Work Text:
Luka remembers it as if it was yesterday.
She remembers when she first met her foster brother Kaito, how he held his hand out to her and was excited to meet her.
She remembers getting to know him and his parents and grandmother as if she was always part of the family, eventually calling them her family too.
She remembers their parents going missing. The tears she and Kaito would shed every night in their room, when Yacchan was still asleep.
She remembers celebrating her first birthday with them, and she was happy that day.
But, deep down, everyone wished that Isao and Mitsuko were here to celebrate too.
Now, they have more friends, more people to join future birthday celebrations! Len, Zyuran, Gaon, Magine, Vroom, Zox, Flint, Miku and the twins. She wonders if that boy Stacey and his sister Rin will ever join them.
Luka wakes up, already dressed for the day. Huh? That’s odd, she must’ve forgotten that she had them on.
She goes downstairs, only to discover nobody there. They must be outside, she thinks.
Luka goes outside, only to discover that Romance World has returned.
He affects Luka with his powers, only for her to fall in love with not just anybody, but him!
Luka’s inner voice screams at herself to wake up from the chaos, hopefully Kaito and the others will find her!
Except, she does wake up, she was dreaming the whole thing.
“Hey, Luka!” Kaito runs up to her, out of breath and a box in hand.
“I found a gift I forgot to give you on your birthday, but it’s Valentine’s Day today so maybe it counts! Right?” He leaves it in front of her, pushing it closer ever so gently.
“Forgetting a gift? Can’t believe you’d do that!” She teases him, fake punching his arm. Kaito laughs in response.
In the box are two heart necklaces in halves that can connect, one with “Best Sister” and the other with “Best Brother” on it.
“This is…!” Luka smiles widely. She immediately jumps over the counter to hug Kaito.
Luka remembers the very moment where, as a child, she thought to herself.
‘I hope I stay with this family, my family, forever.’
