Chapter Text

Dr. Daniel Jackson was in the archeology lab, assisting with cataloguing the SGC’s backlog of artifacts when the claxons warning of an incoming wormhole started blaring.

Unscheduled off-world activation! Sergeant Harriman’s voice blared over the P.A. system.

Always one to let curiosity get the best of him, Daniel dropped what he was doing and made his way to the gateroom. By the time he reached his destination the alarms had stopped, so Daniel knew there was not an imminent threat. He entered the gateroom just as the Stargate disengaged and he spotted most of his teammates, who had been on a strictly military operation with the Jaffa rebellion, on the ramp. Jack and Sam looked a little worse for wear and Teal’c was typically impassive. A few Jaffa rebels were also present. Dean Winchester was missing.

General Hammond walked briskly through the opposite doorway. He took in the state of his subordinates and asked, “Colonel O’Neill, where is Corporal Winchester.”

“Sir!” Jack said to the general, “We need to plan a rescue op asap.”

“What happened?” Daniel asked.

“We were sold out,” Jack said grimly.

“It was a trap, sir,” Sam elaborated for the general. “There were no rebel sympathizers among Deimos’ Jaffa.”

“Corporal Winchester was captured during our retreat to the Stargate,” Teal’c said.

Jack yanked his cap off his head and scrubbed a hand through his hair in frustration. “Sir, time is of the essence here,” he said. “Deimos was literally packing up ship by the time we got out of there.”

General Hammond nodded and said, “Alright, SG-2 and SG-3 will join you in the rescue mission.”

The turnaround time for planning and gearing up for the rescue operation was quick, but not quick enough.

“Dammit,” Jack said with a sigh once he stepped through the Stargate and surveyed the landscape beyond. Deimos’ Ha’Tak vessel was gone.

“Well, that’s not a good sign,” Daniel observed.

“Alright,” Jack said, turning to the other members of the rescue team. “There’s a chance Winchester managed to get off the pyramid ship before it left but he could be injured. Let’s pair off for the search and meet back here at 1600 hours.”

By the time of the rendezvous, it was clear that their search was in vain. No one had found any sign of Corporal Winchester. The rescue team returned to Stargate Command.

General Hammond was waiting in the gateroom on their arrival and immediately noted their air of defeat. He frowned and said, “I take it you weren’t successful.”

Jack shook his head and said, “No sir.”

Hammond nodded slowly and said, “Then at this time, I’ll have to declare Corporal Dean Winchester missing in action.”
