The Ghost called Molly McGee

Summary:

When Molly jumps through the ghost portal to go save Scratch, her body falls both to the floor, as well as asleep, while her wraith pops out. Ok, that seems fine.

During her brief stay in the Flow of failed Phantoms, however, something happens to it, unbeknownst to her.

Not unbeknownst to Libby, though.

Notes:

I wondered why nobody had made a fic about this concept yet.

Then i realized that it wasn't too long of a story, so i could be the one to do that.
And here i am, committing word crimes again. :)

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Mollies Mortality

Chapter Text

"Geoff! Scratch is in trouble!" Molly shouted at the freshly appeared ghost.

"What! How can i help?"

"Take me to the ghost world."

"I can't bring humans there. Yeah, i don't even think that's possible." Geoff stated, opening a portal regardless. "But i promise, i'm..." he managed to get out, before Molly grabbed him by the nose.

"I am not taking no for an answer!" the girl shouted, then leapt past Geoff and through the portal. Only for her body to go right past it, and it fizzling out. For a terrifying moment, Molly was convinced she would never be able to save her best ghost friend, and Geoff was right about bringing her to the ghost world being impossible.

And then her body fell, while she remained in the air.

"Wheaoo, whoa.. what just happened?" The floating yellow creature asked into the room, shaking her head. Looking down, she saw her body laying motionless on the floor. Well, almost motionless. The chest periodically moved up and down. Good, at least she was still breathing. Still though...

"Well that's creepy." she commented, deadpan.

"Buuut, since i'm not technically a human, youcantakemetotheghostworldright?" The yellow ghost that was Molly asked Geoff.

"I mean, i suppose?" Geoff conceded.

"Yusss, technicalities!" Molly said, raising her fists in the air.

"I'll keep an eye on yo... your body, until you get back." Libby promised.

"Thanks Libby. Now let's go save Scratch!" And with that, the two ghosts were off.

Leaving Libby behind to watch over her best friend's body. "Sooo, i guess you're asleep?" Libby asked the Molly-body, feeling pretty stupid afterward.

"I don't know why i'm asking, as if you could answer."

Minutes went by, and nothing happened, aside from Libby turning Molly's body around into a comfortable sleeping position, listening to her bodies soft breathing, and watching the seconds tick by on the clock. Then, after 15 minutes, Libby felt something change, but couldn't quite put her finger on it.

Molly still laid on the cushions. The clock was still ticking, the only sound in the entire room.

Wait, the only sound?!

Libby came closer to Molly's face. She... "She isn't breathing anymore! Oh god what do i do?" Libby panicked. Quickly, she checked her friend's heartbeat. Or tried to, she couldn't find it.

Oh god oh god oh god...! Remember. You read that book about first aid. What do you do when someone has stopped breathing? Chest compressions. Right. Her own heart hammering at top speed, Libby set out to bring back her friend..'s body. She really hoped it would work, given the ghostly circumstances. Libby folded both her hands over one another, and laid them on Molly's chest.

120 bpm. To the tune of 'staying alive', the thing she wants Molly to do, with all of her heart.

She began harshly thrusting her hands into Molly's rib-cage, trying to sing the song to keep the rhythm, but choking up, unable to vocalize a single lyric. Tears were streaming down her face, and while her arms and back were hard at work, only one thought echoed in her mind: 'please please please please please please please...'

About 40 seconds into Libby doing chest compressions on her friend, she heard the sound of another ghost portal opening.

"Wooooh!" Molly exclaims happily, before taking a look into her room.

Only to see Libby, hands on her body's chest, tears and snot dripping from her face, turn her head to look up at her.

"chhh.." the jewish girl begins, throat still too tight to speak, but forcing herself to do so anyway. "Quick, get back in your body," she rasps out.

The yellow ghost's eyes widen, she simply floats on the spot for a couple seconds, too shocked to move.

"NOW!" Libby screams at her, voice breaking horribly.

Shaken out of her stupor, Molly obeys immediately, merging back with her body.

The first thing she does is take a deep breath. The second is choking on said breath. The third is feeling her heart beat start back up, and accelerating to a stampede.

For a minute or two, all Molly can do is lay on the floor and greedily inhale, like, all the air. Her breath is a rapid staccato of inhales and exhales. After a while, she can feel her limbs go pins and needles, tingling as if tv static was overtaking them.

"Oh man, what happe..?" she begins, only to once again be denied air privileges, only this time by the crushing hug her best friend envelops her in.

Thankfully the air deprivation is much shorter this time, as Libby soon loosens up, but still keeps hugging Molly. The freshly un-ghostified girl can feel her shoulder wetting from the tears and snot, but that's the least of her concerns right now.

Shakily, Libby explains: "You were just sleeping Molly, so i stopped paying attention after a while. And then about a minute before you came back, i felt like something was off. I didn't notice that you weren't breathing anymore for at least 20 seconds, and if you.. if i couldn't.. if you hadn't come back, i..."

"Hey." Molly softly murmurs into Libby's shoulder.

"It's ok.

I'm here.

I'm alive." she states, the brief orange glint in her eyes hidden from anyone's sight.
