Work Text:
“Hey, I have a question,” Doyoung suddenly said. Jaehyun raised his eyes from what he was reading to look at the boy in front of him.
Eyeglasses hanging low on his nose and hair all disheveled from constantly running through it. Jaehyun was holding himself back from fixing the older’s hair.
“Hm?” He answered back, still looking at the boy whose eyes are glued to the book he’s reading.
“Why do you keep hanging out with me?”
“It’s because I like you,” Jaehyun said after a few minutes of thinking.
Doyoung suddenly raised his head to look at the man in front of him, thinking if he should believe what he was saying.
“Wait, you like me?” Doyoung asked after a while of staring at him. Still not believing what he was hearing.
“As in like LIKE me? not in the platonic-i-want-to-be-friends-with-you like me?” he added, emphasizing his words. Jaehyun nodded like it was nothing out of the ordinary — suddenly confessing to Doyoung.
“and for my personality?” he added incredulously.
“I know, I was surprised too,” He said, smiling widely — those damn dimples peeking, teasing him as if it would ease the tension from what he said earlier.
Doyoung glared at his response. Jaehyun wasn’t supposed to be here. He wasn’t supposed to be in front of him, suddenly invading his personal space like they’re friends.
Kim Doyoung has long cemented in his mind that he and Jaehyun could never become friends. They’re not really compatible, per se. He finds the boy too… cheerful .
If Doyoung is calm, collective, and calculative, Jaehyun is chaos personified. Though, Doyoung wouldn't call them enemies, it’s just not quite right in his mind and it’s also too childish to call it that way. But he knows they certainly don’t like each other.
Well, that’s what he thought.
“Why?” he asked. Doyoung thinks he’s staring at him too much.
The boy in front of him shrugs, “What do you mean why? Do you need a reason to like someone?”
The older is still staring at him, waiting for what he’ll say.
“I mean, despite your shit personality—”
“Hey!”
“As I was saying, despite all of those, it’s not really hard to like you,” Jaehyun’s thinking if he should continue talking, because the next words he’ll utter might make him the cringiest person out there.
“You’re very lov—likable. You know, you really make it easy for people to fall for you. Like you should’ve been used to it by now and I don’t really know why you’re still surprised I like you when a shit ton of people tells you they like you too.”
“You’re exaggerating”
“You know I’m not,” Jaehyun said, looking at him as if he told the funniest joke in the world,
“Do you want me to list down all the times I’ve seen you being confessed to?” he added.
Doyoung groaned, he knows Jaehyun’s being serious right now. It’s not that he’s not used to it, it’s more like a question of why’s — like why do people actually have romantic interests in him? Okay, he knows he’s pleasing in the eyes, but he’s also not the easiest person to be with.
“You really don’t have to return my feelings, you know?” Jaehyun said, “It’s not like you’re required to do that. I just said that because I don’t like keeping pent-up feelings when I could easily just tell it to your face and to let you know I don’t actually not-like you,”
“Why are your ears so red?” Jaehyun asked after a while, eyes curved like the crescent moon, both dimples showing up….again.
“Shut up,” the older responded, and rolled his eyes at him.
Doyoung could hear the teasing in Jaehyun’s voice and he just wanted to shove the book he’s reading on his stupid pretty face.
Oh God, he’s so so stupid.
——
“Why are you here?”
It surprised Jaehyun when he saw Doyoung outside of their class, hunched and busy scrolling over his phone. His presence being very striking, especially with how everyone was staring at him while they’re leaving the room.
Doyoung’s the type who makes people look at him twice. Jaehyun sometimes wonders if he could hide him from the rest of the world. He’s too precious and beautiful to be seen by everyone, but everyone also deserves to see how precious and beautiful he is.
Doyoung looked at him and started walking to his side.
“What? Am I not allowed here?” He’s standing too close beside him — looks at him with easy smiles, teasing looks, and their hands almost touching.
“Were you waiting for me?” Jaehyun asked after contemplating if he should just go for it and hold Doyoung’s hand.
“What do you think, Captain Obvious?”
Jaehyun was already expecting his answer, but what surprised him most was how the older initiated the things he was thinking of earlier. He’s currently feeling unhinged by how bold Doyoung’s actions are. Almost feeling faint from how his heart almost dropped just from their hands touching.
“You look stupid,” Doyoung said, still holding his hand. With his other hand cupping both his cheeks, and turning his face to the front, “And watch where you’re going.”
Jaehyun looked at him again, face still surprised, and obviously confused.
Doyoung tsked and acted like he’s going to let his hand go, which prompted Jaehyun to tighten his hold and face his front, but not without missing Doyoung’s blushing face.
—
“Good morning”
“Morning,” Doyoung mumbled, sleep still clear on his face.
Jaehyun stared at Doyoung who still had bags under his eyes; proof that the older did an all-nighter. Still beautiful, nonetheless. They’re currently at their university’s library, where they’re supposed to study together for their upcoming finals.
“Still sleepy?” The older sighed and nodded his head, eyes half closed and a small pout showing.
Jaehyun chuckled and brushed the hair out of the boy’s face, “Aw poor baby,”
Adorable. He can’t help but be charmed by how Doyoung looks right now. He looks so cozy and cuddly that he just wants to take him home and just stay in bed all day.
Jaehyun — feeling brave, clears his throat and held Doyoung’s head, took his glasses off, and gently placed his head on his shoulder so that he could continue his rest, “Sleep for a while, I’ll just wake you up after half an hour,”
Doyoung smiles and hums in content, whispers his appreciation and lets his sleep take off while Jaehyun’s fingers softly brushes through the sleeping boy’s hair.
The way he knows he likes it;
He feels so warm. Kim Doyoung feels so warm. Although Jaehyun feels like melting—a puddle of unexplained emotions, he also feels content like two cold pillows surrounding him in his sleep. He likes it. He likes having Doyoung around.
This is so nice, Jaehyun thinks, wouldn't trade this for the world.
