Work Text:
It was the 25th of December. It should be a day where people spent their time buying gifts, spending time with their families, and enjoy the winter season.
Draco was not doing those.
Instead, he was sitting on his study, working on his thesis for his Mind-Healer Profession. He already established his hypothesis and able to conceptualize the concepts and evidence needed to support his theory. However, Draco could not help but to proofread his work a couple of times to make sure that it is perfect.
Since the Great Wizarding War, he, and his mother, Narcissa was pardon by the ministry due to Harry Potter’s statement and his mother’s risk action to lie to the Dark Lord about Harry’s death. Due to this, they were fortunate to not imprisoned in Azkaban rather, they were in probation for 2 years and Draco able to finish his studies in Hogwarts.
Now that he graduated, he pursues to become a Mind-Healer which comes with difficulties due to his history and his last name but, Draco was determined to pursue the career until he reaches what he is now today. He had a fine home to live, a profession he wants, financially capable, and a healthy relationship with Harry.
Harry Potter. The Boy who Lived and the Hero who defeated the Dark Lord. He still remembered like yesterday how their relationship bloom. It started with a case that Harry was working on in the ministry which needed some help with a Mind-Healer, and he chose Draco to do the task to help him because, Harry somehow trusts him so much not to sabotage his mission which becomes a success in the end. But their interactions do not stop there. Both began visiting each other, slowly opening with each other, and pursuing each other. It was awkward from the start especially to their rival relationship in Hogwarts and many are wary on the relationship between a Gryffindor and a Slytherin. In the end, they become lovers and thankfully, many people were accepting with their relationship.
Harry also knew about Draco’s struggle and anxiety with his profession and his thesis which led what he is doing now. He sometimes wondered how he was able to have such an understanding and supportive boyfriend despite his dark past.
After the 100th time he reviewed his paper, Draco finally settled down, leaning back on his chair. He took a deep breath and glanced outside of the window, seeing the heavy snow slowly falling from the sky.
Draco was currently in a winter cabin that he and Harry rented for the holidays. They decided to take a break away from the wizarding world and enjoy a provincial life in the muggle world. It was a winter cabin nearly excluded from the local town which is perfect incase they want to perform magic, preventing any muggles to witness it. Also, it has a perfect view of the snowy mountains and the icy lake which Harry suggested to hike and skate. Draco suddenly regretting on using the day working on his thesis than spending time with Harry. Draco stood up and began cleaning his desk, not planning to return from work. Today is Christmas, he must give his time to Harry and spent the rest of the day with his lover.
Once he has done, he left his study and check the time, it was already 11:03 in the evening. Harry must be asleep already. Draco sighed; he needs something to do to make up for Harry. Suddenly, he felt a cold breeze which makes him shiver.
The cold temperature suddenly dropped drastically. Winter could often be harsh.
Draco began to rub his hands together in attempt to warm himself and walked his way to the kitchen to get a warm drink. As he approached the kitchen, he heard the clanking of utensils and glasses. Confused, he went to investigate the noise which caught him surprise.
Harry was there, in his winter clothes, working in the kitchen.
“Harry?” Draco called.
Harry looked up and saw Draco. He smiled, “Draco.”
“What are you doing here? Its already late in the evening.” Draco asked as he approached the kitchen isle.
“Oh…I can’t sleep due to the cold temperature. So, I went here to make us a hot drink.” Harry explained as he put out two mugs for the drinks. Draco watched him work. Harry pulled out two sachets of hot chocolate and pour it in the mugs. He turns off the thermos flask and pour the liquid onto the mugs and lastly placed some bits of marshmallows on top of it. He carried both mugs to the isle where Draco was waiting.
Harry gestured Draco to sit on the bar stool which Draco obliged. Harry placed the mugs on the Kitchen isle and sat on the bar stool in front of Draco.
Harry gently smiled, “Here. its hot chocolate. Enjoy yourself.” Draco grabbed the mug and carefully drank it. He sighed, satisfy with the warm and taste of the drink. Draco glanced at Harry who simply enjoy his drink as well in front of him.
He sighed and reached out on Harry’s hand, caressing it gently. “I’m sorry” Draco said as he put down his mug.
Harry looked at him, confused, “What are you apologizing for?”
“We were supposed to be here for the holiday, to enjoy ourselves away from work yet here I am, still working on my thesis even though you keep telling me that its already fine.”
Harry squeezed back Draco’s hand on him, “You don’t need to apologize. I understand why you need to do your thesis. I just wish I could make it easier for you.”
“Harry, what you did for me, and my mother is enough. I cannot wish for more.” Draco stated, “And most of all, you being with me is the greatest gift I could ever had.“
Harry gently laughed, “I could say the same.” he reached out and placed his hand on Draco’s cheek,
“Don’t worry. We still have until New Year’s in this cabin. There is still time for the both of us. A lifetime.”
Draco held Harry’s hand on his cheek and kissed it, “I love you, Harry.”
Harry began to blush, “I love you too, Draco.”
Despite the raging frosty winter outside the cabin, Harry and Draco felt warm with each other.
