Goodbye Quirk

Summary:

Overhaul is conducting a clinical trial on a pill that will take away quirks.

Work Text:

The plague had come over the world nearly a decade ago. A sickness that whipped out all of those who had any type of quirk. One that seemed to target anyone. It didn’t matter if one was young or old. It didn’t matter how strong or weak the quirk was. All that mattered was that someone was being harmed at the hands of what Overhaul had developed. Even he no longer had a quirk as he had been one of the first test subjects to have taken the sickness. Even when his whole body wanted to reject it, there was no other way to even rid this damned world of heroes if he wasn’t willing to try the cure first. Hell, it worked. Worked a lot better on men though. The trials on women…

“You are here primarily to take the cure for your quirk,” Overhaul crossed his legs and looked at the woman across from him as she looked at him. “Is that a correct assessment of why you are here today?”

The woman nodded.

“I need verbal confirmation before we move forward with the deletion of your quirk,” Overhaul continued. His eyes darted down to the pad of paper that rested on his legs then back up to the woman.

She looked completely ordinary. No indication on the outside that she had a quirk. But according to the file he had on her, she had a quirk where she could breathe fire. The side effects included some really bad heartburn and some really bad stomachaches. At least there was not much wrong with her. Her whole physique was like a mom’s. Strong but soft around the edges. Just a tiny bit. But there was noting motherly about her. She had been picked off of the streets and brought here in exchange for a hot meal and money. Just enough to rent a room in a seedy motel to help her recover but that was it. There was noting that he could do about it now. He just…he had no other way to test them other than looking at them as their stench filled the room that he sat in with them. This one smelled like cat piss.

He placed a hand over his mouth as he tried to keep away the scent that had penetrated his nose so deeply that he had no way of knowing if it was him that now carried the scent. He was someone who would sanitize after every patient but this was…this woman made him want to set his body on fire and pour bleach down his nostrils just to try and get rid of the scent of this woman.

“Do you think I can truly get rid of my quirk with just one pill,” the woman continued. “I just…I don’t believe it’s true. How would I know you aren’t just a quirkless charlatan?”

“I can promise you that I am not just a quirkless charlatan,” Overhaul looked at the woman in her stained clothing and the blood dropping from her nose. “I can give you more than just my word that this is going to work. My own quirk was taken away and I was it’s first test subject.”

“I don’t believe you,” the woman crossed her arms and looked down at the form on Overhaul’s lap. “I don’t want to participate in this anymore.”

“That is your right, but I want you to know that all that is benign corrupts in time and your quirk may seem benign but you are going to kill yourself when you realize that there is nothing that you can do to help yourself because I will refuse you.”

The woman nodded once more.

“But I will get you the paperwork to get you out of the trial.”
