Chapter 1: fighting for our right

Chapter Text

The Hale Pack was Beacon Hills’s worst kept secret.

Partially because it didn’t belong to the entirety of the city and mostly because no one truly knew what was  going on inside the group of tightly-knit teens.

All anyone knew was that one day the collection of hormones were dispersed into different cliques throughout the school, and the next they were converging in constricted balls where laughs were heard but whispers were not. However, those who paid a slight bit more attention were startlingly aware of the fact that the group was a gradual thing. It began slowly, tentatively, and held fast. These ones knew all too well the peculiarities of the formation. The only apparent thing, and the only thing collectively agreed upon, was that Stiles Stilinski, son of the sheriff, was in the middle of it all.

The conspiracy started one Fall afternoon when a handful of students caught Scott McCall, internationally known to be in love with Allison Argent, with his face shoved into his best friend’s neck in the school library a handful of times. If one were to press these students for details, they would further on admit that Stiles wouldn’t even be paying attention. He would  typically be pouring over a book with a yellow highlighter caught between his teeth.

Protesting loudly, a gathering of lacrosse players claimed that Jackson Whittemore, infamously dating Lydia Martin, growled at them for poking fun of the brunet and then proceeded to toss his oversized leatherman over Stiles’s shoulders, watching the other intently until he was ready to evacuate the locker room. The players would go on to supply that when reporting their speculation of an affair to Lydia, she stared at them for perhaps two seconds, laughed, and informed the boys that, “Stiles was her’s way before he was Jackson’s.”

It was after this revelation that the Key Club piped up that they were both wrong because they had seen Erica Reyes, recent outcast turned hot girl (and definitely taken), bodily ram Stiles into the lockers and graze her nose and lips along his jawline.

Emboldened by these forthcomings, certain members of Beacon Hills High School stumbled forward to profess their two cents on the matter. Apparently, Vernon “Silent Treatment” Boyd, boyfriend of Erica Reyes, must be secretly dating Stiles because anytime he was alone or anytime someone spoke to him for seemingly too long, the tall boy appeared in one’s peripheral vision where there had previously been transparent air, ready to grab the other’s arm and lead him away.

Isaac Lahey, known hitherto to slip into classrooms and sneak out of them unnoticeably and be a part of absolutely zero extracurriculars, was suddenly loud and snarky, cackling with the school’s high and mighty. To any hallway dweller with eyes’ attention, the lanky teen was constantly following Stiles and was often spotted curled over the other’s shoulder as they walked.

Adding to the ever-growing conspiracy was Allison Argent, new girl, sweetheart, and beloved of Scott McCall. She was commonly spotted conversing with Stiles, arm thrown over his shoulders, with a wide grin sketched across her beautiful face.

And of course, no one could forget the day that Stiles stormed into Mr. Harris’s office spewing facts, statistics, evidence, and insults and demanded that he raise Isaac’s, Erica’s, and Jackson’s grades on a test. This showdown wasn’t just popular because of its dramatic flare either. It was passed down to freshmen because Stiles didn’t walk away with a week’s worth detentions but with three newly written A’s and satisfaction lining his brow.

Because that wasn’t all confusing enough, Derek Hale, ex-convict, was soon thrown into the mix. He appeared at the school occasionally, which, okay, was strange but ignorable. Then, however, browsing teens noted that Stiles and Derek appeared in grocery stores together . Before, it was commonplace to catch a glimpse of Stiles hauling any of the aforementioned teenagers through the aisles, tossing this at them and forcing them to put that back on the shelf.

Now, Derek Hale and Stiles Stilinski were shopping together, and ostensibly, they had kissed in the cereal aisle, holding a box of Captain Crunch.

This, obviously, made its way around town, so when a brave soul found the nerve to march up to the sheriff himself and ask about it, all they ever received in response was, “Derek Hale is a good man.”

That’s it. Derek Hale is a good man. And then the sheriff would excuse himself.

The Conspiracy of Stiles Stilinski was ever-growing and ever-changing, but the public of Beacon Hills was aware of two facts.

1. Derek Hale is a good man.

2. Stiles Stilinski and Derek Hale are the leaders of a cult.
