
The young boy quietly walked to his door and cracked it open.
Everything was quiet. He couldn’t see movement.
He knew just what to do to make his dad feel at least a little bit better. He walked all the way to the kitchen and started making hot chocolate and platting some cookies.
It only took a minute or two, but to him it was too long. The silent house and anxious thoughts were causing his nerves to act up
He slipped out of the kitchen: cookies and hot chocolate in hand, and tipped toed around the house, all the way to his dad's room
He knew his father, Badboyhalo, always went to his room after a fight, while his stepdad would storm out of the house to cool down.
Once he got to his dad's door he slowly pushed it open so he could peak inside. He needed to assess how bad the damage was. What Sapnap saw though, was no pretty sight.
His dad, Badboyhalo, was curled up on the bed sobbing into a pillow. A pile of used tissues next to him. Sniffles and croaked out cry’s were all too loud in the otherwise quiet house. The noise echoed even louder in the room.
It broke the ten year olds heart to see his own dad like this. But he knew that his dad was sensitive and emotional, he was empathetic and kind. Sadly in this life those qualities seemed to make him end up hurt.
But he also knew his father was strong. He always overcame those awful feelings and that was something that was admirable to the young boy.
So Sapnap creeped over to where his dad was, forming a plan of comfort in his head.
He slowly rubbed his hand on his back, letting him know someone else was there. After a few seconds of that he started talking in a soft voice. “Hey dad, I made you some hot chocolate and brought you some cookies”
It seemed to catch his attention as he raised his head to look at his young son.
Bad’s head was reeling with how maturely his son was handling this situation. How well he was dealing with him. He felt guilty because his son wasn’t supposed to be comforting his own crying father. But here they were.
Bad quickly scooped up Sapnap into his arms, sitting him in front of him on the bed, and gave him a big thank you hug.
Bad said his apologies to the ten year old but Sapnap wasn’t having it. He couldn’t bear to hear his distraught father, eyes still puffy and glazed with unshed tears, apologizing to him. So he handed him the hot-cocoa and cookies instead.
That’s where the sorrowful night turned into a quiet, comforting, bonding moment for Sapnap and his Dad. They cuddled up together under the blankets, sipping hot cocoa, and chomping on delicious cookies. They picked a nice movie to watch and fell asleep in each other's arms.
As Skeppy returned home, Bad’s favorite flowers in hand, he saw the scene before him. His heart melted in awe at the cute father-son-moment.
He sat the flowers on the dresser, a heartfelt apology note with it, and moved to the other side of the bed. He clambered in next to Sapnap. Ever so careful not to wake up either of the people he cares about most.
In the end the whole family was cuddled up on one bed. Movie still playing in the background, empty mugs and a plate with only crumbs left on it, and soft snores emanating from the family. Two fathers on either side of their son.
Even though the day was sad, they came out with something good. Like they always do.
